Catherine, I am in Northern Jersey and you guys are supposed to bear the brunt of the storm, we are only slated for abour 4-6 inches depending on how the storm tracks.

I am still going to be doing a lot of reading on my bed and watching the snow fall outside my window with a cup of cocoa at my side.

Tip of New Jersey, right by Mahwah and Suffern or w0 minutes north of Paramus. I am 5 minutes from the NY State Thruway in Franklin Lakes.

We go down south too. My aunt lives in Toms River and our friends in Jackson & Forked River.

Cat (shynet5025) | 31 comments That is not South Jersey that is central Jersey to us

message 755: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I used to live in Jackie's town (from 5th grade until 10 years ago)Now I'm in Morris county maybe 15 minutes away from Jackie if that. And I'm always going to the shore (sister & brother in law have a place down there)
This storm is supposed to be worst down south than up north by us. I'm so ready for spring and summer. I went to the supermarket this morning and it's a mob scene they like usual before a storm hits or before a holiday. But I was able to get on express which was still long but went faster. So now I'm just keeping warm and waiting for it to hit. Just hope the guys that clean my complex do as good of a job as they did the other day. Usually I end up going out and doing it myself before they get here so at least I know it's done. I'll get comfy under a throw and put some nice music on and pile a few books next to me.

I am ready as well but I have to kinda admit I like the snow. I love playing in it building forts having snowball fights with the neighborhood kids. Can you tell I am a big kid. Must be why I help out at the local comic book store. Being so close ot the shore I do go often when summer is here though that is a plus.

message 757: by Catherine (new)

Catherine I love getting "snowed in". I don't think we'll get enough here for me to change my weekend plans though, which will involve a lot of driving unless the roads are too bad.

message 758: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I used to like it but I think ever since I fell on ice/snow years ago it's like I hate the whole ice thing. and I just love the shore/beach thing so I thing that makes me hate winter more because summer goes so fast with the back and forth I do that It seems forever when winter comes that I just can't wait for spring again.

message 759: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments I'm hoping we get enough snow to cover the ground and make it look nice out, but not so much that you can't get around. I have some errands to run this weekend and want to still be able to get them accomplished.

any plans I had for this weekend are now Void I don't plan on moving my car well maybe to shovel it out

message 761: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Well, I was planning on driving about 2 and a half hours for a book signing. I don't think our roads will be too bad, but now I'm wondering if the author is going to make it there. He has a signing tonight in the Long Island, NY area, and I know some of the airports in NYC are already cancelling and delaying flights. I don't want to drive all the way up there and find out it got cancelled!

message 762: by Cat (new)

Cat (shynet5025) | 31 comments Yea that would suck

message 763: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments Yeah, I would check first before driving there. What book signing were you going to?

message 764: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Catherine, who is the author? I used to go to alot of booksignings but haven't in awhile.
I'm lucky I have one of the few places in my complex that has a garage or I would be moving my car when they came to clean the driveways and such. That is one thing I don't miss shoveling now I do it because I want to before I had to do shovel a porch and long sidewalk and part of a driveway that a neighbor didn't plow for us.

message 765: by Catherine (new)

Catherine It's Chris Bohjalian. I was really looking forward to it, but now I have a strong feeling it's going to get cancelled or rescheduled. Looking at the radar, I don't imagine there will be many flights coming out of NYC. They aren't expecting a lot of snow there, but they're right on the edge of the storm, and everything below them looks really bad!

message 766: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I read a book or two of his and have maybe a few unread on my bookcase. That should be a good signing. If it's at a store you can always call them to double check before making the trip. I know alot of flights have already been cancelled. So who knows. I want to watch the news when it goes on in awhile to check to see what's happening and where the snow is. Hopefully it will get pushed out to sea before it hits here.

message 767: by Catherine (new)

Catherine It's at a library. Of course they don't know anything yet and I'm sure they won't find out for sure until tomorrow morning. But they don't open until 9 and it starts at 10:30. By 9:00 I'll already be on the road and halfway there. I hate winter!

message 768: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments His new book looks awesome. You are lucky and maybe your luck will hold out and he'll get there. It isn't supposed to start snowing till tonight and then we might not get very much at all if it is Newark, Laguardia or JFK.

message 769: by Catherine (new)

Catherine I'm "friends" with him on here. I already wrote him and told him I would be there and he even wrote me back! I've never met him in person but LOVE his books.

message 770: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (ladyvictoria5) | 98 comments A book signing sounds like fun. Unfortunately the last booksigning I wanted to attend was an hours drive into Salt Lake City. It was Anne Perry and the date was Sept. 11, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. I don't even know if it was cancelled or not.

We are having a mild winter. The snow is melted on the roads and the front of houses facing south. There's plenty of snow in the mountains for the skiers, though. I grew up in California and enjoy the seasons here but prepare the snow to spend most of its time in the mountains and not on the roads. I live by two universities and the out-of-towners don't know how to drive in the snow. Neither do the young people, or older people like me.

I agree with a cup of hot chocolate, sitting before a window with a pile of boxes with an added fireplace burning quietly.

message 771: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments Just finished #19, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith. Pretty good, LOL! I've never read Pride and Prejudice, but I want to now. Now all I have to do is call my sister-in-law and borrow it from her.

19 down, 125 to go.

message 772: by Susan (new)

Susan (superbookfreak) | 115 comments I finished two this month and have a few started. I'm going to curl up and read tonight since the weather is bad and my hubby isn't home.

message 775: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I'm reading #26 now Hot as Sin.

message 776: by Catherine (new)

Catherine I finally finished my audio book, Three Weeks to Say Goodbye. I really liked it! Also got a really good start on another audio book today, The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke. For those who are interested, I did get to go to my author event and I got to meet Chris Bohjalian! He's super nice and very funny in person. I bought his latest book, Secrets of Eden: A Novel, and he signed it for me. I will post a picture later today.

message 777: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Great you got to see Chris. We never got any snow up by me. Hopefully we will not get the one on wednesday either.

message 778: by Catherine (new)

Catherine We did get some snow. I drove about half an hour away last night to have dinner with my dad and stepmom and the roads were a little bad because of the snow and wind. But the roads up to Chicago were perfectly clear today.

Catherine, glad you were able to go to your book signing. His latest book is on the list of books I want to get.

message 780: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Thanks Jackie. It felt kind of silly driving all that way but I really enjoy book signings. I usually have to go to Chicago for them. We don't get any in my area. My town is about 70,000, so it's a good-sized town, but not big enough for famous authors to visit!

message 781: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Afsana, yeah it got better, about the last 70 pages. It is a 429 page book and it took til page 350 or so to get any good.

message 782: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jnhart) finished The Princess Bride by William Goldman for #15 this year

message 783: by Afsana (new)

message 784: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I just finished my 10th of the year, so I'm still a bit behind. Maybe if I pick up the pace, though, I can catch up by the end of this month or next.

message 785: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments Well--we got slammed here where I live. (Central VA) We had freezing rain/sleet first, which put down about 2" of ice--then we got 6 or 7 inches of snow on top of that. Altogether--NOT a fun time to be had around here. Fortunately I hit the grocery store before this hit, so we had food--and, more importantly, I had extra CAT FOOD. We all know what hungry cats are like. lol

Hubby took over my computer and reformated the hard drive, then put a new op sys on it. Its still not completely up and running (I think I still have about 5 programs to load) but its acting MUCH better now.

I've done no reading the last couple of days. I've been trying to get some of the other stuff done that I "have" to get finished this month. Sigh, UPS didn't come on Friday, so I didn't get my books I was expecting. Not that I'm short on books mind you--just that I was in the mood for a humourous anthology, which is what I was waiting for. Ah well, it will get here sooner or later, right?

Hubby tried shoveling out the drive today--but the snow is so deep, and then the ice--he only got half of it done.

Well, time to wander into the kitchen and see what I feel like fixing for dinner.

message 786: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cmbohn) Lisa, I read In the Woods too, but I can't say that I really enjoyed it.

I just finished The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind and I really loved it.

message 787: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Hope you get your books today. I hope the books I ordered from Levengers get here too. I know it's coming regular mail and they sent a notice saying it was mailed a week ago so it's now the waiting game to get a notice in my box that it's sitting in the post office. We are expectig our next storm to hit tomorrow late /night at some point. I went and had to have blood work this morning so that is done. Rather get it out of the way. Tomorrow morning I run to WW then go to needlepoint afterwards.
