This season, we're celebrating authors born in 1926 - a bang-up birth year for award-winning authors. In honor of winners John Updike and Hilary Mantel, read any book which has won a NBCC Award (any category).
You can find the list at Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationa... and click through to the different categories) or scroll through the list here.
Winners only, no nominees/finalists.
When claiming, please say which category and year your book won.

20.2 PEN Awards
In honor of winners John Updike, John Fowles, John Knowles, and Jan Morris, read a book originally published in one of the languages (other than English) that gives PEN awards other than for translation: Spanish, Portuguese, Hungarian, German, or Norwegian.

20.3 CWA Diamond Dagger
In honor of lifetime achievement winners Ed McBain and H.R.F. Keating, read a book from a series that has at least 10 books.
To calculate the number of books in a series for this task, we will count any .5 etc books listed in the GR series page. Upcoming books will be counted if they have a title and description in GR.

20.4 SFF Hall of Fame
In honor of Philip K. Dick, Anne McCaffrey, Richard Matheson, and Poul Anderson, read a book by an author who has been inducted into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Museum_...

20.5 Governor General's Award
In honor of Margaret Laurence, one of Canada's important 20th century authors, read a book by an author born in Canada or set at least 75% in Canada.

20.6 Pulitzer Prize
In honor of John Updike, Harper Lee, and Alison Lurie, read a book by an author whose first and last initials are found in PULITZER or whose first name is John, Harper, or Alison.

20.7 That’s Life! (Owlette's task)
Read a book with MPG of autobiography, memoir, or biography.

20.8 Books in Books (Apple's task)
Read a novel in which at least one other real book is mentioned, and tell us which book(s) you find (title and author). The mentioned book(s) must be in the main text of the novel, not in notes, introductions, or on other pages before or after. We'll be keeping a list of the books we all find and using them in a future task, so the more, the better!

20.9 Birds Return (Joanna's task)
I love seeing the birds come back as the weather warms up. Read a book about birds, bird watching, or with the word "bird" or the name of a bird in the title. Plurals and possessives work, no other variations. Bird names on the following list are preapproved. For others, please ask in the task thread before posting.
