In honor of heading back to school, read a nonfiction book that is NOT a biography, autobiography or memoir.

10.2 Bookshops of Melbourne
To visit Hill of Content, Melbourne's oldest bookshop, read a book shelved at least 225 times as literary-fiction.

10.3 1925 Movies
To see The Phantom of the Opera, starring Lon Chaney, read a book set at least 75% in France.

10.4 Fall Birthdays
To celebrate Elmore Leonard's 100th birthday on October 11th, read a book by an author whose initials can be found in ELMORE LEONARD.

10.5 Leo Tolstoy
November 20 will be the 115th anniversary of the death of Leo Tolstoy. Fun fact: Tolstoy was a keen hunter when young but stopped hunting and became a vegetarian in later life. Read a book with MPG Food.

10.6 Ninetieth (Rosemary's task)
My lovely mother is 90 this year. Read a book with 9 and 0 in the year of first publication.

10.7 Be Curious (Karen Michele's task)
I think a lot of us read because we are curious about the world. For this task, read a book (that meets RwS requirements) that has been shelved at least 4 times as “curiosity”.
https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/... or whose title contains the word "curious", "curiosity", or "wonder". Plurals and possessives are acceptable - no other variations.

10.8 Are You a Bookshop or Library Person? (Valerie's task)
I've noticed (at my p-t job at the library) that there are A LOT of new books about bookshops or libraries. Read a book with either 'bookshop/bookstore' or 'library' in the title. Plurals and possessives are allowed; no other variations.

10.9 Cheese! (Marie's task)
As I'm French and therefore eat a lot of cheese: read a book where a character eats cheese or where a specific type of cheese is mentioned. Please either provide a quote or explain who eats the cheese, or which type of cheese is mentioned.

10.10 Group reads
Read one of the following books OR any book by the author of one of these books recommended by fellow RwS readers:
Anika - A Town with Half the Lights On by Page Getz
Apple - On the Calculation of Volume I by Solvej Balle
Joanna - Amy and Isabelle by Elizabeth Strout
Rosemary - The Wedding People by Alison Espach
Kathleen - The Light Eaters: How the Unseen World of Plant Intelligence Offers a New Understanding of Life on Earth by Zoë Schlanger
Nick - Let's Just Say It Wasn't Pretty by Diane Keaton
Connie - Emma by Jane Austen
Joanne - The Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread by Don Robertson
Mary - Stone Yard Devotional by Charlotte Wood
Deedee - Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie
Jayme - Dirty Thirty by Janet Evanovich
Claire - The Book of Katerina by Auguste Corteau

Rosemary | 4272 comments This Fall season we are celebrating a big birthday of our moderator emeritus, Elizabeth (Alaska).

20.1 Happy Birthday Elizabeth!
In honor of Elizabeth's 80th birthday, we're revisiting some of the tasks she created over her many seasons of reading. For this task (originally found in Winter 2018/2019), read any book with an average rating over 3.74 AND under 1001 ratings.

20.2 War Babies (Fall 2014)
Read a book by an author who was born in the years of either of the two world wars, 1914-1918 or 1939-1945.

20.3 Debut (Summer 2017)
Read the debut novel by an established author. An established author will have published at least three other book length titles (100+ pages). Non-novel forms may have been published before the debut novel.

20.4 Uncommon Letter (Fall 2017)
Read a book where a Q, X, or Z is the first or last letter of any word in the title (but not the subtitle) or the first or last letter of one of the author's names, hyphenated names included.

20.5 Elizabeth's Comfort Zone (Spring 2018)
Read any book published in the 19th Century (1801-1900) by an author born in France or the United Kingdom. (19th C UK = England, Wales, Scotland, all of Ireland).

20.6 Fall Equinox (Fall 2018)
Fall Equinox contains all 5 vowels. Read any book whose title contains all of the letters A-E-I-O-U. The book may have a subtitle, but all of the letters should be in the title.

20.7 500 Great Books By Women (Bucket's task)
Read a book from this list: https://www.listchallenges.com/500-gr...
There will be a searchable list in the Task Thread.

20.8 A Touch of Magic (Anika's task)
I've been reading a ton of books lately that have a strain of magic running through them and am not ready for that streak to end just yet. Read a book with either the MPG of Magical Realism OR a book about a witch/witchcraft.

20.9 Olivia Laing (Apple's task)
I am almost finished reading the works of Olivia Laing. To help me find similar work, read a book by an author on her literature map:
https://www.literature-map.com/olivia...

20.10 Fall Vacation (Joanna's task)
This fall, I'm traveling to Japan and South Korea. To help me get ready, read a book by an author born in Japan or South Korea or set more than 50% in Japan and/or South Korea.

30.1 Go for the Green
Let's turn some more countries green! For 30 points, read a book set at least 51% in any of the countries on the Group Project Spreadsheet that are not yet colored green.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
See the Task Thread for a list of countries. This is not a first-to-post task - no changes will be made to the spreadsheet until after the season is over.
This task is not required for a Mega finish.
