I have been pondering long and hard, as I have not been able to pin down what the Corbyn situation reminds me of. However, this evening it came to me in a moment of clarity - there are huge similarities between Jeremy Corbyn and Donald Crowhurst. Both got an idea and got talked into taking an action that they were unsure of. Both set off on an adventure and were considered the outsider amateurs. Both came from behind to reluctantly take the lead when it was least expected. Both were forced into a situation that they were ill-equipped to handle.
Here is the documentary about Donald Crowhurst. It is both fascinating and tragic in equal measure, but incredibly compelling. Watch it and I think you will see things in a different light.

Corbyn has appointed Baron Watson as his shadow education minister. For those not familiar with Scottish politics, Watson served 8 months in jail for trying to set fire to a hotel in Scotland...
Corbyn must be a Tory plant.

I was thinking more along the lines of nettle.
Lynne (Tigger's Mum) wrote: "Was there really a space in 'an orchid'. Geoff. :o)"Well, it's better than trying to fit in a nettle.
Geoff, if you are being obtuse I should have said was there there really a space between the words 'an orchid'. ;0)

I find it more alarming that our fledgeling PM smoked spliff while listening to Supertramp's "Crime Of The Century". Clearly a formative policy-forging moment
Crime of the Century. At least he was smoking it to a classic album, that I saw performed live. He's gone up in my estimation.

Once again, truth has been proven to be stranger than fiction. If anything, Cameron has gone up in my estimation. Admittedly, he was starting from the bottom of a mine shaft, but none the less :)
so if I face-****** a pig's head in an exclusive Oxbridge student dining club you'd buy my book? Scuse me while I go procure a pig's head...
Marc wrote: "so if I face-****** a pig's head in an exclusive Oxbridge student dining club you'd buy my book? Scuse me while I go procure a pig's head..."I don't know why the UK is surprised by these revelations - the upper classes have always been a law onto themselves.
You wrote a book??

So, 9 pigs heads it is then.
Loving the Facebook gags..Especially the one of Milliband pulling a face whilst eating a bacon buttie to the caption:
That moment you realise Dave's provided the mayonnaise...
I'm a big fan of Crime of The Century though. Does that make me a bad person?
There seem to be two strands of Cameron joke doing the rounds. Amongst what you might call the non-intellectual and politically incorrect the most repeatable is 'I didn't know Cameron had been out with my ex-wife'
Patti, why would anyone choose to drive a diesel? (Except Jim, who has access to red diesel. Not that I'm suggesting anything of course.)Geoff had an Audi, I seem to recall?
Two key questions:1) Why is Ashcroft releasing this stuff now, if he's been sitting on it for years?
2) Why isn't Cameron denying this?

You recall correctly. Actually, I had two, one was superb (petrol) the other was... less so, that was diesel.
My current car is a diesel and is very economical for the travelling I do, lots of long distance driving. No use for short journeys, as many people found out when the dealers mis-sold them.

Mind you, reports are now beginning to appear that the petrol cars engine management systems have also been gamed to reflect lower CO2 levels. After all, why only cheat on one type of engine?
evidently there has been confusion for some years. When the Euro-6 standard was imposed, it was expected that nitrogen oxide levels would decline, but they didn't. This is what raised suspicions. Of course, not all diesel cars are VW Group, so this must be quite common.

That goes without saying, Michael, but my questions still stand! :)
surely you remember the phrase 'to deny is to confirm'Denying will actually do no good. He probably couldn't afford to fight Ashcroft in the courts as Ashcroft could just spend a few million to keep it in the headlines for months or years
As it is the sort of comments I've heard, people by and large don't seem to bothered. Another joke I heard was where one chap joined some others standing chatting when it just came out and made a comment about what cameron put in pigs mouths. The reply was "I've seen some of the women you slept with" followed by general laughter.
The general opinion I see out there when you just stop and talk to people in queues or whatever is along the lines of "they're all rich spoiled brats on serious money. We're supposed to be impressed because some socialist has take a cut in income more than I earn a year just to join Jeremy Corbyn's shadow cabinet."

Will wrote: "If the cheat is computer software based, I would automatically suspect every other major car manufacturer as well, to be honest "If you think about it, it is, once again, the tragedy of the commons. To sell cars they have to have lower emissions, increase acceleration, increase torque, and increase fuel economy over their competitors. If one manufacturer is getting advantage by disguising its emission results, to indicate that their cars have better performance, then the others have no choice. As I said above, the tragedy of the commons.

I can laugh, assured that it is entirely unlikely that such a thing was ever fitted to my Alfa, and if it was fitted it wouldn't have ever worked...
