Why did you buy the indie books you own?

Famine - bought this because of the cover and the blurb. Really awesome idea...and it was borne out as I read.
Path of the Heretic - bought this because I'm friends with the author and I loved his first book.
Across the Blood Red River - bought this because I read Jennifer's first book during the Pay It Forward and loved it, so I read the second (it was better!) and this is the last one in the trilogy.
I fully intended to jump in on this when I'm at home and can add links but I think this is a GREAT way to endorse/promote indie without being a carpetbagger about it.

Don't worry. No judgment :)"
I fixed lol

Past Life Strife Because I LOVE the cover and because I met the author on GR. I had read two books I loved from her already.
Copperback Because the cover caught my eyes. The two hands reaching out for each other was intriguing. After I read the blurb, I just had to have it.
The Alien Chronicles Because of the title (and the book was cheap).
Zero Day I bought this one because the cover caught my attention. (I love the color red.:P) The blurb finished the job for me. (I didn't stop at the first book, I have bought and read the whole series after that.)
MURDERgODS I met the author on GR and was curious about his work.
Brackett Hollister: The Werewolf Pack- Because I enjoy weird westerns, I've been eyeing it for a while now and Quentin's read all my books so it's the least I can do!
Elixir Because I saw a thread where he was promoting this and got to read what it was about. Also I kept seeing the cover and it appealed to me.
The Undertaker's Cabinet- Big fan of David Haynes. I've read two of his books in his Macabre series and love his style and work. I picked this up the week it became published.
Rico Slade Will Fucking Kill You okay so I got this for free but the reason I got it is because, I hear it's hilarious, the title is ridiculous and Arnold is on the cover what more could you possibly want from a book?

So why would I buy something like The Whirlwind in the Thorn Tree, may ask? Well, for one, it's a great start to an amazing series. Dark Tower influence basically guaranteed it.
And what about Tales of a High Planes Drifter? This book turned out better tthan i tthought and then Ed and I fell into a friendship over his books. I fully plan to read them all.
At this point, I'm pretty like to give something a look, and if seems to call my name, I'll throw mmy money at it and wworst case, I've helped a fellow weirdo out. And a lot of my reading material is coming from new friends and fellow weirdos anymore.
I guess I buy for tthe community as much as a good story.

the dark colony cos of the blurb and cover art (I'm a sucker for old school cover art)
rockula cos of the cover art and blurb (more old school art. waiting for it to come in woot)
gangpire due to the blurb
outlaw voodoo due to the cover (more what's this than anything)
when I get on a outer will add links...

KP, not your books. Indie books from other authors.

So far most of the indie books I've bought have either been because I caught them on sale and either the blurb or cover caught my eye, or it was people I know. Oak Anderson and Stuart Keene have been listed so I'll just list a few others which are authors I personally know.
The Hopewell Conspiracy: A Darkstar Steam Novel
That was my first Steampunk novel, and a Weird Western too.
A Bloody Bloody Mess In the Wild Wild West
Another Weird Western from the group's own Justin B.
Seven Deadly Sins: Romance Horror Anthology From The Fringe
How'd that last one get there? :D
I'm going to slowly add more books from more indie authors as I work my way through.

A, I got mixed. Too many members... obviously I need a vacation.

The author, David Jester, is one of my favourite indie writers, or at least he was, because he was so good he has finally got a publishing contract. There is something about his writing style that just connects with me as a reader, it's very readable but with an edginess to it. I recommend him a lot. I bought the paperback after reading the ebook as now he is signed to a publisher, they are withdrawing it from amazon to re-publish. I'm hoping he makes it big and I've got a valuable first-edition on my shelf :)

This was actually the first indie book I read after I got my kindle and - honestly - probably sold me on the fact self-publishing wasn't a joke or consolation prize. I think I actually typed in "dollhouse" into a search and it came up (Never underestimate a title, right?). It was a creepy, mysterious story that was right up my alley and not something I was seeing on bookshelves.

I met Lyn just as a GR friend, we got to talking for a bit and she was gracious and down to earth so I figured I would check out her novel and try to help by putting up a couple reviews. I'm not a huge adult romance reader but the magic kept things interesting for me.

Another book where I got to chatting with a nice author and decided to check her book out. She told me she spent about 3 years researching and writing this series and I was impressed with her prose. The first book set up some interesting things so I'm almost certain to check her out again...hopefully not in another 3 years.

I was browsing for a good zombie survival book and this novel was one the first few pages of Amazon's lists in that genre. Tracey had another book series about zombies at the time as well as a scifi-romance, so that's likely what helped get her get into that top 100 at the time. She tells a quick, frightful and funny story which hooked me into other things she wrote so I'm not surprised others felt the same.

I grabbed this largely because it had an ungodly amount of reviews and about 10 other books in the series, which meant if was impressed by Ms. Moore's writing I had plenty more to read by her...I think I about another 4 books in the series so, yeah, good enough!
I guess the pattern in my indie book buying - at least at the start - was if you were a decent, personable human being instead of a soliciting author I was happy to check out a book so long as it sounded interesting. Otherwise, the book needed to be in the top 100 on Amazon and in a genre I enjoy.
Now, because I'm in groups and such, I'm savvy on different ways to nose around for indie books or pay attention to what others mention but it's still the same principle - don't be a sales person, write something I actually like to read.

Totally fair, Yolanda. I'm sure those ladies are just happy to have a few extra readers since they were always sweet when I spoke with them :)

About Face: TOWY Episode #1
Charlotte by Stuart Keane - This book has been on my to read list for ages and I have started reading, I respect the author, have talked to him many times, and his reviews says Charlotte is his best book yet, so I went for it.

Brackett Hollister: The Werewolf Pack by Quentin Wallace - Weird Western and werewolf. What could go wrong? Seriously, that's the only reason I bought it, intrigued by the premise. I haven't read it yet, but it's on my Kindle with a bunch of other books I keep meaning to read. I'll get to it...
