The Mortal Instruments is better written and far more interesting and TMI has JACE so there is no competition....TMI ALL THE WAY

Nothing against Twilight because I enjoyed the books a lot, but I would hardly call Edward and Bella's relationship healthy. Edward was controlling, obsessive. He stalked her and watched her while she slept at night. Creepy. And Bella was so consumed by him, that she couldn't function when he left. And was willing to put herself into dangerous and potentially life threatening situations just so she could see some imaginary version of him. This isn't what I'd call a healthy relationship--not that Jace and Clary are that much better. They've definitely had some disturbing moments. Lol.
I think Mortal Instruments is better written, more complicated and I do love it, but I still like Twilight better. Probably because MI has a darker, intense feel to it and there are times when I almost can't bring myself to read it because I'm afraid of what is going to happen next. Maybe down the road I'll like MI better but for now....
That's tricky. They are both written very well and have totally different story lines. I don't think you can compare them but if I was forced it would have to be The Mortal Instruments as there is a lot more going on.
It is actually ludicrous to compare these two series. They have nothing in common. Although I loved it Twilight is really just a romance. The Mortal Instruments is a complicated involved battle of magical beings for good and evil. The Harry Potter series would be a better comparison to The Mortal Instruments although it is still very different. Clary is certainly no Harry.

For all of you referring to Edward as "Eddie" you obviously didn't connect with the books anyways. The two authors shouldn't be compared, and neither should the books. Completely different types of fiction. I loved Twilight. I love MI. I love them both for completely different reasons. WE as readers need to get out of this habit of comparing every single book. If every author had the same writing style, reading would be boring.

TWILIGHT IS SO DIFFERENT FROM MORTAL INSTRUMENTS!!!! I LOVE BOTH SERIES BUT THEY CAN'T EASILY BE COMPARED, AT LEAST THE TWILIGHT SAGA WAS TURNED INTO 5 MOVIES!

Completely different types of..."Great opinion, however, most romance novels/series have the same format...i.e. the guys is super handsome, ridiculously tall, with a great body, he's the best fighter/protector, and might be rough around the edges but he has a good heart--the girl is beautiful (but she doesn't know it), she's a virgin, they're attracted to one another, lots of sexual tension; she becomes the victim of (fill in the blank) and only he can save her...blah, blah, blah. Sounds familiar? You can read any romance novel and the plot will run along these lines.
Generally most romance story lines are similar--I think most people look at the writer's style/skill.

Compared to the first three MI books: Twilight is worse! But the last three...I honestly don't know. A tie, maybe?
Mortal Instruments gets my vote because it is so much better written! Plus the characters in MI had a certain depth to them that Twilight's didn't.

definitely Twilight! Clary totally ruined MI for me she made it unbearable to read but considering that I have to finish stories that I've started it was like torture reading the entire series

ugh. this isn't even a fair question. Mortal Instruments. MI. MI. MI!!!Twilight was a book series you read when you have absolutely nothing better to do, Mortal Instruments is the series you ignore your family for on holidays and get yelled at because you JUST CAN'T PUT IT DOWN. Because if you don't find out what happens to Jace & Clary you will not be able to move on with your life.
I don't understand why people compare books when every novel/series/trilogy is different and unique. The Mortal Instruments is most definitely original. Twilight is original also. Both series have varying plots and storylines, so why compare them?
i loved both... i found the 3rd book of TMI really hard to get in to though and it took me ages to read :/ haven't read the newest one yet... where as twilight i flew through them easily and didnt want to put them down. i think there's alot more to TMI which is why its more appealing? as twilight it just basically about the "epic" love between bella and edward :)

I am reading City of Fallen Angels now--Book 4 and this is even better than the others by far. I LOVE this Series SO MUCH.
