SOLVED. late 80s or early 90s YA about a summer vacation with family [s]

i read this book in the early 90s and it was new, or at least not very old. the main character was a teenage boy who was going on a road trip with his family. it was a light-hearted book, in the 150-200 page range, and the boy meets a couple of girls on his trip - i think one may have been named Daphne or Phoebe. the book cover had a drawing of the boy with the girls, possibly standing by the boy's family's car or in an outdoor pool scene. for some reason, the phrase "are we there yet?" always makes me think of this book, but i've searched for that title and it doesn't seem to be the one.

It's about a boy going on holiday with his two new stepsisters, Clara and Deanie, and the cover has an illustration of all three of them.
