Janis Powers, here. I am a blogger about political and social issues for The Huffington Post and at my website Provocative Perspectives (www.janispowers.com). I have just finished a novel about how one professional mom turns the tables on societal norms to get what she wants. Maxine Pedersen is a Manhattan patent attorney by day and a mixologist by night. If anyone can figure out how to work the system, it's her! Please read about her at www.mamasgotabrandnewjob.com.
My manuscript was edited by the editor for The Help. The book is due in July, 2013. I've posted the first chapter on my profile page - check it out!

My name is Kathryn Page. I have published a GLBT novel called Shattered Reflections. I'm working on a dystopian novel at the moment which I think will be called Choose Yr Future. I'm also an avid reader - particularly Science Fiction, Dystopia, Magic Realism and Horror.
Hi, I'm Nykol. Lifelong avid reader. I enjoy various genres of books. I'm new to Goodreads and I am enjoying myself tremendously. It's like being a kid again sitting on the floor of the library between the bookshelves :-)
I'm an author of a new maritime history book - "Deer Isle's Undefeated America's Cup Crews" published by the History Press. If you're interested in sailing, the America's Cup races, or American history, give it a read and I'd be interested in hearing what you think of it.
Being a nature lover I spend a lot of time outdoors in NW Montana, it is spring and bears are out of hibernation which brought me to think about safety when in bear country.Have you ever thought about: Humans swagger when one has something to prove. Grizzly bears have nothing to prove? Because of not having to prove anything that same bear can hold an adventurous human hostage by fear. Learn more about not being held hostage.
If you wish to read the first chapter right now here is the link.

Wow, this is a big group! It's taken me two weeks just to read through enough posts for me to make a proper introduction:)I'm Sandy, a high school teacher (English and World History), mother of two daughters, avid reader and newly published author.
I love to read fantasy and prehistoric fiction, which is probably why that's what I write. My first two novels are part of a series set in the late stone age in the Black Sea region. Fans of Jean Auel, Judith Tarr and Mary Mackey might be interested in them. My new novel is my first foray into fantasy, and is based on Irish and Scottish shapeshifting legends.
Since I can't seem to get my latest book's cover art uploaded here on Goodreads, find me on Amazon:

Hello! I think this is a nice group and I'd like to introduce myself as well, even though I'm not a writer, but a cover artist. My name is Ruxi (comes from Ruxandra) and I'm a Romanian digital artist. I've started studying digital arts at the age of 15, first as a hobby. The hobby soon became my profession and I'm currently working as a freelancer.
I'm also a Biology student and a cat lover!

Hi Vincent! I'm not sure where to place my upcoming book -- General Fiction is too, well, general; I suppose the nearest thing is Historical, but that's not really what it is. I wonder if you could add a group Women's Fiction, or better yet, Multicultural/International Fiction, or better yet, both! That's where my book belongs! Thanks for creating this space for writers and readers, and see you around!
hi everyone,i'm jade :-) Im mainly a reader at the moment but the writing itch is insistant and regardless of my demanding 1 year old I have completed a manuscript, albeit very (and I mean Very) rough.
I'm also new to goodreads so still getting to grips with it :-)
Hi Everyone, I'm in search of advice on print publishing on Amazon.
I published my two previous print books (also eventually on Kindle) on Amazon using Lightning Source as the printer.
However that was two years ago! I'm anxious to find out if things have changed in the interim.
I seem to recall reading that Amazon no longer looked kindly on books not printed by their own publisher, Createspace.
Has anyone any advice they can share in this regard?
Cheers,
Tony
Hi mary,It's new adult - a love triangle with a twist and Lots of angst :-) I mainly wanted to work on developing characters and voices and ended up completely immersed inside my own head!
Nerve wracking to write and I expect terryfying to publish if I decide to take that leap.
:-)

Hi, I'm Cheryl Yeko and I write romantic suspense. To support my writing habit, I also wear many other hats...LOL.I'm an acquiring editor for Soul Mate Publishing. I also work part-time as a legal assistant at a small law firm. And, I'm a Virtual Assistant, providing administrative services from my home ... which includes conducting real estate closings for title companies as a mobile notary, a business I've had for over ten years.
Thank you for the invite.
Hello...I'm Leanna (L.F.) Falconer, a struggling indie novelist getting my feet wet. My fiction is hard to classify--mixed genres with a common comment of being "unusual", (which I find to be a wonderful compliment!) I've always been a bit of a rebel and enjoy writing outside the box.
Hi everyone, my name is Gabriel Boutros. I spent 24 years as a defence attorney in Montreal, and recently self-published my first novel, a courtroom drama called The Guilty. Despite what some have said, it is NOT about me. You can read about the book and some of my other fiction writing at www.storiesbygabrielboutros@weebly.com
Hi, thanks for the invite.I write and read. I have two books releasing this summer. One is a novella under my pen name, Forbes Arnone and the other is a novel, which will release under my real name, Jennifer Garcia.
I tend to write romance and that seems to be what I like to read as well. However, I have read other genres and liked them as well.
I look forward to perusing this group some more and getting to know all of you!
Oh, and I see some of the readers in the group introduce themselves as "just a reader." No such thing as just a reader. Readers are just as important if not more so than writers. Make sure you proudly announce that you are a reader! :)
David Niall WilsonFigured I'd stop here first and say hey...My name is David Niall Wilson. Hello! I am Michelle Mogil, an author just getting my feet wet. I have one novel on the launch pad and a couple more in the works. Usually, I manage to read a book a week, but lately I've had to curtail it in favor of writing. I enjoy just about any genre of fiction, but I've always been particularly drawn to those that tell a story about human (or not) relationships. I do have a question about the categories. Is there a definition of each one somewhere? Fantasy can encompass and bleed into paranormal, for example. I'm looking forward to what this group has to say.
Hello All,My name is Mark A. Prior, and I am a first time self published author. Everything is so new to me and I'm stoked to be part of this community.
My book, Couch Potato Politics, was inspired by the political climate of the United States during the past several years. So I wrote it partly out of frustration, and therapy, and even hope.
Again, I'm looking forward to being an active member of the Goodreads community, and would like to extend an open invitation to anyone to message me, particularly if you're interested in government or politics.
All the best,
Mark A. Prior

Hello there. I'm Belle Blackburn, author of The Doctor's Daughter:Journey to Justice, historical fiction about Civil War Nashville. I am looking forward to getting to know kindred spirits. I do have a question, though. I know it is better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt, but can someone tell me the difference in "adding" books, "shelving" books and marking them "to read?". I'll go play with my two piece jigsaw puzzle while you smarter people answer.
Hello all you beautiful people. My name is Dale Hodges (pen name D.L. Hodges) and I authored and published my first book, Fissures, in April 2013 and currently am working on a second novel (with two more ideas I'm playing with). I don't know if my story is unique but until May of 2012 I had only read a handful of books my entire life. Between May and October I read 22 books and at the end of November was 'hit' with the idea for Fissures. I completed it in early March then took another month to get the courage up to publish it. It is available through amazon and lulu. The process has been a very positive experience (I was fortunate that my sister, as I found out, does independent editing and offered amazing support) and I hope the 'creative juices' don't stop flowing. Thanks for reading my story.Fissures
Wow, this is a lot of authors. Hi everyone! My name's Eliza Wyatt-- I primarily write fantasy, and I have a special love for atypical settings and intrigue. Hi everyone. I'm so glad to have found your group. I was rooting around GRs looking for a place to post information on my blog, The Cancer Diary, at authorjswinn.wordpress.com/blog and stumbled upon you. That's often the way I get around. So, I'm taking this opportunity to introduce myself and let you know a little about me. Not only am I an avid reader, but I'm also an avid writer. I recently published my second book, a romantic mystery, The Spirit Keepers, at www.amazon.com/dp/B00be9wa8g after having a wonderful experience with my first novel, a mystery/suspense, Out of the Shadow, at www.amazon.com/dp/B008pym59c I'm now working on revisions for my romantic adventure, River of Desire, which I hope to publish by years end. Tune in for more. And keep on reading on!

Hello, I'm Othen Cummings but everyone calls me Don.I wrote and illustrated some children stories for my mother while taking care of her after a stroke. She would tell me what she liked about the stories and I would make changes until she was happy with them. I later self published them under the moniker A Pet Banana Production.
My illustrations aren't the greatest but I'm happy with them:) They are available to read here on goodreads now. I hope kids enjoy them as much as I did creating them.
Hello all! I'm L. David Hesler, author of fantasy, horror and science fiction. I'm taking this opportunity to re-introduce myself as I've been away for some time. I published with Lightning Source last year (June) and it worked out great. I hadn't heard that Amazon had changed their relationship with Lightning Source. Does anyone else know?
Hi VincentI've read a lot SF and Fantasy. About 4 years back I wanted to see if I could add something to the genre. Since then I've written. Most of my output is in genre but I like to add depth - little bits of history, philosophy (both are interests of mine).
I've just self published A Guide to First Contact.
Science Fiction - lets talk Philip K Dick. He demands study - even if you don't agree with his position. The universe of SF is vast and uncharted, yet he navigated them effortlessly.
