SOLVED. Children's book about a girl who learns to play tuba and meets a dog that only understands backwards words

I read this book sometime around 2014 - 2016, but it was probably published much earlier then that.

It was about a girl who joins the school band, but the only instrument left is the tuba. She's not thrilled about this, but agrees to learn it, and evantually grows to enjoy the tuba and becomes friends with the music teacher (I don't remember his name).

Part way through the story she meets a dog who only understands backwards words, so the girl needs to say 'emoc' instead of 'come' or 'doog yggod' instead of 'good doggy'. I don't think there was anything else unusual about the dog.

I don't remember the girls name, but it's possible it started with an L. I'm not sure though.

The cover was a girl in a hat and a green sweater playing the tuba.
