Angie (just-me) | 16 comments I think this was a story in one of my school readers in elementary school ~1979-1986. The story went that the little town (set in the past) was having a veteran's day type celebration and they found out there was one really old soldier left from the revolutionary war, so they brought him down an honored him. Later they realized by his gun, that he was a Hessian (German mercenary/conscripts that fought on the English side of the American Revolution). The town eventually comes to the conclusion that all soldiers are essentailly the same and that so long after they honor this man who fought on the other side and heal the rift.
