I was literally 2 seconds away from junking it and I thought, "why don't I plug this into another outlet....maybe the outlet has gone bad."

So things like this do happen to other people.

Throwing out two bras, a t-shirt, and an old purse today.

Félix (habitseven) Out in the street?

Well someone can use them! If not the homeless ladies, perhaps a nesting squirrel!

What do you do to your hard drives? Are the laptops going to charity, or in the garbage?

I have 49 pairs of underwear in the rotation. This doesn't count the thongs which I won't wear. About 5 of those probably.

message 262: by Jaye (new)

Jaye | 180 comments I find it much easier to let go of things when they go to a good cause.

The other day I donated a Fenton vase, an art glass vase, a 1950 Moonbeam deco clock and a few other items to a silent auction for a low-cost cat spay clinic.

I do this every year. My problem is that I could give them more but I just can't seem to get organized enough to get the stuff together in time. I end up rushing at the end and know there is more I can give but I just run out of time !

I need someone to push me along. Like a life coach or something.

I don't clutter...other than the craft room. Mr. Amy is always trying to throw things away. If it isn't something important to me, or something handed down to me, eventually I give in (usually). I know it's better to let the junk go.

Without him, I expect I would clutter plenty.

Time to declutter the desk.

That made me take a good look at my desk.

eeeesh.

I'm down to about 15 pairs of underwear. Nice, new ones that all fit well. Love it.

Lobstergirl | 24781 comments Mod
It takes me 20 minutes to fold all my underwear after doing laundry. Just the underwear. Then I stack them in fives.

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Then you go wash your hands for 20 minutes with steel wool and open and shut the bedroom door four times before you can leave the room.

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments No more work for this year, I'm planning a big house de-clutter before my in-laws arrive. I just had our old dead car picked up (and they gave me 100 bucks for it!).

evie (ecie) | 4439 comments I have packed away the Christmas trimmings. The tree stands undecorated and awaits mr evie's attention. It is always amusing watching him try to cram those branches inside the skinny box.

I've got a lot of useful things. Luckily, the big brother/big sister program sends a truck around at least once a month for donations.

The DVD player which I never use got put into a closet today. Next up: the TV. I'm sorely tempted just to throw the fucker in the dumpster, but technically it does still work. It's really old, but it "works."

message 284: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments They have recycling programs for old tvs. I felt better getting rid of my old 'still working' tv when I found out they're not very environmentally friendly.

message 285: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments The influx of "stuff" over the holidays set back my decluttering process. This was especially evident in the kitchen, where mugs from well-meaning co-workers and gift baskets delivered from such entities as Harry & David have taken up residence on the counters and in the fridge.

At least I can gaze at this pristine NEW PAGE and know there is hope for an end to clutter in 2013.

Got rid of an old computer tower and a bag at the bottom of a closet filled with tights, Spanx, and exercise shorts. I rescued one Spanx that was still in good condition.

message 288: by Jaye (new)

Jaye | 180 comments The other day I took a big bag of books to the library for the sale. My library has a corner set up with books for sale all the time. The big sale is only once a year.
I also took in a pile of old Organic Gardening magazines for the magazine trade bin.
(I only bought 2 books from the sale corner.)

Threw out an old duffel bag today. In one of the pockets, a new pantyliner and some fresh packets of sugar. SCORE!

It's been a really long time since I've decluttered. I need to get rid of about 5 winter coats so I have more room in the hall closet.

Old financial files....ugh. I kept intending to burn them in the fireplace last winter but I never got around to it. Shredding takes forever.

message 291: by CD (new)

CD | 1577 comments I have two shredders.

Carol | 1678 comments We have a burn barrel out here in the sticks. I limited my summer wardrobe and now need to part with the excess.

message 294: by evie (last edited Aug 17, 2017 06:08PM) (new)

evie (ecie) | 4439 comments I decided to tackle my decluttering tasks by obliterating one problem area per weekend.

Today I finally tackled the bottom section of my wardrobe. First on the list was washing a jacket that my cat pulled down and then used as a bed . I have been putting that one on the back burner. Old shoes were thrown in the bin. Next is sorting papers in an attache case. I think it contains notes from an out-placement course I did in 2015.

Last weekend I tackled my office. My desk drawer was overflowing with receipts and assorted papers so I culled that stuff. My files are now orderly and labelled and my stationery station is neat as a pin.

Cleaning the top of the kitchen cupboards, and the unused objects that reside there is now pending. It is a dark and evil looking place.

I haven't decluttered lately but I'm having my kitchen/porch window reglazed and repainted which it desperately needed.

message 296: by Carol (new)

Carol | 1678 comments Last year I got new office furniture at work and downsized my file cabinet. Now I'm going through the just in case files from that purge. I'm letting go of old certificates and such.

message 297: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments Today, I've been framing photos I've had lying around for a while. What to do with photos that mean something to you when you're running out of wall space?

message 298: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments I've been sorting out all the paper statements and receipts and income tax stuff that I no longer need. Years' worth of clutter. Now I have a trash bag full of them. Too many to shred. I'm wondering if I can just fill the bag with water and let it sit until everything is a slurry.
