I hope you have/had fun in Times Square, Jenn, and that everything is going alright with the baby/wedding Cici, and that Jen is doing okay! *wipes forehead* I really should stay active here! I miss so much!

Achilles is a little different, but I get kids with odd names all the time at school . . . Sebby, Guisseppe, Shinistaj, Mahboob (try saying that in front of a group without wanting to giggle!) - honestly all kinds of names. But congrats on a boy. I think that since you didn't get the girl name you wanted, you should get the boy name you do want. Just sayin'.

This will be my last post for about 2 weeks - I am off to Germany, Lichtenstein, Austria, and Switzerland with 30 students from my high school and 2 other chaperones. So I will post in a couple of weeks and I will think of you all, often (probably in the middle of the night when I can't sleep for the nightmares I always have of losing one student in Europe and having to tell her mother that I lost her!!!). I take with me The Help (I am halfway done) and my kindle which has the Passage, Sandstorm, and Pirate Latitudes on it.

Back from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It was so hot! And there is no air conditioning there, they are green countries (ecologically minded) and usually they do not have temperatures like that at those elevations. I saw a lot and learned a lot (I try not to learn too much on vacation, but I could not help myself), it's always interesting to see world events from a different point of view. Here's a tally of interesting events:
One student swam into the wall at the Olympic Stadium in Munich, receiving a nasty scrape on both the bridge of his nose and upper lip.
Another student had diahrrea for 3 days.
Yet another student climbed a path up a mountain to a castle and got lost coming down, even though there was only one path and it was very well marked. Duh.
In Salzburg, Austria I vistited the Mirabel Gardens where Julie Andrews filmed the "Doe a deer, a female deer" song from The Sound of Music. Some of us die-hard fans even recreated the dance on the fountain edge.
It was hot, but fun. A great experience, and German food rocks. Schnitzel is a great meal, and spaetzle makes me want to bathe in butter and cheese.
Glad you guys were active, anyone heard from Jessica lately?

Haven't really heard much from anyone on here lately..
Are you guys set on Brady now? I like that name. Very masculine and tough-sounding. Is Achilles officially out of the running?

Haven't heard from you all in so long, are you all ok? I have been very busy with my summer job (I work at a small ceramics studio and boy have we been busy these last 2 weeks!) and haven't had much time to read - when I am home I just want to vedge out and try to sleep. It has been very hot and humid here - not like New Orleans, but for us it has been downright oppressive at times. It makes it hard to sleep.
Cici, how are you doing? I think about you often, wondering if you are able to get comfortable with the weather the way it is. Hugs and kisses(in a totally non-creepy way).

As for reading, I am just about done reading Teeth. I am milking it cause I love the book so much I don't want it to end...ever. It's so exciting and I've learned a lot of interesting facts that are within the story as well. This book is one heck of a great conversation piece and I highly recommend it. Within all the action/adventure it does have the love/relationship side to it as well. Timothy James Dean worked his brain off on this title.
Well I'll talk at ya all later...have a great day :o)

This summer has been pretty fun! Next weekend we will be going up north again to play on the water and I'm definetly looking forward to it!
I've been keeping cool, either indoors in the air or finding someway to water, lol.
We went to a wave pool yesterday and it was so much fun, they even had a relaxing "lazy river" and a huge splash zone for the kids to play in.
I miss you all, no one really comes on here much anymore, everyone must really be enjoying their summer!!! :)

We make, create, and teach. We do not make molds, but we cast them. I am mostly in charge of doing the painting/creating custom orders and store samples as well as a fair share of the teaching. I have so many orders for finished pieces, I don't hardly know what to do! Just plow through them and hope I catch up before I have to go back to teaching in September.

We used to go to this place in Shelby Township called Four Bears Waterpark - I used to work for a summer camp for homeless kids and we would take the kids there for their last field trip - they had such a blast - there were bumper boats, paddle boats, a big pool with a water slide - the kids (ok, me too) had a blast! They closed 5 or 6 years ago.
But I think there is a place over in Muskegon area with a great water park. Right now I have to settle for a trip to Metro Beach (a Metropark beach on Lake St. Clair) or a trip to my bathtub. Cici, have you been to Metro Beach lately?

I just might give this a try. Sounds like fun. It's supposed to be hot again next week, so maybe my nieces would like to go be obnoxious at the water park!

There is a third generation kindle coming out on August 27 - I am really jealous because I bought kindle 2 for myself for Christmas, and although I love it I always like to have the latest gadgets! I will have to wait for kindle 4, though, because I just don't have the budget. Waaaaahhhh! Thanks for listening.

I have been tossing around the idea of getting a Kindle.. I will have to think about it some more. Any thoughts?

My advise is to shop around and don't get this so you stop buying regular books, use this as a way to decide what books you want to own for future reading and rereading. I love my hardcovers and paperbacks as well and have had a hard time thinking about switching over but for economical reasons it does work and I would get to read more books this way.

For now, I use "Paperback Swap" and that has been working out for me.

I shopped around a lot and I preferred the Kindle because there were many more selections than for the Nook. I also was able to get it at for less than the Nook. The books are 9.99, so in the long run, for hardcovers it is cheaper, however, sometimes at Barnes and Noble I can find a hardcover on the bargain shelf for 5.00, so I will pick that up instead. The reason I bought this was because I was cleaning out my closets last year and was horrified at the number of books cluttering up shelves. I was able to donate some, but all that paper was wasted!! I bought and read the books and they sat in boxes - a horrible waste! I also belong to PaperbackSwap.com for the ones that the school or senior center cannot take, but it was my committment to recycling more and using less that actually persuaded me to make the change.
As for the physical feel of the book in your hands, I thought it might be difficult, too, but it turns out I can enjoy the ereader just as much, it really is the character and the story, not the pages. It's just like when I was in college and PC's first came out. I thought I would never be able to write essays and research papers sitting at a computer instead of physically writing it out on a legal pad and then "typing" it, but I was amazed at how easy it was to switch.
Just my 2 cents . . .

Kindle 2 has 3G for life, and the new one you can get either Wi-Fi or 3G plus Wi-Fi. The only Wi-Fi is cheaper by $50. Kindle 3 is smaller than Kindle 2, but still has the same screen size. There are more fonts and darker fonts (not an issue for me, but maybe for older people??). It's also nice because amazon will keep your ebooks for you, so you can organize them at amazon.com and not take up PC memory. I know my kindle holds over 1500 books, but I only like the ones I am reading or to read to be on it. Go figure. It's the same part of me that hates dusting. Kindle also has text-to-speech for the car - love it this is how I am going to finish The Passage this fall, back and forth to work - does Nook have that? I don't know if Kindle can open PDF files, but it can Word docs so I would think PDF would be enabled too.

Cici - feeling ok? We miss you.
Nobody has posted on The Passage lately, what's the skinny?

What ever you do watch out for that Farmville stuff on Facebook. It could seriously take time away from your reading...oh and Restaurant City is another bad one too.
