ROSEANN'S TASK - READ ABOUT YOUR RESOLUTION
My resolution is to eat less processed food. I have found tons of books to read for the nonfiction portion, but am having a difficult time finding a fiction book containing "food" in the title. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you, Katie! I knew that they were out there, but my searches were coming up blank! I'm picking the first one.
For eating better or healing with food (eating better is a good start), would these two books work? The Lost Recipe for Happiness (fiction)
The Omnivore's Dilemma (nonfiction)
One of my resolutions is to keep my relationship with my husband (and our communication) strong during this deployment. Will the following work?A Good Man Is Hard to Find and Other Stories
The Five Love Languages How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate
Thank you!
My new year's resolution is to travel more. Will a travel narrative, like something by Bill Bryson or Paul Theroux work for the non-fiction book?
Since Roseann hasn't responded I'll go ahead and answer.Rachel Erin wrote: "My new year's resolution is to travel more. Will a travel narrative, like something by Bill Bryson or Paul Theroux work for the non-fiction book?"That should be fine
Cait wrote: "One of my resolutions is to keep my relationship with my husband (and our communication) strong during this deployment. Will the following work?
[book:A Good Man Is Hard to Find and Other Stories..."I think either of those would be fine
My resolution is to be more eco-friendly/environmentally aware/ "green"er if you will. Therefore, do the following work?Fiction: Thoughts from Walden Pond
Thoreau is a true naturalist. Love the planet, do something to save it.
Non-Fiction: Living Like Ed One Man's Guide to Living an Environmentally Friendly Life
Ed is hard core green.
Thanks.
Oh 5 Love Languages in an awesome book. I'm not married but I implemented it with my friends and family and it is super enlightening.Rachel Erin - I would recommened Bill Bryson's The Lost Continent Travels in Small-Town America. It is really well written and some parts are hilarious.
I'm a chubby girl so I was thinking something about weight.
Can I do She's Come Undone and You On A Diet The Owner's Manual for Waist Management?
Hi!
If you're like me and don't make resolutions, try this QUIZ and you can generate a random resolution to use for this task. It's is a fun little thing. A couple of annoying pop ups, which you can quickly close off.
oh jennifer, thank goodness for YOU! i resolved in 1994 to NEVER make another new year's resolution...and it's the only one i've ever kept! :) now i can come up with something for the task! :)
kiki wrote: "oh jennifer, thank goodness for YOU!"I am so glad to have been able to help. I have never, in my entire life, made a resolution, so I'll just fake it with the resolution generated by the quiz...and actually it gave me a reasonable thing to work with.
LOL!
My resolution is to read with my kids more often. Would these work for this task: Chicken Soup for the Child's Soul: Character-Building Stories to Read with Kids Ages 5 through 8 and Raising Bookworms: Getting Kids Reading for Pleasure and Empowerment?
Hi, I need help with this one! My resolution is to practice yoga more often, but I really can't find a fiction book that has yoga in the title. Non-fictions books are easy. Can I read a book that is fiction/mythological that is related to yoga in some way - like the Ramayana? Thanks!
Hi Roseann,My resolution is to become more politically active. For part A, I plan on reading Washington, DC, since "Washington" is a word related to politics. Is that alright?
Also, I'm trying to figure out my book for Abigail's task, and I'm wondering if you think "state" is a word related to my resolution. I thought maybe it wouldn't be close enough, but I want to make sure.
Thanks.
I'm not really a resolution person either but I found this book Younger Next Year Live Strong, Fit, and Sexy - Until You're 80 and Beyond and thought I should resolve to "turn back my biological clock" as the cover states. Any suggestions for a fiction book to go with this?

How about
Fear and Yoga in New Jersey
The Yoga Teacher
The Yoga Mamas
The task says "Read A Fiction Book With A Word In The Title That Pertains To The Resolution" so maybe:
Corpse Pose

I never got an answer for my question. Can I do She's Come Undonefor the fictional part of my weight loss resolution?

I'm not sure that I see undone as being a weight loss word.
Yeah I was just going to jump in here and delete that message. I thought it just had to do with a character who was dealing with my same resolution. I reread the task and saw the skinny word thing. Thanks Cynthia, sorry to waste your time.
I never got an answer for my question also. Would Size 14 Is Not Fat Either work for the fiction one for losing weight?

Yes
My resolution is to get my a$$ into gear and finally finish my Diploma in Child Care. I was hoping to be finished by the end of this year! But I got a traineeship in the library and I've had to place that as a kind of part time thing.
Any suggestions on books I could use?

For the fiction-no. Try looking up titles with "environment, green, ecology, etc" in them.
The non-fiction is fine.

I'll go with your part A choice, but the second book just has to do with the actual resolution, so you might want to look for a book that talks about how to get involved in your community.

Okay, thanks. Maybe I'll try The Greening of Ben Brown A Novel for the fiction one.

The fiction books about that have yoga in the title don't really interest me and I don't find them too yogic. I'm thinking about the following:
1st Resolution: Stop procrastinating and finish writing my dissertation
A. No One Writes to the Colonel: and Other Stories by Gabriel García Márquez
B. On Writing by Stephen King
2nd Resolution: Make an effort to finish books that I have started and never picked up again.
A.The Book Thief
B.TBD
Would those work? Does anyone have any book suggestions about reading? Thanks again!

For the "reading" you could try a book on procrastination.
Katie - if you're looking for a nonfiction book about getting involved in politics/your community, you could try Soul of a Citizen Living With Conviction in a Cynical Time - not sure if it would work for you but it's really good and I find it very inspiring along the lines of your resolution!
Thanks Roseann and Felina. I'm going to go with the writing resolution. It's an important one:) I'm going to fit The Book Thief somewhere else. So many people have enjoyed it. Thanks again!
Roseann, I just want to make sure you are ok with my resolution before I finalize it.My resolution is to be a better and healthier mommy (patience with a 2 1/2 yr old ;P ), so I was going to read Taking Care of the Me in Mommy Becoming a Better Mom - Spirit, Body & Soul and The Mommy Club. Is this ok with you?
Katy wrote: "Katie - if you're looking for a nonfiction book about getting involved in politics/your community, you could try Soul of a Citizen Living With Conviction in a Cynical Time - not sure..."Wow, Katy, that sounds just like another book from my TBR list: Citizen Democracy Political Activism in a Cyncial Age by Stephen Frantzich. I interned for him back in high school (oh, eight years ago or so) and he gave me a copy that I still haven't read. Sadly, that's not the oldest book on my TBR list.
I think for the second part of the task I'm going to read How to Overthrow the Government by Arianna Huffington--another one that's been on the TBR list forever. Thanks for the suggestion, though. That does look like an inspiring book. Must...not...add...to...list!

Figure Out What Your New Year's Resolution Will Be (Make One Up If You Don't "Do" Resolutions) Then…
A. Read A Fiction Book With A Word In The Title That Pertains To The Resolution--For Losing Weight Examples Would Be: Fat, Thin, Skinny, Weight, Scale--You Get The Point.
AND
B. Read A Non-Fiction Book Which Talks About Your Resolution i.e.-A Diet Book, A Money Management Book, Etc.
