I have the Gertrude Bell book as well. I started it last year but ending up putting it down for reasons I don't remember. What motivated me to read it was a trip to the Maparium in Boston. The Maparium is part of the Christian Science Complex and is a giant globe of the world in 1935 that you actually walk through. One of the things I noticed was that the middle east was so very different than it is now, fewer countries. It really piqued my interest. I'll have to get that book out and put it on my 2013 reading pile. If you ever get a chance the Maparium is a really neat stop and the tour is only about 15 min. The center has all these really neat quotes from Mary Baker Eddy displayed in different ways.

It may be because it's a fascinating story ... then gets bogged in details ... then it's fascinating ... then it's bogged down ... then it's fascinating ... then it's bogged down....

In order to read more than one at a time (which I'm always doing), I have to be sure the stories are very different from each other. I'm a mood reader, so sometimes there are up to 5 in process, sometimes just one.

I always listen to one book on audio for my commute and have one going on my kindle. I have to make sure the stories are very different as occasionally, especially when tired, I have confused the story lines in my mind!
