Ahhh, he's just trying to get back at me for calling him a lady.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) He is a lady. We're going to be remaking the movie Lady and the Tramp. I will be starring as the tramp.

I'm reading The Betrothed: I Promessi Sposi. It's all plot, unfolding like an opera.

Oh mary, ive been wanting to read that. A lot.

I do links when I want to, phil-style. I never knew HTML could be "old fashioned." Neat-o.

message 1355: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) I was warned. I finished reading The Hunger Games at 2:00 this morning and immediately downloaded the other two books in the trilogy. I'll start Catching Fire a little later today.

Looking forward to the spaghetti scene...

ms.petra (mspetra) The Informationist. Hyped as the best thriller since The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Vanessa Monroe is an engaging character and a 1/3 of the way into the book, it is a good read.

message 1358: by Jammies (new)

Jammies I am supposed to be beta-reading a memoir of the landing at Iwo Jima, but non-fiction I didn't choose feels like homework, so I re-read the entire Hunger Games series.

message 1359: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) I was forced to quit reading tonight, Barb. I have a massive headache building.

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments Hope you feel better Janice, there's nothing like being in the middle of a great read and being hit between the eyes with a 2x4 of pain.

I'm about halfway through The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood and really loving it, but I'm having a hard time finding time to read lately. I really need to set some ME time aside to finish it.

well, shit. i didn't realize it made a difference. hence, i use < and > with 'b' or 'i', whatever, inside. so let me attempt to do it the proper way.
*clearing throat*
i finished

Just After Sunset and started Full Dark, No Stars. i have one more of his i want to read then it's back to the usual fare, i'm sure.
(hope i did this correctly).

and it motherfuckin' didn't include the damn author, even though it was included in the fricking link. so, just let me add the author is Stephen King.

and please let me apologize for the rant.

message 1362: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) LOL! Wasn't that a tactful and diplomatic way of me to get the message out there? Sorry, it wasn't meant in that way. It was part of the conversation between Stacy, LG and me about putting links in messages.

That reminds me of a coffee room conversation years back about people letting their vehicles run in winter while they get groceries. I expressed that it "bugged me that people waste fuel like that". One of my coworkers said, "Well you can't tell people what to do, Janice." My response, "Am I allowed to express an opinion?"

But I digress....

I just bought Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King. (You can add the author's name same way you do the title.) I'll be interested in how you like it Angela.

I've read two Vines and no Rendells. I wasn't that crazy about Minotaur. It doesn't make me want to branch out into the Rendells.

message 1368: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Groan. It's morning already? I'm going to be late getting into the office after staying awake till 2:30ish reading Catching Fire. At 2:30 I had finished the book when my husband woke long enough to ask me if I was going to read all night and then went back to snoring. I went back to finishing the first chapter of Mockingjay.

message 1369: by Janice (new)

message 1373: by [deleted user] (new)

message 1374: by [deleted user] (new)

Myles, I've had those Lewis books and the Dune books on my shelf for ages as well...maybe I'll get to them this year? :)

Just a Weathercock joke, Amelia.

message 1376: by [deleted user] (new)

But, I think it's just a weather-vane shaped like a rooster. Don't know, haven't opened it yet. Not feeling it today.

I noticed you shelved the old covers, from the 60s. Do you own those? I own two of the old ones. Fabulous cover art.

message 1378: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) I was up to 1:30 this morning finishing Mockingjay. I'm seriously thinking that I should skip work today and sleep. But I can't, I have a client coming in.

I don't know what to read next. Does anyone have a suggestion as to which book from my TBR I should read next?

On your list:
I loved
Middlesex and Dorian Gray. I abandoned The Condition after one chapter but I don't remember why.

message 1380: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Myles had the first suggestion, so I will read The Stand. Then, I'll read Dorian Grey and discuss it with Gail.

Barb, which book on my list was it that you wouldn't recommend to anyone? If a book is on my TBR list it means that I own it.

message 1381: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't read a single book on your TBR list. :(

message 1382: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Since I started The Stand, I've also started and abandoned two audiobooks, Three Junes and The Women. It was the narration on the first one that did me in. I'm not sure what it was about the second except that I was ready to doze off while listening to it. I'm hoping that the third audiobook is a charm - The Widow of the South. I started it this morning.

Kendra I am currently reading The Help. I can feel the tension of the time while reading this book.

message 1384: by [deleted user] (new)

I loved The Help. I'm from that area, so it's awesome to know the places they're talking about. It was very well written and managed to be funny while still getting the serious message across.

My foster mom was telling me about this book. I had forgotten all about it, until you mentioned it. Thanks! I'll add it to my list so I don't forget again. :)

RA, is Stardust that good? I saw the film, I liked it okay, but wasn't that compelled to read the book based on the film.

message 1391: by Sarah (new)

Now I'm reading The Little Stranger which is hard to put down. I wasn't sure what to expect from this author, and I end up disliking most current fiction, so this is a pleasant surprise.
