I haven't ever heard people talk about this one much, but it sounds cool! My library hold time is, er... 10 weeks 😅 so I might be late to this one, but I'm in!
I read this so long ago, I can’t remember how accurate the 80’s movie is with Swartzenegger. But I rewatched the movie (soon to leave Netflix) and I feel like the writer took a lot of liberties. The remake looks way better, but it might be a good time to reread the book.

The 80s movie was loosely based on the concept of the book, but jazzed up to match the 80s action movie aesthetic, while the new movie looks like it's based directly on the book.
Read in the past when it first came out in the Bachman books.
I read it a couple years ago. I remember really enjoying it, one of the fastest reads I’ve had. Think I finished it in 3 days. I recently watched the 1987 movie, basically the definition of 80s cheese lol 😂 can’t wait for the new movie to come out!

I read The Running Man recently, my review is available — and wow, it’s basically two hundred pages of sweat, TV static and testosterone. King really nailed the media cynicism part, but the macho energy is off the charts. Richards spends quarter of the book sneering at everyone and mentally rating women (see hostage motif) while “fighting the system.” The pacing still slaps, the countdown structure is brilliant, but the ending (view spoiler). Still, for a grim little time capsule about how spectacle eats empathy, it weirdly works.And yeah, as pulp as that 80s movie with Schwarzenegger was, I’ve got a soft spot for it — probably why I went easier on the book than I should have.
My favorite author hands down is Stephen King!!! The running man is a great read!!! I have read more books by King than any other author.. Even books that he co writes!!! Each new chapter brings a new surprise…. Hope everyone enjoys this book as much as I did……
