Help finding a book I read a while ago. Spoiler.

Hi everyone! I’m trying to remember the title of a novel I read a while ago. Here’s what I recall:It’s written by a British woman.The main character is a British man.The story begins with the breakup of his marriage.His mother left the family when he was around 12 years old.She had a perfume bottle shaped like the Eiffel Tower — this object seems to hold emotional significance.He believes his mother moved to New York.Later in life, he travels to New York with his wife, secretly hoping to run into his mother.He also goes on a holiday to Germany, a place he had visited as a child.In the end, he dies while in Germany, and nobody realizes he’s missing.The tone was reflective and emotional, possibly literary fiction. I’d love to read it again but can’t remember the title or author. Any help would be amazing!Thanks in advance!
