Oh, I completely get the difference!

We the Animals becomes a more difficult read as it goes on so if you weren't comfortable with the material at the halfway point, you probably made the right choice in putting it aside.

The Dexter series is great. I loved the first one, but thought that the second one was average. I do own the 3rd and would really like to get it to a some point. Have you watched the TV series at all?

message 1452: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (vicki_c) I've watched some of the show. My husband is a fan, but I watch sporadically. It's pretty good though.

Sera | 1325 comments I don't get Showtime, but they ran the first season on CBS a couple of years ago. I liked the show a lot, but I have trouble with watching violence so the network (scrubbed) version was better for me. Unfortunately, they never ran it on CBS after that first season.

Cathy | 482 comments I just started In the Blood (A Genealogical Crime Mystery #1) by Steve Robinson on my kindle. The second mystery entitled "To the Grave" was practically nothing on Amazon and this one was reasonable, too. They both look pretty good.

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments Two of my wait listed books became available today. I doubt I'll get through them both in the two weeks I get them for, but I'll give it the old college try!

The Impeachment of Abraham Lincoln by Stephen L. Carter

The Absolutist by John Boyne

Victoria (vicki_c) I just started The Orphan Master's Son by Adam Johnson . I didn't think I was interested, but it seemed like all my friends were reading it! And it was available at the library (well through a wait list). So I'm diving in.

Sera | 1325 comments I just started Family Happiness Family Happiness by Laurie Colwin . It's written from a 70s, feminist perspective. It's decent so far, and I can feel the suffocation and loneliness of the main character, Polly.

I jus picked this one up at a library so keep me posted.

Laurie (laurielh) | 93 comments Picked up 2 books from the library -- can't decide which to read first: the novel The Absolutionist or the biography Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness. I'll probably end up starting both and reading snatches intermittently unless one proves to be a book I can't put down. :)

message 1488: by LynnB (new)

LynnB Haven't posted my books in a bit, but I'm finishing up Quiet The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain and Emma by Jane Austen ; I'm a bit into Afterwards A Novel by Rosamund Lupton . I'll be starting Wild From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed tonight.

I can't say I am a big Western fan, but this book was the first book I read this year and I was not disappointed. I really liked it and hope you enjoy it, too.

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments It looks like a lot of good books have been read during my absence. I'll be watching for reviews of The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt . I have it downloaded on my Nook and need a nudge to open it up.

I'm currently reading The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff . It is an upcoming read for two of my face to face book clubs. It is very compelling.

I'm also reading Unlimited How to Build an Exceptional Life by Jillian Michaels . I'm finding it surprisingly well-written and motivating. Jillian Michaels is not just a personal fitness trainer; she also delivers a powerful message on building character and a satisfying life.

I actually have Unlimited How to Build an Exceptional Life by Jillian Michaels on my Amazon Wishlist. It looked great when I had read about it, and I am glad to see that it doesn't disappoint.

message 1492: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments Sera, I came across Unlimited: How to Build an Exceptional Life while browsing my library e-book collection. It sounded good, but I didn't have high expectations, because so many self-help books regurgitate the same old "positive attitude" platitudes. Michaels voice, her self-help assessments, and combination of attitude and action have really resonated with me at critical juncture in my life. I will probably purchase a hard copy of this so I can refer back to it.

I have been plagued lately with a similar issue, getting too many downloadable library books at the same time. I can't renew them, and I can hardly finish anything in 2 weeks anymore. I was also reading and enjoying The Absolutionist, but then my turn for Gone Girl came up, so I've shifted to that one. I feel like I have book ADD lately.

Pat, I downloaded Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn yesterday, and can't wait to start it. It also received a Bookmarks Selection in the Sept/Oct 2012 issue.
