Sarah how are the points and scores working? Some of us are a little confused about the total points and points adjusted.

The adjusted scores are based on how many books have been read by the team as a whole over the course of the year so far, as some teams have an advantage over others - some people are faster readers, some people are slow readers, and some people have more people in their team, or team members who have read very little. It was the only way I could take all of those things into account. It's nowhere near perfect though.

Hmm I'm a bit confused how Team A got pushed down from first place and Z is now ahead with 80 points (based on 1000=5 points that's like 16k pages ahead now?)

Total scores are calculated based on (pages/200)+buddy points+points earned = total.

Each teams total is then divided by the total number of books read so far this YEAR by each team. I've done it this way rather than dividing by the number of players in each team, because it's fairer than counting someone who maybe only reads 10 books a year, the same as someone who reads 200.

The numbers of books read this year for each team are:
Team J - 510
Team U - 403
Team M - 441
Team A - 529
Team N - 413
Team I - 482
Team Z - 464

Ranked:
Team A - 529
Team J - 510
Team I - 482
Team Z - 464
Team M - 441
Team N - 413
Team U - 403


Originally when I made the teams, I tried to keep this number fairly even, but with changes to teams they have gotten unfairly split. Team A. and Team J. have a massive advantage over say Team U. This has happened so drastically for Team A, because Kysa was replaced with Markus, who has read 100 books more than she had.


So, exact calculations -
Team J = 211.31 / 510 = 0.414 So I removed the 0. to make things simpler = 414

and so on.

The fact that Team Z are ahead of you by 78 points by the adjusted scores doesn't mean that you will have to read 78 more books, or 16,000 pages, because of the way it's been calculated.

Surely you can see though, that a team with members who are able to read lots of books has an advantage over teams who have members who aren't able to read as many books?

I did try adjusting the points based on how many members are in each team, Team Z currently only have 5 team members compared to the other teams 6, but that wasn't fair because it doesn't take into account how fast people on each team read, and there are some fast readers on team z. I did say earlier in the challenge that I might need o divide by the number of people in the teams for exactly that reason. However, when I did the numbers, Team A. came out a lot worse off than doing things this way, which I feel is fairer.

The best way to get back on top is to work on completing whole sections and games to get the bonus points. Those bonus points will make a big difference.

Another way to look at it is... if I were to move 1 player from team Judy to Team Z., who has read 60 books, and would therefore make teams A and Z even... Team Z would have 476.41 points total, compared to Team A's 447.04, and that's without any extra bonuses for completing sections.

Sarah, thanks for explaining that, not that I get it, but that is because I'm not very good at math. Hopefully Christina can figure that out, my only problem is this has never been done before, and it would really have helped out teams I was on in the past., So I guess I'm just thinking why now, why not before? You don't even need to answer that question, I just wanted you to know where I was coming from :-)

I didn't think of it before. Previously I've given points to compensate for missing members, but because of the way this challenge accumulates points, it's not fair to do that. I could give 8 points, but then those 8 points if from an actual player might have completed a section or two, earning more bonus points.

I mean I could have just divided points by the number of people in each team, which I did say about previously, but you'd have been a lot worse off that way.
