Jamie | 12277 comments Question. I started Freak of Nature (IFICS, #1) by Julia Crane over 1 year ago. Read 69 pages but stopped. Had to start over to remember what was going on. Can I use this for a romance book for this challenge?

Sorry guys, been delayed by kids again! 3 boys in 31 degree heat is a bit difficult!

Heather | 10157 comments Congrats to the winners once they are announced :)

message 913: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) | 4856 comments Well, even I think it's hard to concentrate with the heat today, so I can definitely understand the boys! :)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 91107 comments Mod
One of them is only 3 weeks old so he's getting a bit grumpy in the heat!

message 920: by Marie (new)

Marie | 784 comments I totally understand about the heat. Scotland is only warm and sunny on rare days and it's about 20 degrees right now and I'm boiling.

message 921: by Tati (new)

Tati What? 20 degrees Celsius? That is nearly cold here in Brazil LOL

I mean, it's around 16°C, and I'm wearing long sleeves and a sweater

message 922: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) | 4856 comments Let's not forget about the difference in the humidity. 30C degrees in Denmark is extremely(!) warm, but 30C degrees in the south of Spain is nice :)

message 923: by Tati (new)

Tati I don't know about the south of Spain, I do know that summers where I live are hot and humid, to the point that you step out of the shower and immediately begin sweating.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 3665 comments I just saw all of these comments and it took me a moment to remember that most places use Celsius, not Fahrenheit, to measure temperature. Haha. The temps were not adding up in my head! I realized my mistake though. :)

Here it's about 100F which would be around 38C. And it's humid. Ugh. It's been so hot.

message 925: by Tati (new)

Tati Courtney, I feel for you, that is awful

message 926: by [deleted user] (new)

I wish it was cold but I live in California where we do really get cold days. The coldest we see in winter is around 50 degrees Fahrenheit which I believe is 10 degrees Celsius. Now in summer it's anywhere between 90-108 degrees Fahrenheit which is 32-42 degree Celsius. Plus we have high humidity.

Right now it's only 7:20am and its 59% humidity and its 72 degrees Fahrenheit out.

message 927: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 3665 comments Yikes, Lindsey. I've never been to California, I live in South Carolina, but I know what the heat and humidity feel like!

I feel you. We had 101 the other day. It was BAD. ☀️ It's why I'm planning a lot of indoor reading during the day and than enjoying the nice air at night

message 929: by Tati (new)

Tati We're in winter here in Brazil, which means lows of 12°C at night. It may not be too cold for some of you (especially Canadians and north Europeans), but temps like these mean everyone bundled up in layers and layers, scarves, hats, gloves, coats, the whole thing. And when it gets this cold, I get my feather eiderdown out.

message 930: by [deleted user] (new)

When we do get the few days of winter in California my friends in the east coast call me a wimp because to me 10C-20C is cold but they get in the negatives I believe.

message 931: by Marie (new)

Marie | 784 comments I could not live in any of those countries/states. It's 18 degrees here and 73% humidity and I feel like I'm dying haha. In winter it's usually about 5 degrees here.

message 932: by Tati (new)

Tati My German cousins are like that... 15°C and they're dressing shorts and talking of going to the beach, while the rest of us shiver in cold

message 933: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 3665 comments It doesn't really cool down here at night most of the time during the summer. :( Usually still in the 90s.

Tati, it doesn't get extremely cold here in winter, but it's humid so that makes the chill have a definite bite. Usually around 25F would be our low (but it can still get up to 50s or 60s during the day).

message 934: by Tati (new)

Tati Cold and rainy *shivers*

Cold and dry is okay, but cold and rainy, the chill gets to your bones

message 935: by [deleted user] (new)

The nights here are usually 70/80 Fahrenheit

message 936: by Marie (new)

Marie | 784 comments Tati that is basically everyone in my town right now. It's 18 degrees and everyone is out in their shorts and at the beach haha

message 937: by Tati (new)

Tati The thing is, I like cold weather. I love bundling up. I figure that you can always add one more layer when it's cold. When it's hot, it gets to point that there are no more layers to take off, and you're still melting

message 938: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 3665 comments Yes, it really does. People who visit from the western US (Utah, Idaho, Colorado) usually say it feels colder here than it does there, although they have much lower temperatures. It's the wet that does it.

Yes! I am from Colorado now in California, and this heat is beating me down fast and there is only so much I can do to try and keep the temp reasonable.

message 940: by Tati (new)

Tati Yep, I've heard Americans say that they've never felt so cold as they have here in Brazil. Again, it's the wet, but it adds to the fact that we have no central heating here. This means that, sometimes, being inside feels as cold as (if not colder) being outside

Reading Rediscovered (readingrediscovered) | 876 comments Here I am in central Manitoba enjoying my 35C weather (ok it is quite toasty) knowing only a few months ago (and then again in a few months) it will be back down to -35C!. I totally understand the humidity being a huge game changer though!
I'm just glad to live in a place where the temperature changes during the year. I don't think I'd like it very much if everything stayed the same all year.

message 942: by C.P. (new)

Those are my thoughts exactly, Tati! I would much prefer to be bundled up and moving to stay warm (even with the wet cold), than hot.

message 943: by [deleted user] (new)

Yup California hear can bite. And it's usually all we. I love when it does have a rare cold day in winter. Love to bundle up.

@Tati I agree.

message 944: by Tati (new)

Tati I just feel like a wilted lettuce in the heat.

message 945: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 3665 comments Wow, Jessica, -35C. I'm not sure I could handle that cold.

I believe the east coast (New York) gets cold. They had record snow, this year. I believe they had around -20C

message 947: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 91107 comments Mod
This is the hottest day of the year so far here. 31 degrees celcius is hot for the UK! Usually 20 degrees is shorts weather!

message 948: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Gunter We've had about 30 degrees up in northern England today so I've been sat out reading, it's just started to thunder though so I've had to come back in :(

Reading Rediscovered (readingrediscovered) | 876 comments Courtney wrote: "Wow, Jessica, -35C. I'm not sure I could handle that cold."

Surprisingly you almost get used to it. I mean, if you add wind to that then all bets are off because it's just really awful. But I guess that's one of the neat things about our world!

message 950: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) | 4856 comments I like to see the weather changing too. Besides, I love summer, even when I can't concentrate that well. We have great isolated houses and central heating, so that's fine. I get to see the snow at what and wear my bikini at summer so that's fine by me :)
