The May Page Count Challenge (Team Challenge) - Sign-ups and Questions
Well come on you hardly get paid to deal with all these rules the unhappiness and you actually arrange this for us to have fun yet all this seems to have turned into is somewhere arguments have been created, I for one would not like to lose these challenges because it is fun connecting with people and sharing that competitiveness but when we get to a point were spending hours debating rather than reading you have to question where the fun element is.
I have to say I agree with Nikki and Berit, these challenges are meant to be fun, and I am really enjoying it! And like Nikki said, big thanks to Abbie and Sarah for all they do, it must take so much time for you to run this group!
It has only been a matter of minutes not hours :) I was making a point which everyone has a right to. I have been super stressed lately because I find out in the next two days if my brain tumor is growing ( fatal thing there!) I haven't graduated high school yet and my life is in jeopardy. Just food for thought yall.
Thanks Rachel. :)We really dont want to stop the team challenges, but we both have responsibilities away from the internet, so having to deal with the arguing as well as trying to makes things fair for every team, doesnt leave us with much time to get stuff read ourselves lately.

I don't want to seem unsympathetic here heather but we all have issues we are dealing with privately if it really is becoming too much maybe instead of wasting time stressing yourself and others out you make the point privately then walk away for a little while rather than making it seem like an attack on the admin and the way they run challenges they've run successfully for months previously and otherwise. I won't be posting on here again, I won't waste my time or the admins. This thread is for the challenge sign up and questions.
I think we all need to take deep breath, read, have something to drink Sarah and Abby you are doing amazing and thanks a bunch! Now let's get back to the point of it all and read and make new great friends!
Thanks guys it just breaks my heart to know I may not live to see my kids in the future or to graduate a month from today.

I just checked and I'm truly not trying to be a pest or making a big deal but both team Austen and also team Wilde has at least ..."
The teams are as even as they can be, based on how many books each person has read this year. We find that this is a fairer way to do it than to have the same number of people, as some people can read much more than others.
Team Wilde have one member who hasn't checked in. Team Dickens only have 11 because Tammie asked to swap from fun to serious yesterday. Teams Allcot and Steinbeck have a much larger number of participants because they are the 'just for fun' teams, and their members are not expected to read more than 8 books each.
My decision to move Sharon was to make things even, as Sharon has read a lot more than expected. If a member of another team is also able to read 7,000 pages in under 5 days, they will also be asked to go solo.
Team Austen also still have 5 members who have yet to post reviews, I know that Megan and Jessica usually read quite a bit, so you may have pages that haven't been posted yet.

I have apologized for the way I was to the mods. If people continue arguing over it then it will only make it worse!

Thank you for explaining. I really do appreciate you guys taking time out of your days to run these challenges for us.
Just want to take the time to thank Sarah and Abbie for all that you do. It really is appreciated :)
Thank you for running the challenges and I hope that you can continue to do this. I am sorry that it took you hours to coordinate today. I hope though that the team challenges will not stop as they are my favorite challenges because they allow me to read and talk with more bookish people
I think all she is saying that if you read 7000 pages in five days then you will. I wouldn't worry about it if you are nowhere near that number.
This is my personal opinion, if you read a 400 page book in English then it doesn't matter what the page count is for the other languages, you didn't read the book in that language, that is just my opinion. Maybe the translation has a lot more words, I have no idea.
It does but I think you will be fine either way, I'm sure she will answer in the morning or whenever she has time
Thanks mods! Much appreciated for your time in making the challenge fair.
I know as a participant it's easy to complain haha
Sarah,I know I asked to drop out but if you are short a person on a team, I can join. Just know I'm a super slow reader and I wouldn't expect myself to read more that 3 books in a month, however if it will help, I'll do it. Please let me know.

Renee, you're fine, Sharon was asked to move because she's read more than 2 and a half time what you've read ☺

You're fine to use the longest edition, we have people in the group who actually read in those foreign languages so it's fine ☺ We have said that we'll use word counts for classics, and only 1/3 of the number of pages for poetry, but you've been checking page lengths with us before reading books anyway so you're fine.

Guys, we're not trying to worry anybody or bully anybody, we're just trying to keep the teams fair. I'm sure you can understand that if one person is able to read super fast, that it makes it difficult for the other teams. If Abbie and I were added to a random team, I'm sure everyone would think it unfair because we read fast, and we read a lot. This is the situation we had, so we have solved it the fairest way we could. I spent a heck of a lot of time on this yesterday, and I tried to find other solutions, but this was the best solution I could come up with. I know I've irritated some people, but unfortunately there was no solution that would keep everyone happy.

I signed up for team fun because I wasn't sure how much time I had this month, but it turns out I may end up reading a lot. I don't have a page count right now as I'm on my phone though. I'd just like to ask how many pages is maximum in team fun? :)
We don't have a maximum as such, but we'd suggest that if you're reading more than 8 books, we'd put you in a serious team ☺ If you'd prefer to stay in just for fun that's fine though ☺
I can see I'll read more then 8 too. I tought if we sign for fun we can read how many we wanted. This moth I signed for some practice to improve my reading speed and I already can see improvements, so that has the affect on my book number as well. However, if it's possible I would like to stay in the same group because we are not standing so well and if I can help us reach higher score I would like to do so.
I think it's hard to know before the month how much one will read :) I thought I'd be busy with my paper, but it's not that bad, so I'll probably read 15-20 books as usual. I'd rather go solo than serious though, because I didn't really enjoy it last month :/
That's fine, you can both stay in Just For Fun, that's not a problem. If you were planning to read 200 then that would be a different story ☺
If I do nothing but reading, I mean literally nothing, not even sleeping, it would still be impossible for me to read 200 books. Even 30 seems like an unreachable goal.
I can manage 30 or so in a good month. Maybe a few more in a VERY good month. But I usually average maybe 10? I've gone down quite a bit in the last few years. :(
