I am a TV nut. I think I may be an addict. My new favorite show is on FX and is called Justified. It is based on a character created by Elmore Leonard in a short story he wrote called "Fire in the Hole" and Leonard is a consultant for the show so it stays true to his vision. It is about a US Marshall who goes a litle rogue and gets sent to his former home (Lexington, KY) where he swore he would never return. I really enjoy good cop shows and fine acting and writing. I believe this show combines the three very well and Tim Olyphant (Deadwood) plays the lead.

I am looking forward to the rest of Lost - I hope the end is not stupid - I have 7 years invested here.

Yes :) newly prego.

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I haven't played the House Of The Dead yet, it looks cool though. I love Silent Hill but wouldn't want to get stuck in that town for real...I played that game for such a long time once (the first one) and after going to sleep I dreamt I was in the town wondering around looking for the darn key I needed before I went to sleep, and I found it in the dream. When I woke up, I just followed the path I took in the dream and found the key in the exact same spot...talk about creepy. As for Mario, all those games kick butt. Guitar Hero, I am getting better at. And finally, check out the details for the game called Alan Wake.

wow! you dreamt about that and your dream was right???? you had to have known and not reliezed you saw it, or you just didn't look hard enough there.
tell me about this alan wake, what system is it for?

Congratulations! A true blessing! Now we FOR SURE have to read The Red Tent!

message 109: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Cici, I don't know how the dream thing worked out but I think while awake I just wondered around in the town, up and down every street and alley looking for the last key I needed to get through that door in the house and get to the other side to get to the school. Well, I think all the images and such got like imprinted in my head. Kinda like when you play Tetris for too long and you close your eyes and the blocks keep falling. Well, I looked all over in the dream and finally found the key in the only mail box I hadn't checked while awake. So as soon as I woke up that morning I ran out and followed what I did in the dream and there it was. As for being happy, I was until I entered the school...very creepy. I hate those little baby ghosts that squeak out loud...they make me all jumpy.
As for Alan Wake, I know it is for X-Box 360 but not sure if that's the only system it's for. The story is about a guy named Alan Wake that is a horror novelist that goes on a trip with his wife to a small northwestern town called Bright Falls. Well he gets caught up in this weird Silent Hillish world and has to use the light or flashlights to stay protected from some of the creatures in the game...it's very creepy and having an author as the main character sounds like lots of fun. I read a bit about it and they took about 40 thousand pics all up and down the Washington/Oregon coast for reference stuff. The town Astoria Oregon, where they filmed Goonies has parts of it in it too.

IM GOING TO BE AUNTIE AGAIN (ok, i know shes my cousin, but in my heart cici is my sister) not to mention me and her had our first babies together, and I was there when she delivered, which btw scared the living bejesus out of me! Dont worry, I delivered way faster, the fear made me pop that baby out in under 30 seconds, you have been evicted! lol

message 115: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Wow, I feel like a poop. I wrote all that stuff about the videogame thing and not once said Congrats on the baby to Cici... so congrats :o) So how long are you gonna wait to get your kid hooked on the videogaming :o) Start with Mario of coarse. As for Fear and a 360 they are a must. I played the demo for Fear and, yep I'm a big chicken, it was creepy.
As for Jennifer's little story about the baby eviction LOL very funny story and I see a Robot Chicken or Family Guy episode there somewhere. I wonder if that's how Stewies head got turned into a football hmmm :o)

Cici Steven wrote: "Wow, I feel like a poop. I wrote all that stuff about the videogame thing and not once said Congrats on the baby to Cici... so congrats :o) So how long are you gonna wait to get your kid hooked on ..."

Yes, I really did scare her with my first and she was not looking forward to having her baby, but she was better at having babies than me. And my kids head was perfectly normal, but thats funny.
My son, who is 7 loves video games, it's horrible! I can't believe he'd rather sit inside on a beautiful day than play outside! When I was little I was NEVER inside the house unless it was too late to be out.

message 117: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments It's nice to know you don't have a Stewie Cici cause that kid is pure evil and always trying to kill his mom...not good.
I do understand the video games on the sunny day thing. I never really played video games at all growing up and never had time for them when I lived back in NY. When I was little I was out playing baseball or what ever we could get into, with my friends and I usually had to wait to hear my mother yelling my name from down the block, to come home for dinner. Now that I live way out here in Washington and up in the boonies, it's a slower life style and gaming is kind of a big thing in this area. It's that or bowling and pool. Oh and there is always golf which just leaves me frustrated...it's fun as ever but must be played in a good mood :o)

message 118: by Jess (new)

Jess (jhigg) I FINALLLLYYYYY finished "A Thousand Splendid Suns!" Excellent!!! :D Now to catch up with all the posts here. ^_^

message 119: by Jess (new)

Jess (jhigg) CONGRATS CICI!!! That's WONDERFUL :D:D:D:D I wish you all the luck in the world! ^_^

As far as how I'm doing, I found an apartment above a pizzaria and I'm working at Wendy's. I know, I know. Fab job. :P I'm also going to be attending summer school so I can get out of college in 3 and 1/2 years with 2 BAs.

Jen, here's the info about Darkly Dreaming Dexter. I heard it isn't so good as a book, so I'd recommend seeing the HBO special if you can. It's available for live stream on Netflix if you have it.

message 120: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Jessica, welcome back. I missed you. I would gain 50 pounds if I worked at Wendy's (chili, Frosties, french fries) and lived above a pizzeria (pizza, pizza, pizza). I don't know how you could stand it. But my hat is off to you - a job's a job and there is no shame in any honest work. My dad always told me "you are not above flipping burgers if it pays the bills".

What are you onto reading now? Or is it more stuff for classes?

message 121: by Jess (new)

Jess (jhigg) ^_^ Thanks. I'm going to try REALLY hard not to gain 50 pounds! I started doing yoga again for starters. :) I worked at a different Wendy's for 2 years so this one shouldn't be too bad.

As far as what I'm reading, right now I'm reading Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. It's a fantastic book and a really good thing to read right after A Thousand Splendid Suns. It's all about her life in Saudi Arabia and how she became an infidel in the Muslim faith. Next I plan on moving on to my textbook about King Arthur, since that's what I'm taking a summer class in. ^_^

How about you? What are you guys reading now?

Thank you Jessica!
Now the guy who played Dexter isn't he healing from some kind of cancer or something???
I really need to check his books out, everyone loves the show!

message 123: by Jess (new)

Jess (jhigg) Is he?! I didn't know that! I'll have to check into it!!

My roomie read the books and he said that they really didn't work as novels. Something about him seeming way to inhuman. The TV show goes out of the way to make him seem somewhat human, which is why it works. My roomate believes that if it had been in 3rd person it may have been better. But, that's just his opinion. If you read it, let me know what you think!

message 124: by [deleted user] (new)

School has ended and I am now working on getting the house and yard in order. The end of the school year is very demanding and I am glad to be in the recovery period (to the students this is called summer vacation). I must now wash windows, do the spring cleaning, make sure the gardens are good to make it throught the hot summer sun, and of course I must read as many books as humanly possible.

I leave for New York on Friday - we have booked a hotel in Times Square and several Broadway shows.

I hope you are all well. Cici, are you feeling well, baby fine? Jessica how are those jobs? Had any cake lately Steven? And Jennifer how are you faring?

message 125: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey Jenn, I am loving the cakes but also had a great day with the best pie buffet ever yesterday :o) Went to a local casino and they have an all you can eat buffet and they have pies...lots of pies :O)~
Oh and I used to work in Times Square for about 2 years. I worked in the 1500 building at a photo imaging company. New York is awesome and there's so much to do there. You will have fun.

And as for Cici and Jennifer, how are you two doing? Haven't seen your names for a bit and I know Jennifer was in the hospital. I hope all is well with her and she is enjoying the book I sent her.

Cici Hello everyone!!!! There hasn't been much activity on here in the past few days!
I'm doing good! I'm so excited about the baby and saw the first ultrasound, sooo precious even if it looks a little like an alien :) I'm starting to have trouble sleeping though with the big belly.
Haven't done much on planning the wedding. I'm getting so sleepy lately.
I've actually been reading a lot, well in the past three days I've fallen asleep everytime I pick up a book.
Steven, that was so nice of you to jennifer a book, we have awesome people in our group.
So I do want to read the Passage now, my sister heard an interview on it and said I had to read it and she's not a reader, but she wants to know how it is.

nov.26 it may be a turkey baby. In two weeks we will find out what we are having!!!! Yay! Steven reccommended it to me, he swears it's awesome, I'll let him describe it to u. In People magazine it got four or four and a half star.

message 129: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey Cici, sounds like you have been really busy. Having a baby and planning a wedding wow you are koo koo. My wife and I planned and paid for everything for our wedding and as crazy and exausting as that was, I can't even imagine doing that during her being pregnant but I guess you do what you gotta do huh. Timing is everything...maybe you should write a book about it :o) I know what you mean about being too sleepy for reading though. With all my daughter's graduation stuff going on and planning a barbeque/party for almost 50 people this coming weekend, my wife and I haven't had time for much else. As for Jennifer, I am just happy she got the book and I hope she likes it. How is she doing? I hope she is feeling better and we see her on here again soon.

message 130: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments This is a message about The Passage. For Jenn, it is a vampire book but not one you've read yet. This book is so amazing and it's only part one in a trilogy. Stephen King has given this book an amazing review and the book is already being adapted into a film which was in a bidding war between a few production companies. Ridley Scott, director of Alien, Legend, Hannible, Black Hawk Down, and the new Robin Hood, was the winner and is supossed to start filming this thing soon.
I highly recommend this title and will be heading down to Portland Oregon to get my copy signed on the 30th. Justin Cronin is doing a big signing tour right now and you can check his site to see when he might be signing in your area. This guy is going to be the next big name on the top sellers list.

your baby girl is all grown up and graduating! Doesn't time fly by?I can't belive how big mine are already. I can't believe how old I am either!! Haven't done much planning for the wedding took a break on that for now.

Cici I usually do the best when everythings last minute and completely stressful. I just don't. Want tthe stress now. Jennifer hasn't returned my calls or txts so I'm not sure what's going on but if something was wrong the. Fam. Would let me know. I know I miss her too :( next book order I will get passage I'm waitibg for mockingjay to come out and ill also get the girl who kicked a hornets nest and maybe halfbroke horses by jeanette walls.

message 133: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Yes Cici, time does fly by. I honestly don't feel old enough to have kid graduating from high school, and I definitely don't act old enough...I fight that age thing every chance I get. I sometimes wish time could slow down. There definitely isn't enough time in the day to do all I want to. Oh and they are now saying it might rain this weekend...I don't think my house will be very inviting with almost 50 people in it...not good.
Wedding plans are never as important as your health so just don't push things to much. Gotta take care of yourself.
As for The Passage, I am going to try and get some name plate things and see if Justin Cronin will sign a few for the book group people that are reading it. Remember to check his site though cause he could be signing near you soon.
If you see or hear from Jennifer tell her I said hi and hope she's feeling better.

Next time I talk to jenn ill tell her to get back on goodreads!

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I'm not too stressed for tomorrow really but a nice day would make me feel better...and my wife she gets all kinds of crazy when she's stressed...not good. We live out in Washington State and this years weather has been anything but normal for our area. We had nicer weather back in Jan. Feb and March...so weird.
As for the Justin guy, he does have 2 other books he's written. They are listed on his site I think but I don't think they are in the same genre as The Passage. And yes you are right there is going to be a movie adaption soon. The vampires in his book, I am scared of...probably worse than the ones in 30 Days of Night just to give you an idea. If I can get a name plate signed by Justin, I will send one your way. Maybe if you can get your group to read The Passage, you can get a special offer through his publishers or even have him invited for a Q & A session. You could add me to that head count :o)

message 137: by Cici (new)

Cici I think all women get crazy when they're stressed, lol.i have 2 40% off coupon to borders so hopefully I will get up there before they expire! I will get the passage and see if anyone else wants to read it. My friend just borrowed me an anne rice book blood and gold. I'm an anne rice virgin so I'm kinda excited excited to read her.

message 138: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Yes, women are crazy when they are stressed and us guys just get silly and stupid, almost as if we were drunk...so sad. I hope you coupon works out for you. I know you will enjoy The Passage and just fall in love with some of the characters in his book. Oo Anne Rice is a favorite of mine as well. I read the vampire books and loved everyone of them. They are definitely classics. I liked the first movie adaption but wasn't crazy for The Vampire Lestat one. I thought Tom Cruise, crazy as that guy is, was a better Lestat than the other guy. I felt that movie moved too quickly for me.
I do have her witch books and want to read those eventually.
Well, gotta go finish writing a story idea I came up with. Been messing with the writing thing since my wife keeps telling me I should...so whipped I tell ya :o)

message 139: by Cici (new)

Cici How did the graduation go? did you cry? I actually cried when my baby brother graduated, I was so proud of him! It's unbelievable I've never read Anne Rice, everyone I know loves her and I actually loved the movie Interview with a Vampire, but someone told me the book was waaaay better, but thats the way it should be, the book is always better. For the longest time the only vampire book I had read was Bram Stokers Dracula, after that I was like I've read the vampire book why read another. I loved it and it's classic, but I really wasn't too much into sci-fi unless it was realistic or the author made you feel like it could really happen. Then after a friend bugged me for a year to read Twilight, and I was like no way Vampires AND werewolves, no, no, no. But I finally read it and wanted more, I became addicted to young adult books and crazy sci-fi, but I still like it somewhat believable, I don't like getting annoyed with the author and rolling my eyes like "come on now, you could've come up with something better."
I also got into fairytales after I read the Grimms fairytales and Wicked. I heard Anne Rice has a Sleeping Beauty trilogy, so that may be on my list.
Are you going to share some of your stories with us?? And if you publish I hope I get a copy!!! I'll give you a good review!

message 140: by [deleted user] (new)

Back from New York - 4 shows in 3 days - I love Broadway. I can only take Manhattan in small doses, though. So MANY people make me crazy.

Congratulations, Steven, on your daughter's graduation, I hope that the party was a huge success and that the rain did not plague you. What is next for her? Is she going to college? Work? Military?

And Cici - you have got to read Interview with the Vampire, it was her best. Blood and Gold is a part of the same series (the Vampire Chronicles), but Interview was the first. And I agree with Steven, Tom Cruise was a great Lestat (who knew), I didn't see the second film because I was still sulking on how bad the first one was.

I am in on the Passages group read if we can get it toghether before Labor Day. I will check amazon right now.

message 141: by Cici (new)

Cici so do I have to read Interview with Vampire first because I've started Blood and Gold?
I will be reading The Passage, so whenever you are ready :)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey there peeps, my daughter's graduation went a lot better than we thought it would. It didn't rain all day but did remain overcast which was fine :o) It was kind of hard to set up for in the morning though. Trying to deside whether to set tables and chairs up outside or inside is crazy. We did have plenty of food and pretty much everyone showed up. I was stuck in front of the barbeque for most of it and wish I had a hat on. Got myself a nice little sunburn on my head :o( mostly gone now :o)
My daughter is planning on finishing up her college coarses she was taking with the running start program and wants to go away next year to a school for either writing and or videogame design.
My wife did cry a lot during the ceremony and then a bit at the party, I was just trying to think of something cocky to say to my daughter's new boyfriend that came to the party. My father in-law and brother in-law said we really need to work on an initiation plan :o)

message 143: by Cici (new)

Cici Oh be nice to your daughters new boyfriend! scare the poor kid, lol. SO you must be a baldy to get a burn on your head... I'm a very observant girl.
I bet your daughter reads a lot, too, you should get her on here, she'd probably love it and get people to read her stuff. Writing and videogame design is pretty awesome.

I don't think you have to read Interview first, but you should definately put it on you TBR list, you won't be sorry. That book is Anne Rice at her finest and is part of the whole vampire revival that started in the 80's.

Glad to hear about the success of the party and let her boyfried have it! I know that I secretly love when my dad and brother give a new guy I am seeing the 3rd degree, I squawk out loud and give them the evil eye in front of the new guy, but I still like that they make a show about how much they care about me. Just don't go overboard.
