Miriam I vaguely remember this book. But it was my daughter who read it. I think the name of the book was the poodle's name. And I don't think I still have a copy in my house. The one I remember had a pink cover with pen and ink sketches of a bistro table and chair, the Eiffel Tower and the poodle, who was on his hind legs. Does that sound like the right cover?

Yes, that sounds like the one I was thinking of too Miriam. I don't remember the poodle's name either. I'll see what I can to to shift through the 10 shelves of children's books that I still have and see if I DID keep it. If I don't have it, then it had to have been a library book. Hubby is home sick, so not sure if I'll get to it before next week tho.
Pantaloon.

2010 edition, illustrations by Steven Salerno.

1951 edition, Illustrations by Leonard Weisgard.
Pantaloon is a poodle with a sweet tooth. He adores cookies and yummy pastries. So when the Baker is looking for a helper, Pantaloon applies for the job.
“Oh, no, Pantaloon!” says the Baker. “You look to me as if you’d eat more than you’d bake.” But Pantaloon proves him wrong in this charming Golden classic...
