My book group read this a couple years ago. I was the only person in the group that didn't love it.

Becky (beckymurr) started A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway

Victoria (vicki_c) I finally started Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins - trying to catch up with the rest of my family who have read all 3. It's almost as engaging as the first one to me. Actually, now that I've gotten to a particular event (sorry, no spoilers here) - I'd probably say it's just as engaging. I think Suzanne Collins is a very good story teller.

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments Funny that Victoria just started Catching Fire - I just started The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins as a quickie in between book group books. I'm hoping to finish before the movie comes out so I can decide if I want to see it.

I have a small issue already - the name of the DA. I had a childhood friend with the same spelling, but pronounced very differently.

All life's problems should be this complex!

message 1308: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (vicki_c) Well now I started Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins - I had to see what would happen next (and yes I finished Catching Fire).

message 1312: by Victoria (last edited Mar 19, 2012 04:59AM) (new)

Victoria (vicki_c) I have started Three Seconds (Grens & Sundkvist #5) by Anders Roslund , mainly because at some point I had added it to my "to read" list - wasn't there a Bookmarks article about the Swedish crime authors - and it was available as an ebook through my library. I have only read about 3 pages so far! Still reading Mockingjay at the same time though and finished Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay in the meantime when it was available from my library hold list (not as good as the show, by the way).

message 1313: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I'm currently reading Nanjing Requiem A Novel by Ha Jin , Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle .

The author decided to identify the main character's lover as Mr. Fox. Did anyone else who read the book find that odd?

Just finished Hunger Games; want to read Catching Fire but thought I'd better polish something off that has been lingering on the shelf for a while. Great writing style, so far . . .

I must have closed right over it. Love the writer, loved the book though. What are your thoughts on MR. Fox?

So far I don't really like Mr. Fox and I really wish Marina would get some backbone but I am enjoying the book. Narrator is excellent.

Sera | 1325 comments I started Defending Jacob A Novel by William Landay today.

message 1330: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments I'm also reading Defending Jacob A Novel by William Landay . I started last week, but due to a dental procedure, an ensuing infection, lots of pain, and a foggy head from meds, I had to put it down. I was too miserable to read. Nothing worse than being stuck in the house for a week and not feeling good enough to read. Anyway, I'm ready to curl up with it tonight. It's a page turner!

I'm also reading Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward . I don't have much time left before it disappears off my Nook - it's a library loaner.

I'm listening to Beautiful Boy A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction by David Sheff . I downloaded it to my Ipod so I'd have something to keep my mind occupied during my 2 -3 hour dental work. The problem was I couldn't always hear it over the equipment and I was in no position to adjust the volume. I also tried listening during my recovery, but often fell asleep, woke up, fell asleep, woke up......I have no idea how much I missed. I re-listened to portions of it, and am almost finished.

message 1336: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 482 comments I came across an interesting historical fiction read (WWII) with a musical-theme called The Secret Keeper by Julie Thomas presently free on my Kindle. I then downloaded Mozart's Wife by Juliet Waldron for $2.99. Both look like good "musical" reads. I have started the latter one and it reads quickly and is quite interesting.

message 1339: by Betsy (new)

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments Do you find that e-books get cheaper when the paperback comes out? I have my eye on 11/23/63 and Defending Jacob but they seem a little pricey at $13 and $15.

message 1340: by Sera (new)

Sera | 1325 comments Betsy wrote: "Do you find that e-books get cheaper when the paperback comes out? I have my eye on 11/23/63 and Defending Jacob but they seem a little pricey at $13 and $15."

Oftentimes they come down to $9.99. The problem is that if a hardcover is selling, it could take a long time for them to come out in paperback (the Larsson trilogy and Unbroken both come to mind).

I ended up buying 11/22/63 at 65% off in hardback (40% off + 15% off coupon) and borrowing Defending Jacob from the library. Some books I just have to get :)

message 1341: by Sera (new)

Sera | 1325 comments I'm going to start We the Animals by Justin Torres tonight. It's due back to the library on Wednesday and I can't renew it anymore - glad that it's short :)

message 1346: by Patricia (new)

Patricia O'Donnell-Gibson (goodreadscomPatricia_Gibson) | 8 comments I am reading Hannah Coulter by Wendell Berry. It was recommended in Bookmarks Magazine by a reader. I like it so far. However, the book is mostly narration - very little dialogue - and at times the writing feels like it needs a lift. I will finish it though

message 1347: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 482 comments I started King of the Badgers by Philip Hensher on a friend's recommendation. I am enjoying the setting and unfolding story.
