I imagine the real book would have better illustration. I think I will go to the library this weekend and look.

I was reminded a bit of The Once and Future King - all of Merlin's lessons for Arthur, learning something from everything and everyone around us. White's book had a big impact on me when I read it in my youth, and I imagine The Wild Robot would have a similar impact on kids today.

Unknown things / people / animals are often feared, scary, monster. I like how the bears and the grumpy fish were made into friends - just needed to be heard, understood. And I loved the message about how it's ok to be different. The wildness didn't need to be tamed - just respect the occasional truce :)

I loved how they did call the robot a monster until they proved she was nothing like a monster.
