Tony Duxbury | 62 comments Clandestine Lives: The Jester, the Courtesan, and the Assassin is my latest offering. A mix between sword & sorcery and paranormal.
A legendary assassin, the most feared in the land. A beautiful courtesan, famed for her beauty and skill; and a jester, servant to a Duke with a fearsome reputation.
Three lives, one story. Their fates are bound together in a way in which none of them could ever have imagined. They are unwittingly tied together by a heinous curse. Each one slowly becomes aware of their strange existence until finally, the horrible truth is revealed.
As the Empire slides into civil war, all three must confront the unpalatable truth about themselves. Unfortunately, none will be free to unravel the mystery of their past unless they first embroil themselves in the schemes of others.

Jabari Ashanti | 1 comments Hello All, I'm a young and very recently self-published author. I still have a long way to go and a lot to learn, but I'm excited to step into this world. My book is a short fantasy novel that's dear to my heart.
A little backstory: I started writing this book at the age of 16. My friends and I used to go into the woods after school every day doing questionable activities and making up tales of our legend. After some time in the army, I was deployed overseas and found the old file sitting in my drive. I decided to finish and publish it right after, to prove to myself that I could. As a result, my first book is more of a personal victory than a literary masterpiece. Regardless, I'd love nothing more than to have the eye of a keen reader go over my work and tell me how to improve so that someday I might be one of the greats.

My book: The Epics of Rathhild

My book is a pure fantasy adventure. It's centered around a kingdom that has held the seat of power in the world since its founding. As the kingdom recovers from a long and confusing war, the elite of Rathhild are thrust into an adventure with the fate of their home on the line. As they set off to track a sorcerer through the world, our main characters begin to learn that there are things in their world that are far more powerful than their mighty kingdom, and they are forced to question just how far they'll go to protect the ones they love. Check it out, I'm very open to discussions and constructive criticisms. For any inquiries or even just to talk, my email is jabariashanti@gmail.com. Thank you in advance:)

Christopher B. | 2 comments Here is the blurb for the story.

"The ancient and enigmatic continent of Zannondale had seen its fair share of sorrow. Tortured and despoiled by the wars that had devastated its once glittering realms, it still felt the aftereffects centuries later. And now, from far back into the past, a new and more powerful evil than ever is rising, one that threatens to turn Zannondale’s fields to dust and her cities to ashes.

The brutal and merciless Baron Chronus has only one desire and that is to rule over all, no matter what. And for two young men, Dorian and Dain, it means the end of their carefree lives forever. Together with their mentor Julius and the ferocious warrior Kara, the two young men embark on a quest to defeat a shadowy evil, avenge the fallen and uncover long-forgotten secrets of a tragic and hidden past. They have the courage to face the evil that threatens to destroy them, but do they have the strength to defeat it?"

Rachel Stanley (rachel21stanley) | 11 comments Hello everyone! I’m new to goodreads and a brand new author to boot! I read bucket loads and love that there is a platform where I can share my love of books with people.

If anyone is interested my debut novel is called A Grim Affair.

The book blurb is below. If you decide to give it a read, I hope you like it 😊 Rachel

Wait! What? The Grim Reaper’s real?

I most definitely did not believe in the supernatural. Until the Grim Reaper showed up in my bedroom demanding to know why I’ve been controlling him. Which, of course, I haven’t. He also said that I am the only one who’s seen him in around about a thousand years. Which, of course, can’t possibly be true. Something peculiar is most definitely going on…

Emma lives a normal life, so normal that her own mother has been known to accuse her of being boring. But then she sees a mysterious stranger, one that no-one else admits to seeing, and her life changes forever. Emma becomes convinced she is being stalked but the Grim Reaper says it’s not him. And if it isn’t him, who is it?

Unbeknownst to Emma her life is in danger. Can she find the answers she so desperately needs before it is too late?

Hello, my name is Wilbur Arron:

I am another new fantasy author, like the several hundred others that seem to pop up every month. My background is a bit different through. I am a retired scientist and professional engineer who had a career of over 40 years. I always wanted to write fantasy and science-fiction and now I have the time. Before this I wrote constantly: such as engineering reports, technical articles, forensic reports, prepare environmental legislation, and spoke before many civic and professional groups. My clientele were the Fortune 500 companies, state and federal governments, as well as mom and pop operations that needed a hand. You do not go far in my career if no one can make sense of your writing. I tell you this so you will not think I am another 18-year old Tolkien want-to-be and blow me off. All of my books were both professionally proof read and formatted to eliminate mistakes.

My books are about people in conflict: social, political, and personal. For the two books below, the story revolves around a newly gradated mage returning home after ten years. He arrives there and finds a land undergoing invasion and filled with political intrigue. He soon finds out that all the notions taught to him about magic, philosophy, morality, ethics, and social customs do you no good when someone has you at the sharp end of a spear. Then your options become fight, run, or die. How the young mage and his human and non-humans friends handle this is the story.

Besides my book, I also have a web page that has more details about my books and my background. It also has my blog on various aspects of life in the ancient Greek world. I am a lay historian particularity in the fields of ancient western civilizations. I have spoken at many Worldcons about the history of science in fantasy and science-fiction, and on the environment and other technical matters.

Comments are always appreciate on both the books and my web page.

Ellie Rees | 3 comments Hi everyone,

My name is Ellie Rees and I'm a would-be writer based in Cardiff, South Wales. I've recently released my debut novel 'The Arben Bridge' on Kindle with the paperback coming soon (I hope!)

The story is set in the fictional city of Miraylia and focuses on Tarley; a woman in her mid-twenties who is a guard on the ancient Arben Bridge. For the past six months guards have been disappearing without much evidence as to how or why and so Tarley sets out to find the truth. Like any journey in the fantasy world there's lots of twists and turns as she discovers new secrets about her heritage and the city she lives in.

Growing up in Wales I was surrounded by fabulous myths and stories and wanted to build that into the story so it really is an ode to my love of fantastical stories.

The book is available to download here: http://bit.ly/TheArbenBridge

I also like to write scripts and shorter prose pieces which you can check out on my website: www.elliereeslikestowrite.com

As with a lot of people I'm trying to entertain myself during lockdown with as many books as possible so if you think you know a book I might enjoy please do let me know!

Thanks,

Ellie

Jody Norman | 1 comments Hello, all,

I'm Jody Norman, author of New Trails, Book 1, first book of a planned series. The first book is out in Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes. You can also check out my website (https://trail-talk.com/) for my blog.

I love thresholds, portals, and the mystery and magic that surrounds them. Cosmology, quantum physics, and the paranormal are the backdrop of my books, and if you enjoy these ideas, I think you'd enjoy my books.

So here's the book description!

Troy has never been comfortable in his own skin. Betrayed and abandoned as a child, raised by a man who wasn’t his father, he learned to rely solely on himself. Trapped in a life without purpose or escape, he fiercely hoards his time in the wilderness, which provides his only refuge. As for his dark memories, he shuns them as completely as he shuns other people.

Suddenly forced into a totally different world, Troy realizes it doesn’t work by any rules he knows; mystery and magic are the norm. Guided by his new companion, Kieran, Troy must learn as an adult the skills most learn as children. What does it mean to call a trail? And how, after everything he’s been through, is he supposed to trust Kieran? If he wants to survive, he will have to learn both.

Kieran, orphaned at age seven, also stands apart from his people, rarely seen for who he is or his abilities, even by other Guardians, who view him with equal parts distrust and grudging admiration. The young B’Guardian ignores their opinions, choosing to make his own way, until Troy crashes into his life. A bond of mind and soul transcends the differences between Kieran and this outworlder, a bond that has the potential to make something greater of them both, if they have the courage to accept it.

Together they must face Aodhan, the dark R’Guardian who wants to bind Troy to him, using the outworlder’s very soul to destroy Aodhan’s own world in the name of saving it. And Kieran, junior to Aodhan and the older man’s long-term foe, is the only one who can stand between them.

Will either of them take the journey they’re called to, or survive it if they do?

Rhett | 4 comments " Artemis the Fey (Spellbinder Saga Novellas, #1) by Rhett Sinnema

Hi,

I’m a brand new self published author looking for reviewers on amazon and good reads. My first novella, Artemis the Fey (Spellbinder Saga, #1) is available on amazon https://amzn.com/B08732YKTC/. It’s a short (26K) adventure with some fun characters. Content Warning: There’s profanity and violence. If you live in north American and would like an ARC please let me know. The second novella is out this weekend.

The blurb:
The first Chapter in the Spellbinder Saga.

Meet Artemis the Fey, daughter of the greatest Spellbinder Endris has ever known, all round bad-ass, and a fairy out for revenge. Banished from the Moon Fairy Groves for using forbidden magics, she now hunts Vladimir the Iconoclast, aided by her crude but lovable bounty hunting partner, Giz, and her ever-faithful tiger, Denbei. It's cover to cover action in this adventure about castoffs, bounty hunters, and magic in a unique and zany world featuring a flawed hero who will stop at nothing to find the Iconoclast, and hopefully prove the Fey, and the Fairy Goddess wrong!

I won't post the second blurb as it'll give away some of the story from the first. If you'd like an ARC of the second or a copy of the first to prepare for an ARC of the second let me know.

Thanks very much for reading!

Best,

Rhett

Welcome! Please post your books or leave a comment!"

Hi, my name is Jane H Wood, and I am the author of fantasy novel
“GoldenEars: The Whispering Mountain”. YA and Adults.
The story tells of the plight of wolves and their conflict with man. Where after generations of persecution and the relentless hunting of the grey wolf, their survival is in jeopardy.

The story is set in Canada’s western wilderness. The spring of 1972 heralds the birth of new pups to the alpha female, Mira. But as the weeks pass, the unusual appearance of two of her offspring, Kegg and Glyth, grows more pronounced, where dangling from each of the pups ear tips are long golden hairs. The sight spikes uneasiness into the ever watchful pack of wolves as distrust grows.
An eerie strangeness hangs amid the treetops, invisible but ever present compounding the onlookers’ superstitions that something is amiss. As fear turns to aggression, Joel, the alpha male is forced to assert his dominance and defend his family.

Edmund Rainer 16, is on vacation with his dad in the forest, when by chance he discovers the injured little body of a wolf pup. He rescues the pup and cares for him secretly inside the small outbuilding near their cabin set amid the trees. A friendship blossoms between the two, but when a devastating storm propels them on an extraordinary journey, they must use their instincts to survive the many dangers lurking in the forest.
Unwittingly, Edmund becomes embroiled in the treachery surrounding the young pup as old pack members intervene.

Myths and Legends long forgotten are reborn as the mystery deepens, compelling Edmund to follow a path with his wolf, both powerless to stop. A constant moaning emanating from the mountain range casts fear amongst the ungulates grazing on the open plains.
A fortuitous meeting with the Forest Rangers help Edmund when he is dire need. Later he learns of the shameful truth behind the diminishing wolf population. This knowledge sets his life on a new course.
But when fate challenges his resolve and separation and circumstances threaten his life, Edmund must muster all his courage if he is the protect his beloved wolf, GoldenEars from harm. Events spiral to a climax when nature unleashes an astonishing power throwing Edmund’s beliefs and hopes into disarray.

Book 2, is part two and continues the story. “GoldenEars:The Pale Skulls,” is due to be published in January 2021.
Thanks for reading my story, Jane.

I'm C. B. Lyall and my book is The Virus of Beauty.
Ugliness is power, and The Virus of Beauty has become a pandemic virus causing widespread panic.
The witches only hope is persuading a teenage boy to accept he's a wizard and release the cure from a spellbound journal he inherited from his father. But Wilf Gilvary would rather see his soccer ball fly past a goalie than experience flight by broom. When a young witch he's befriended contracts the virus, Wilf must overcome his fear of magic to unlock the journal's secrets - but will it be too late to save her?In this debut novel, C.B. Lyall takes us on a journey to modern day Hong Kong before plunging into an alternative realm of magic.
The Virus of Beauty is a compelling read with rich imagery, compassionate and ruthless characters. The story is told through the eyes of Wilf, Katryna and Wilf's stepsister Myra. Each will be betrayed, manipulated, befriended and tested before they reach the end of this journey.

Murat (murat_tash) | 5 comments Hello everybody,

I recently self-published my first book, the Witches of Corndale, and I would like to let you know about it. It is a fantastic feeling to hold the paperback copy and seeing my kids enjoying reading it.

The 'Witches of Corndale' tells the story of a young girl, Evy Jones, after running away from an orphanage and arriving at the small town of Corndale.

Unaware of the power she possesses, she comes to stay with Lucy Coleville (the White Witch) who lives in an old cottage outside the town. Together they will try to find out more about Evy’s past, but there will be some unexpected discoveries waiting for them.

I think you will find the story mysterious and captivating, and some bits can make you smile.

Book-Talks is a platform where passionate readers like you and me and book readers from around the world can come and chat about their favourite books. For e.g. If you’ve read a famous book, then why not chat about the book with readers who have read the same book – share your thoughts on the book, the best moments and scenes in the book, post a fan edit for a part of the book you liked or disliked etc. I really really wish you would check Book-Talks and contribute in its aim for connecting book readers all over the world. Lastly, as said by Lloyd Alexander books are the best form of an adventure then why not share your adventure with others and also be of their adventures.

(PS: Thank you for spending your precious time reading this message. I Pinkie Promise that you will love Book-Talks and Book-Talks loves you back for visiting it.... Thanks again!! Have a wonderful day!)

Please check it out it right now!!! https://book-talks.com and don’t forget to sign up if you like it!!!

Nicholas Musgrave | 4 comments Hi I'm Nick

I'm new to this group and new to Goodreads.
I'm addicted to good fantasy, classic horror, innovative since fiction and great crime thriller novels. Particularly like stories that mix those genres. I've recently self-published a couple of my own novels & joined twitter to discus writing and books @HollowKingbooks will follow back anyone who follows.

The Dreamviewer is the book in a series of wartime supernatural thrillers that draw on fictional and historical characters to tell the tale of young boy threatened by an ancient paranormal conspiracy.

The series has been a long time in development, with lots of careful detail to recreate the feel of that extraordinary period of history.

Would love to hear from anyone interested in reviewing self-published works.

S.J. Stanners | 3 comments Hi all, my name is Shelley, author name S.J. Stanners, living in the UK.

Really excited about joining this group. I have just self-published on Amazon.co.uk. I've been writing for years but never gotten over the hurdle of editing, but I've finally done it.

My book is a fantasy fiction novel called Amarlia - The Spirit Awakens, first in a new young adult series. One child’s solitary act sets the world on the move. A chosen few must embark on a spiritual journey of self-discovery, overcoming personal demons to defeat the darkened spirit. Lives will be lost; friendships will be forged and people will be transformed. I have included a video on my profile page.

Looking forward to chatting and connecting with likeminded people.

Oz G. | 6 comments Hi, everyone.

I just joined this group. I wrote my first fantasy novel during the quarantine and I recently published it.

It's about a creature that is featured strongly in Asian lore. But they are more gruesome and more compelling. I wanted to offer the fans of vampires and werewolves an option.

I called them Viscerebus, or viscera-eaters. They are known locally (and in Hollywood), Aswangs.

"They possess the supernatural abilities of vampires; they are better shapeshifters than werewolves. They are more gruesome and more compelling. They are not merely creatures of the night, they live and love among us. All 250 million strong. Meet the viscera-eaters, the Aswangs in RISE OF THE VISCEREBUS."

I would love for feedback and some review.

Thank you.

Peter Whitaker | 8 comments Hello, I am Peter Whitaker and I have written a novel following a challenge from son. I complained about the fact that so much fantasy appears to be based in medieval Europe and that I wanted something different, so he told me to write it and I did: The Queen of the Mountain Kingdom
For 5,000 years there has been a kingdom on the Holy Mountain of Oroson. The Old People, the ones who founded and ruled it, used an arcane magick to build gates that allowed passage from one side of the continent to another. Mt. Oroson is the largest mountain in the world and the spurs that reach out from its base effectively divide the continent. No one knows how the Old People worked their magic, but without it the other great kingdoms could not thrive.
The New People came to the Holy Mountain during a time of upheaval. The Old People ceded their kingdom to them, taking for themselves only the a sacred cave into which they retired to dwell.
1,000 years later and Princess Saran is the last of her dynasty. Her father, the King of the Mountain Kingdom, lies on his deathbed. She is young and lives in an age when women are not allowed to hold positions of authority, but she would be the first Queen of Oroson.
Against Princess Saran stands the foppish Heir Presumptive, Paremi Kun. He is supported by the High Priest of the Holy Church of Oroson, a man who abhors the idea of any woman standing in authority over him. There are few who do not agree with him, but counted in their number are the Orosies, an outlawed and exiled order of Priestesses, women who once pacticed their religion 500 years ago and who now hide in the shadows. He have warriors in their ranks, the Shades, and they are deadly.
A foreign power has sent agents to arrange an invasion of the Mountain Kingdom, even now their army, complete with a siege train, advances on Cirrius, the capital city.
Risdun Hak, a returned emigre, a mercenary, is employed by Princess Saran to return the once noble Royal Guard to its former station. He has with him Eiji Tunshi, a black man taken north as a slave in his youth, now looking to return home once he has repaid his debt to his friend. Their timing is unfortunate, the Old People have returned to reclaim their kingdom and they are ready to use their magick to succeed. Also, a monster stalks the streets of the city, killing at will.
Spies plot, assassins strike, monsters prowl, and armies clash. Above them a powerful Sorceress seeks revenge against the Old Ones who killed her brother. None know if she will prove a friend or a foe. Princess Saran will hazard it all to become the first Queen of the Mountain Kingdom, an epic fantasy in a Napoleonic fashion!

A Thief's Lies: Volume One of A Thief's War

Silloen Fay is the daughter of a powerful noblewoman, who rules over the city of Valesport. When the king of the land comes to take Silloen's father to war, a wry thief kidnaps her younger brother, and ruthless witch hunters target her mother, Silloen must struggle to save both her family and her city.
However, Lady Silloen is not the only one getting wrapped up in this elaborate intrigue. A foreign pair of mercenaries known as Dycae and Thodwin work as bodyguards for the prince as they march to war against a great rebellion. Dycae, unfortunately, becomes embroiled in far more dark secrets than he would like...
