Matthew Curry (oldkingcurry) | 3 comments I'm so glad I discovered this group. My name is Matthew Curry. I don't read nearly as much as I would like to, but I still make time for it. Last week, I finished "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. Right now, I'm reading a "Star Trek" paperback novel. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I love those. I've just written and illustrated my first book. It's a young adult sci-fi novel called "Under the Electric Sun." It's now available on Kindle.

Christine DeLange | 8 comments I like reading your posts. I have been writing for a long time. First my stories were only one page, but then they became longer and longer. I've discovered if I'm not writing for a longer period my mind goes haywire and I become extremely unhappy. You can read an excerpt of my first novel here; http://postdoos.blogspot.ie/2012/10/m...

Deb Hey everyone! I'm Deb. I live in Pennsylvania on an Amish farm. My son & I both work in at large chain bookstore. Working a great deal of the time in the children's dept., young readers is my thing. But I must admit, the "age limits" really bother me! Young readers is for 8 & up. I am 55 and some of the best books are young readers. Young readers just means you don't get the language and sexual situations. So if you haven't checked it out lately for yourself, do yourself a favor & do so! You just might be surprised! Right now I am reading "The Quest Begins" by Erin Hunter. First book in the Seekers series. The Quest Begins (Seekers, #1) by Erin Hunter byErin Hunter

Hello Vincent and thanks for putting this group together. You ask if I'm a writer or reader ... I'm both, plus I write book reviews for Climateprogress.

I spent 35 years in the environmental field then retired to write ... It's been fun, and my first book, A Being Darkly Wise, is doing well. I'm at work on another.

Andrew | 3 comments Hello everyone!

I'm Andrew and I joined Goodreads just a few days ago after self-publishing my first e-book, The Policeman of Secrets by Andrew Melvin . I used to work as a journalist, designer, and sub-editor for newspapers in the UK, but now live in Canada, where I work as an editor for a not-for-profit organization.

Even though it's only been a few days for me on Goodreads, 'm really impressed by the quality of writing and the friendliness of people here. I'm looking forward to exploring it and getting to know more of you.

Philip Maxwell | 3 comments Hi everyone. I’m Philip Maxwell a UK author of a trilogy about an American who inherits an old house in Wales and with it some ancestral obligations The trilogy is called Inheritance and I’d like to say it has everything in it: suspense, action, mysticism, betrayal, romance and sex but my wife edited the steamy passages out. Deemed too cringe inducing… that’s my chances of the ‘Bad Sex in Fiction Award’ gone!

I’m currently writing and researching another novel about astral projection. I can’t say I’ve experienced any out of body experiences myself but must confess I’ve come dangerously close after one too many Australian Chardonnays.

Well, that’s probably far too much information but I’m new to Goodreads! Hoping I’ll learn something from new friends!

Libertad Araceli My name is Libertad Araceli and i love to read! My favorite genres are YA, fiction that blends interracial and multi cultural characters(not erotica though), urban fantasy, paranormal romance, epic and high fantasy. I like when authors choose different legends and topics to enlighten readers with because face it Vampires, angels and werewolves is getting kinda you've read one, you've read them all.

although my passion is working to see more diversity in these types of books, i'm not limited to them.

I write a blog about it if anyone was interested in reading it. My sister and I try to write twice a week in it just to give it some fresh updates

D.C. (dcmallory) | 15 comments Hello. My name is Duane (should I add the requisite "I'm a writaholic" here?), and I've always loved reading and writing. I was that kid in school hiding under the bleachers during PE with a book in my hands when, obviously, I should have been doing something else (ahem, no, not that!). Of course, when you're always picked last to be on the team, and then only because they were forced to let you play, you find other avenues of escape.

I started writing erotic space fantasies in my freshman year in HS, and many found them entertaining. Hmm, 9th graders and stories of sex; it all seems like a no-brainer now. ;-)

Anyway, I've decided, for better or for worse, to write a book of short stories and self-publish. It's hard to decide what to write on as there are so many thoughts in my head running rampant. I have settled on a genre and a target audience. I have several stories I am cleaning up in anticipation of the big event.

I also have a site that I use for book reviews, my writing, and just letting others know what I'm up to. It's url is www.dcmallory.com - its not a busy site, but maybe one day it will be.

Thanks for having me here.

Primarily I hope to connect with readers to whom the novel might appeal. Beyond that, I'm happy to explore other ways that I can be a productive group member.

It's late here now so I'm going to sign-off without any hard sells and look later at the correct way to present my work to you as per group rules.

message 5078: by Florence (new)

Florence Witkop | 79 comments Hi All... I joined the group just a bit ago.

I'm coming down from a week-long Book Blast for my latest novel. It's the first I've ever done and I have many thoughts about marketing after this experience. Mainly, how much is too much? They wanted me to post everywhere every day with links to wherever my book would be promoted that day. The first day was fine. The second day, I cringed at bothering people. The third day I wanted to upchuck. And so on.

So now, in this post, I'm just saying that I'm an author and I write contemporary romance that often has a supernatural touch. No werewolves, no vampires, I go in for much simpler stuff. And if you are interested you can find my works on my Goodreads author page and on my blog/website. http://FlorenceWitkop.com
So thanks for being patient and reading this post.

Laura Gray-Rosendale | 2 comments Hi there. My book _College Girl: A Memoir_College Girl: A Memoir is coming out today with Exceslior. It's about my sexual assault while I was in college. I really hope that folks in this group check it out. It took me a long time to write it. It's been well-reviewed thus far. I am guessing that some folks in this group have been through what I describe and/or know folks who have.

People have asked me whether it was "cathartic" to write it. My answer is "The first 100 versions were 'cathartic.' The book you are reading has nothing to do with catharsis. But it took me all of those crappy drafts to get there."

Please let me know your thoughts on it, if you do pick it up.

Best to you,
Laura
