I was working really hard at rewriting a piece for our school magazine, and the editors didn't really think it was working out. They told me to take a break from it, and I think that really helped me when I finally got back to it. Good luck with your writing, and don't worry: you will definitely be up and running soon!

message 204: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) :D I'm definitely up and running now! And thanks for the encouragement Kritika, it really helps. And plus, taking a break, and thinking about the story and how to make it work out really works. I did that for the past week, and now I've been rewriting an entire chapter for the past hour. I'm almost done, and really excited, because I'm halfway done with editing my book! Good luck on your writing as well!

message 205: by Kritika (new)

Kritika (spidersilksnowflakes) | 465 comments Thanks!
Good job on editing half your book. I think editing is far harder than actually writing, because when you look back, there are so many ways to fix the same problem. I can never tell which way to pick, and I end up spending hours debating how I should change that part of the story.

message 206: by Malin (new)

Malin (tusenord) I'm exactly the same, Kritika! And sometimes, I keep using the wrong way and have to start anew. Which isn't fun when it's a novel I'm editing.

message 207: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) I totally agree! And the funniest part is, the first half of my book is 10 times better than the second half. I'm afraid I'm going to be deleting a lot of chapters and rewriting them all

Brigid ✩ | 814 comments Hello! I am bad at catching up on people's topics and everything … I feel like I've fallen totally behind. What's up Annie? ^_^

message 211: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) coolio I'll check it out!

This week at my school is freedom week, and we don't have any more days off of school until May 5, after that it's Spring Break in April.

message 212: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 814 comments Same here. No school this week … and then we don't have any days off until April. O_O eeeek.

message 213: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) That sucks. But we've got Spring Break to look forward to! Hopefully it won't be like last years. The first day of Spring Break it was perfectly normal, and really warm. But then it snowed for the next three days, and rained on Friday. All day. Some Spring Break, it should have been called winter break.

message 214: by Kritika (new)

Kritika (spidersilksnowflakes) | 465 comments Yuck, what an awful spring break! I hope this year turns out better. I hate it when there's awful weather during a break; it just takes away the fun of having no school.

message 215: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) No kidding! And it's been snowing for the past 3 hours. I'm not very happy.

message 216: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) For the past week:

Editing Page Count: 17 pages

Total Word Count: 21,872 words
Total Edited Page Count: 126 pages
Total Rewriting Count: 20 pages, 10,136 words

So . . . I'm in the hole 900 words. Which I'll be making up soon enough.

Editing. Sucks.

message 217: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) I must be desperate to be done with editing if I'm searching for agents again . . .

message 218: by Malin (new)

Malin (tusenord) How much left to edit?

message 219: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) about 15 chapters.

message 220: by Malin (new)

message 223: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) 1,100 words in the hole . . .

message 224: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) 1,500 words in the hole. If I get done editing this chapter today, and start rewriting the next one, I should be able to get caught up. :D

message 225: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) Writing Word Count: 3,130 words (I'm no longer in the hole!)
Editing Page Count: 5 pages

Total Word Count: 25,002 words
Total Edited Page Count: 131 pages
Total Rewriting Count: 25 pages, 13,066 words

Must I say how much I hate/love rewriting and editing?

message 226: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) For the next 3 weeks, I'm going to be on the "down low". I've got to prepare myself for Drill/Dance Company/ Dance 3 auditions, so my mom's not going to let me get on the laptop to write. *sigh* So, I'll have to do my best to write on a piece of paper.

Also, just because I won't exactly have time to write 200 words each day these next 3 weeks, I'm going to bring my goal down to 100. After that, my writing will resume to normal. :D

message 227: by Callie (new)

Editing Page Count: 3 pages

Total Word Count: 26,061 words

*sigh* editing sucks.

message 228: by Kritika (new)

Kritika (spidersilksnowflakes) | 465 comments Editing is awful when you're doing it, but when you're done editing a few pages, you feel so much more accomplished than when you finish writing the same amount. At least, that's how I see it.

Callie (neverlandcallie) Writing Word Count: 1,321
Editing Page Count: 3 pages

I've never gone so slow with editing! Kritika, it is definitely true. I do feel much more accomplished.

Callie (neverlandcallie) I've been writing, I REALLY HAVE! And I am totally on a roll with it, it's just I haven't done very much this past week. One, well, because I actually have a life now. Ha ha.

So technically, this word count right here is over the total of 3 days. . . .

Editing Page Count: 1 page

Callie (neverlandcallie) Don't delete writing when you're RE-writing. Because when you take a break for over a week, you forget what you were going to Re-write. It's a good thing I've backed up the story several times :D

I learned that the hard way...
I completely changed part of a short story after it was edited by a few people. The next time I got it edited, I was told that the original version was better, and that I could keep some elements of the rewrite. Unfortunately, I had saved the new one over the old one, and didn't remember the old version. Luckily I had a printed copy of the old one, but it was still a pain to have to re-type the whole thing.

message 234: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) yeah, I can see how that would be a pain in the butt :D

message 235: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) I wrote stuff last night, but it's the beginning of a book, and i'm writing the whole thing by hand . . . . so I don't know if I really want to transfer it to the computer and figure out how many words it is.

Callie (neverlandcallie) I'm so stupid . . . I forgot New Moon was going to be released tonight! Woooooow. So now, I'm going to figure out how much the Blu-ray version's going to be, and then I'm going to go get it at MIDNIGHT! Wow, I feel like quite the idiot lately. Anyways, this will be an amazing Late birthday present. It should have been released last friday night. :D

Callie (neverlandcallie) My plan for Spring Break? Break down my story, tear it apart bit by bit! Disect the entire thing, then rebuild from the bottom up. Hopefully by the end, things will begin to work, and be much, much, better than its original form.

message 244: by Kritika (new)

Kritika (spidersilksnowflakes) | 465 comments Oh my, good luck with that! I bet you will feel very accomplished once your story evolves. I don't think I'll be doing any writing or editing over spring break myself...I'll be on a band tour to Costa Rica!

So far behind *eyes glaze over from 108 unread posts* but good work! I'm glad you've gotten over your slump and you seem to be doing much better on the word counts. See, things do work out!

Keep up the good work and I hope you are happy once you rebuild your story. I had to do that with some of Soulfire, and I'm really happy with the results. So take it from me- if done right, it's worth it.

XOXO, Tink *_*

message 246: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) Thank you Tink :D lol Eventually I will go to some movie this week with my friends, but. . . .I'm still not so sure about it.

message 249: by Kritika (new)

Kritika (spidersilksnowflakes) | 465 comments Oh no! I HATE writer's block and unfinished ideas and great ideas that lead to nothing and all the other things that kill stories before they start.
Grab a flashlight and dust off the cobwebs in your head and FIND YOUR VIBE! :)
