Shaun Hately (drednort) | 69 comments Kids paperback book - I think it may have even been a series, I think most likely from the 1970s. A family living in space on their own family spaceship - Mum, Dad, and two kids, maybe.

I remember a snippet of a song I think one of the kids sang.

"I love travelling free.
I love space it loves me.
Isn't life great..."

There were a couple more lines, but I cant remember them, and I'm not sure these lines are exactly right.

Shaun Hately (drednort) | 69 comments Thanks, but no, that's not it. I've read the Heinlein book and that isn't the one I was thinking of.

This wasn't as "hard" Sci Fi as Heinlein wrote. Really there wasn't a lot of science in it at all as far as I can remember - it was just that it took place in space on a spaceship.

Shaun Hately (drednort) | 69 comments It wasn't quite as silly as the Jetsons!

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Can you recall any incidents that happened on the spaceship? ie: why is it 'not hard scifi'?

Shaun Hately (drednort) | 69 comments There just wasn't any real science. It could have just as easily been a story about travelling on a bus if it wasn't for encountering whacky alien creatures. Flying intelligent horses, I think were one of them.

Shaun, is this a picture or chapter book?

What do you remember about the cover art or possible illustrations within - cartoony/realistic, bright/dark/etc. colors, hand-drawn/painted/etc.?

Shaun Hately (drednort) | 69 comments Chapter book, but I think there were occasional black and white drawings inside. The cover I recall was realistic artwork, fairly bright. I have a feeling there was a lot of blue in the cover - maybe sky on a planet.
