I read this late last year, and I really enjoyed it. I'm waiting on the audio version to come in for this BOTM re-read, and I'm extremely curious what that will be like.
I heard in as a fan made audiobook on youtube. It can feel daunting at the start but just embrace that you don’t know what, when or where things are happening. It’s part of the experience. Great story overall.
Ooh I read this earlier in the year and loved it! Curious to hear what others think and if they did enjoy it too, what other similar books they would suggest.
I just finished the book a week ago and loved it! Has anyone read other qntm books? I love how he writes and I wanted more of it.
Unfortunately the wait on Libby is several months long (this always happens with new and popular books and presents a problem, because we vote on the monthly read with only a couple of weeks turn around). I may have to use an audible credit on it, but I won’t be able to read it until mid-July even then.
Oh my gosh, I read this last month and adored it! I said it reminded me of the Silence plot from Doctor Who mixed with some X-Files vibes.
Great book, I read both v1 and v2. If you already somewhat familiar with the SCP Foundation then v1 is a treat. Took a little to get used to v2 because the author had to change stuffs that's related to SCP. There's a few notable changes and rewrite that make the story a bit more cohesive as well. Very much recommend the audiobook narrated by Rebecca Calder, the atmosphere is 10/10.
I started this last night, and I'm really liking it so far. It was hard to put it down and go to bed.
Probably the most unique plot device I’ve ever encountered, and I found it terrifying the more I thought about it.
Those who finished the book.. how was it? Its relatively a very short read but i wana know if its worth spending my weekend on it
I read it about two months ago. I loved it, but I'm guessing it's not a book many would take to the beach for a leisurely read while on holiday -- it's quite mind-bending. I'm a huge fan of Christopher Nolan, especially his sci-fi films: Interstellar, Inception, and most relevant here (I think, though more because of complexity than plot similarities), Tenet. Add Memento too, for other reasons. If you like those films, you'd love this novel. If not, well.....
This was one of those books that I finished and then sat staring for a few minutes after I put it down. Total Kermit longingly looking out of the window into the rain vibes.
I agree with Jim, those type of storylines are a good comparison for this book. I personally really enjoyed it, so much so that I am happy to reread it 6 months later. I enjoyed the way that the story reveals itself, and I’m very curious how the experience will be different on rereading, knowing what I know.
Just started this (ch.3) and the concept makes me so uneasy in the way it breaks rules of basic perception and reality. It’s very unique and I’m curious to know more (if that’s even possible 😅)
