Oh Cynthia, it's so dry I would probably start a conflagration.

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments I don't know about Chicago but here in Story County we are under a burn ban.

Yesterday I threw out an old pair of winter boots, a random metal container, a Martha Stewart Living, a Vanity Fair, the box my microwave came in (that felt good, the fucker was huge), and a chipped bowl.

Jim | 6484 comments We have a burn ban here also Cynthia. Heat index of 109°.

You have to keep those.

Sucks to be us, Jim.

Jim | 6484 comments This too shall pass Cynthia.

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments I need to go purchase a wading pool and sit in it with Carl the dog. He's miserable, too. We'll have ourselves a pity party and drink lemonade.

Yes! I'm so motivated. Tell us every thing you throw out.

Me too, Bun. My house is starting to look like a Collyer Mansion.

Think of an open drawer with clothes hanging out . When the clothes fall on the floor either leave them there or shove them back in the drawer. Don't bother folding anything neatly, it's only going to get messed again. What doesn't fit in the drawers can be rolled up and put in the bottom of the wardrobe. Don't forget to complain when an article of clothing is "missing."

I couldn't manage any decluttering today. Too fucking hot.

I sometimes tell her I have given it to some poor teenager who only had a couple of outfits from K-Mart to her name.

Cynthia! Be nice!

Jammies BunWat wrote: "I need to join this thread. I really need to declutter."

Two very large bags of clothes, 1 working ink-jet printer, 1 working mini-tape-player and two boxes of assorted household linens went to Goodwill!

message 122: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments I have an ink jet printer to leave on the curb. Should I replace it with another ink jet or a laser printer?? This one (ink jet by Dell) lasted about 12 years!

message 123: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments You are making progress.

message 124: by evie (new)

evie (ecie) | 4437 comments I've been thinking about the kitchen, and what might be in the depths of my grocery cupboard. The "plastic stuff" cupboard is a real pain too. Everything tumbles out when I'm searching for something.

I also have a medicine cupboard that is a mess. I know there is some yucky stuff in there.
Yep, I think this will be my next decluttering.

Jammies Cynthia wrote: "I have an ink jet printer to leave on the curb. Should I replace it with another ink jet or a laser printer?? This one (ink jet by Dell) lasted about 12 years!"

Technically, you should either take it to a hazardous waste disposal or donate it to Goodwill if it still works.

message 126: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Thanks, Sis! It works and has plenty of ink, so I will haul it to Goodwill. It's just prone to jamming up at inopportune moments.

message 127: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Anytime, SisterCyn! Were your ears burning when I quoted you to my brother earlier today? ;)

message 128: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments This past week we got rid of a twin size bed, a queen size head board, foot board, frame along with a dresser and mirror and an armoire, a sofa, loveseat, side chair and a recliner. We have four boxes and five bags of stuff to take to Goodwill this week. We have considerably more room in our house now.

message 131: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments We had a fire in Ames that displaced 100 people. Tomorrow a nice man (Grad student in Pol Sci/Econ) will collect my mattress/box spring/frame and 2 Papasan chairs and misc. kitchen stuff, toaster, measuring cup, cutting boards. Can't wait to unload this.

message 133: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Hooray for us! We are decluttering and I am helping some nice man start over after a horrible fire. I feel good. Thanks for the shout-out Miss Evie!

"It's all fun and games..." :D

message 135: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments My apartment fire victim turned out to be such a lovely man. He's a grad student in Political Science and Economics, from Nairobi Kenya. He kept saying "I am so grateful. I am so lucky." and he took the mattress/box spring/frame and two big comfy Papasan chairs AND a bunch of pantry/kitchen items. Hooray! He's got a bed and I have my guest room uncluttered. Double win.

message 136: by Jammies (new)

Jammies SisterCyn, that is just amazing and the best feeling for you both!

What does that mean--both senses of the word. Is a mensch a male necessarily, because I thought it was male or female. Some Jew out there--help a white girl out!

message 149: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I will be moving in a month and am planning on taking this as an opportunity to do some decluttering and finally getting those books I wanted to donate out of my house.

message 150: by [deleted user] (new)

Moving is the best opportunity for decluttering Janine. It forces you into a decutter discipline, I recommend a move every 5 years. That way you done accumulate too much before the next move. My last move was after 12 years ( and two children) OMG the declutter was way over due!
