Starting... Time to read some of the cozy-adjacent plans...

This is half enjoyable and half driving me up the wall...

What drove you up the wall? I'm starting...

The opening sequence---whoa, I guess that was first chapter. Awfully short. Anyway, it had a good moment that got me empathizing--when the MC kneels down and aaah! overbalances and has to shuffle forward to keep from falling over... happens all the time, I relate.

Finished. I think I answered my own question just by reading.... I'm guessing it was all the (view spoiler)[self-doubt, wiffle-waffling, and general indecision that drove you up the wall? At least the character was consistent in her flaws, even if they were rather annoying. Kinda made me think of the relationship in NOS4A2, except I liked that one better--two people who love each other but (one half) believe they can't be together. This was the rom-com lite version.

I did like the mentor relationship between the MC and the ghost, and the MCs pregnancy didn't even bother me. The ending was predictable, but it was a cozy enjoyable ride. (hide spoiler)]

Yea... meant to come and comment on a different work break... had to get back to work when I read...

That kind of stuff drives me crazy, and is super common in cozy mysteries...

I think I'm more forgiving in historicals, where knowledge isn't as prevalent (also those characters tend to be ahead of their time, which is fun, thinking-wise)...

The series seems to be more about premise than characters... book 2 is a different MC, who goes on the run from SCYTHE to save brother from death...

I really want to like this but the whole mystery took a back seat to the whole story. I mean I like the character arc and everything but the whole part of the book took a back seat for most of the book. Still going to read the second book since I do like the idea of the grim reaper, kind of reminds me of Dead Like Me.

I did like part of the book, it was a nice choice for both characters and their journey. Kind of why I DNF it.
