Once in the bathroom, Sabrina leaned against the sink and looked at herself in the mirror. Her eyes, red and puffy from crying made her hope that the hallway had been too dim for Jacob to notice, and she splashed her face with water. Move on. the thought that was not her own came to her unsolicited. Though the sensation was the same as when Henry's thoughts had tried to enter her mind, the voice was different, the vernacular unidentifiable, and no matter what she did, she couldn't get it to go away.

Sabrina changed from her pajamas to shorts and a tank top, slipped on her sneakers, and slipped out of the house and into the woods, where she broke into a run, looking like any jogger, but really just trying to outrun the voice in her head. La,la,la. I like it here. I can't believe you moved here. You don't belong here, you should know that. You should go straight home and convince your mother to get you guys on the next plane to aliey. or the closest, airport to Ailey, anyway. The voice had woken her up early that morning, and as far as she could tell, nothing it said had yet to make sense to Sabrina. It went from mocking her relationship with Alek to the way she was kind of starting to like Forks, even occasionally poking at the uncertainly of her flashing red eyes and the lingering pain of her father's death.

Alek was out hunting, trying to stay well away from LaPush, to minimize and risk of ever possibly running into Sabrina.

Sabrina wasn't a fast runner, but she could run for long periods of time, and eventually strayed far from LaPush and pretty much anything and everything she found familiar. And still, she kept running. You ever think your daddy might not have been all you thought he was? Or maybe your mom's holding out on you. What could possibly make she and her sister - both lovely, peacekeeping women - cease all contact with each other for 17 years?

Jacob waited patiently, running his fingers through her hair.

"Can we go swimming in the lake?" Susannah asked.

"What are you doing here?" Alek asked. "I could have killed you."

The sound of his voice dragged Sabrina out of her head, and her eyes focused on him. "What are you doing here? " she asked, not having. heard him ask the exact same thing,

"Now back to my original question: What are you doing way out here?! I could have killed you!" Alek said, sounding like a parent scolding a child who ran out into the street.

Sabrina narrowed her eyes at him and his tone. "well I'm sorry," she said sarcastically. "I didn't realize the forests of the northwest had suddenly been put under your jurisdiction. should I get an official pardon the next time I'm up for a self destructive jog? or maybe you should France in your hunting territory! brilliant, right? because tell me, Alek, how the hell was I supposed to know you were here?" By the end of her speech, Sabrina sarcasm had turned bitter and biting.
