Marysol James | 45 comments Hello, Librarians!

I have a question and I'm not sure where to post it. I hope here is OK.

I have published 3 books under one name (let's say, Anna) and I'm thinking about republishing them under another one (let's say Mina). The author's name I'd like to republish under (Mina) already exists on both GR and Amazon, so if I went this way, I'd simply ask you to kindly add the books to a page that already exists.

My question is to do with my GR account under the original name of Anna that I used when I published the books. If they are republished under Mina's name, is it possible to delete Anna's author's page and the books? Or must the page stand, even if I unpublish the books on Amazon and then republish as Mina?

Thank you!
Marysol

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments GR does not delete any published book, even if it's no longer out of print. So the original entries would remain.

If they are the same books, they should be combined with the first published versions. The new entries would have the original author name added first, and be combined with the existing ones.

(For an example how this works, take a look at Geeta Kingsley and Geeta Kakade - The homespun romance series were first published as Geeta Kingsley by Silhouette many years ago, and recently republished, under her real name Geeta Kakade.)

Marysol James | 45 comments Aha. I get it. So if I did this, then all the reviews and ratings from Anna's profile would be included in Mina's, and both names would appear on only the republished books. Is that right?

Thank you for the help ;)

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments Yep, that's exactly right :)

Marysol James | 45 comments Thank you! I think I understand how this works now... great 'chatting' with you ;)

Marysol James | 45 comments Hello again, GR Librarians!

I'd very much like to pick up this discussion again, if at all possible. I'd like to request that the following books have some 'work' done ;)

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

(BTW, I have no clue why 'Bringing Her Home' has 2 separate versions... could you please combine them?).

I'd very much like the 3 books mentioned above to be added to my list of books as Marysol James:

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

HOWEVER... I DO NOT want my romance books added to my Michelle Smith GR profile - this can be avoided, right?

Ummm. Yes, I think that's it. If I understand things correctly, the 3 books will be added to Marysol's list of books, and the name of the author on them will be Marysol James/ Michelle Smith. All the reviews and ratings would be seen in my Marysol profile, also.

Is that all right? Thank you so much!

M

Marysol James | 45 comments I just noticed one more thing: I wanted to update the book covers, but it says I can't, even though I'm the author. How do I send you the new book covers for you to upload for me?

Thanks!
M

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments Hi Marysol,

GR policy is to never changes covers on published books, instead we create new editions (which you as author can then make default for searches if you want those new covers to show up first.)

If you have copies on a website we can use (your own, your publisher, Amazon) then a link to them is fine. Otherwise you can add them to your profile as images, and we can pick them up from there. I presume the new covers are under the name Marysol James? IF so, that will pretty much take care of putting the books on both profiles as well, so I'll wait for those if you like.

(ETA: In the meantime, I combined the duplicate editions of Bringing Her Home, and yes, you are correct, none of the books currently under Marysol James would show up as Michelle Smith.)

Marysol James | 45 comments Hi again... thanks for the lightning-fast reply!

Yes, the books covers are now published with Marysol's name. You can see them on my website, if you'd like:

Here you'll find What Happened That Day and Bringing Her Home: http://www.marysoljames.com/contempor...

And here's Stone Princess:

http://www.marysoljames.com/contempor...

If these are too small, you can always use the ones on my Amazon author's page:

http://www.amazon.com/-/e/B00LH0AIKO

So... does this mean that you'll create new editions of these books using the new covers?

message 10: by Krazykiwi (new)

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments Yup, I will do. And I promise I'm not stalking you to reply so fast, I get a notification up on the top, since I'd already replied to you :)

I'll edit in a minute when it's done so you can check it out.

Marysol James | 45 comments Aw. I kinda wanted to have an ardent admirer/ borderline stalker on GR. Drats ;)

And thanks for the help!

message 12: by Krazykiwi (new)

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments Well I could start stalking you now, if you like.

In any case, I think all done now.

To set the default edition, on the edit page for the one you want to show up first, on the right hand side about half way down is a link to set the default. You will probably have to be logged in the Michelle Smith account for that to work.

Also created the Nakasee Lake series for you (and going to check Marysol's page, in case there's any series needing some love over there.)

There's some caching involved on the site, so some of this may take up to 48 hours to catch up, although it's usually rather faster than that in reality.

message 13: by Marysol (new)

Marysol James | 45 comments OK, great! I'll set the default as you suggested and if I'm stumped (always a distinct possibility when asking me to do anything remotely 'techie'), I'll send up an SOS.

And will the Nakasee Lake series show up on Marysol's page, too??

Thanks! And have a good Friday ;)

message 14: by Krazykiwi (new)

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments I am not sure, but I think unfortunately there is a limitation and the series only ever show up on the first author of the first book's page. So probably not.

And I am, it's a vacation day here in Sweden :) (Which is why I'm puddling around on GR at 10 am instead of working!)

I hope you have a nice weekend too!

message 15: by Marysol (new)

Marysol James | 45 comments Urgh to bothering you on your day off. But SOS! SOS!

So, I went to the book I want to be the default book, and I went in to 'edit' and I see two places with the word 'default'.

One is 'set this as the default description'; the other is 'default chapters? set as default for work'.

Help?

message 16: by Krazykiwi (new)

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments Heh, I am curled up with my cats on my sofa, messing with books. That *is* fun on my day off :)

You want "Set this book as the primary edition for this work" Only authors can actually see that link, so I had to go look it up. I suspect you can't see it either, because the primary author is Michelle, but you're logged in as Marysol. Try logging in on the other account?

message 17: by Marysol (new)

Marysol James | 45 comments I DID IT!

As you suggested, I logged in as Michelle and set the newest editions as the default settings and made a few changes in the descriptions, too. Everything seems to be OK ;)

Thank you! Enjoy your day off ;)
