I have been considering trying a graphic novel. I follow a blog where Habibi is recommended. Any thoughts from those fellow readers who have read graphic novels? Any recommendations?

Stitches
The Complete Persepolis
The Complete Maus
Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic
Blankets
Watchmen
Sarah Pi will probably add considerably to this list. :)

Indeedy, though I'd recommend all the same ones as you to start. I'm looking forward to Habibi, which seems to be arriving at my library one panel at a time, some assembly required.
In addition to all of Amber's great suggestions, I'll add:
La Perdida
The Arrival
Castle Waiting, Vol. 1
Runaways Deluxe Vol. 1
Black Hole
Some of Amber's list are actually more autobiography than novel. To that category I'd add
Pyongyang: A Journey in North Korea
The Photographer
There's also a difference between "graphic novels" and volumes that are in fact collections of an ongoing series. Some of the latter are fantastic as well - the collected Sandman, or the collected Y: The Last Man, for example - but I steered clear of suggesting those for now.
Just finished Tollesbury Time Forever - Stuart Ayris and now about to start Last Train From Liguria - Christine Dwyer Hickey
Janice wrote: "I started the audiobook The Secret Scripture this morning. Tonight, I'll be cracking open the pages of Out of Africa."I enjoyed "The Secret Scripture"

I gave up on the audiobook version. I'm going to pick up the paperback version.
I also bailed on Out of Africa.
Now I'm reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The World's Most Haunted Places, Revised Edition: From the Secret Files of Ghostvillage.com
and listening to People of the Book.
Jackie "the Librarian" wrote: "Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride."Enjoy, Jackie! I thought it was lots of fun.
LiesA fascinating author, and even more fascinating book! The mysteries throughout the series tie in together so well, and I catch myself getting so caught up in the events and secrets...
I finished this morning Last Train from Liguria - Christine Dwyer Hickey and now I am reading Office Politics - Sharon Gerlach
I just finished The Magicians for book club and don't know what to think. Anyone have a clue what this was about? Book club meeting is Thursday. Help!
Sally wrote: "Pi, I didn't make it very far in Pyongang. Is it worth a revisit?"I found it really interesting, just because we don't get to see inside North Korea very often.
Cynthia wrote: "Cheri, our own Sarah Pi has written a nice review of The Magicians."Aw, shucks.
Cheri, do you need questions to ask, or questions answered? Feel free to message me or ask them here (with spoilers marked, of course) and I'll try to answer. It's been a while since I read it but I think I can still talk about it decently.

Phil, are you a power bottom?

Janice wrote: "I started The Wolf Gift for my Feb 2012 new release challenge."I'm very curious about that one. It's good to see Rice returning to the subjects and (hopefully) style that made me a huge fan before her unfortunate foray into religious writing. It certainly took her long enough to try her hand at werewolves.

So far, its good. I was swept into the story right away.
Did you ever read Cry to Heaven? I'm interested in that one which is another departure from her vampire books. It doesn't sound like one of her religious books either.

I liked Cry to Heaven. It was a very odd book, centered around the last of the castrati singers in Europe. It was very sexual, but not in a gratuitous way.
I think my favorite of her non-paranormal books was The Feast of All Saints. It's been a long time, but I remember loving it and reading it in one very long sitting during a 12 hour car ride.
Janice: Amber and I agree. My favorite Anne Rice is most definitely "The Feast of All Saints." It takes place in New Orleans, pre-Civil War, with people of color and quadroons and octoons and mistresses and bastard children. It is delicious historic fiction, concerning a world I knew very little of."Cry to Heaven" was a good, enjoyable read. No vampires or werewolves. Maybe an evil priest or two.
Last night I finished Office Politics - Sharon Gerlach. Now I am gonna carry on reading Cut Short - Leigh Russell.
Still reading Buddenbrooks, which is slow, but fortunately has really short chapters. Also reading Moralities of Everyday Life.
This morning I finished Cut Short - Leigh Russell. Now I am going to read Fairy Tale Flirts 5 Romantic Short Stories - Lisa Scott.
I finished People of the Book and started The Snowman. I'm about 1/2 way into Anne Rice's The Wolf Gift and I can't say that I'm totally entralled in it. The truth be known, I'm a bit bored. I'll keep slogging through it in hopes it gets better.
For my f2f group I'm readingThe Book Thief~Markus Zusak
It's the first time we are reading a young adult book.
It took me about 75 pages before I started to get into The Book Thief, but now I'm enjoying it. I think it was the unusual writing style that caught me off guard. It will be interesting to see what my f2f group thinks of it.
I have just finished Fairy Tale Flirts 5 Romantic Short Stories - Lisa Scott Now I am reading Uncle Mildred and Other Stories - Ian Ayris.
Finished Uncle Mildred and Other Stories - Ian Ayris. Now I am about to start Shattered - Karl Jones.
Yes, Charly, I am looking forward to the discussion next week. I think you are spot on about people either liking, Book Thief, or not. I think that can account for the many reviews that are positive on Amazon and a higher than normal amount saying they didn't finish the book. I actually enjoy reading books set in the FDR era. There is so much to learn and so many different angles to approach the subject of the the war, Great Depression etc. I'm also a nut about FDR and Eleanor. :)
Charly wrote: "Reader, I don't know where you are in the book so I don't want to spoil anything, I just happen to believe, as the book shows us that on either side of any conflict or dispute there are good people..."----------
Yes, I agree. I am about halfway through.

Did you decide to read this one because it is the next PBS Masterpiece Classic ? I'll be watching it this Sunday. I missed it the first go round.
I'm about to start Birdsong: A Novel of Love and War because it's coming up on Mastahpiece Theatah in the spring.
