Where should Star Trek publishing go from now on?

I enjoyed the literary continuity and the prose-original series we got, especially Titan and Vanguard. I'm using the next couple of years to read a lot of the previously published novels that I have never gotten around to. There's about 800 novels out there, so I'm guessing most people reading this also have some gaps in what they have read in the Trek line.
They do a nice job putting different ebooks on sale almost every month. Just look up Star Trek ebook sales, and you should find the Simon & Schuster page with books for about $2.
For the future, my only hope is for cool stories, whatever they may be.

For me, I’d like to read about a crew completely unrelated to any of the TV shows, going off in a different direction in the galaxy than other series have explored. It doesn’t have be full-on “Voyager is a bajillion miles away” kind of thing, just a new heading.
The various maps I’ve seen show that the Milky Way is less than 1/3 accounted for, and whole sections of the Borg and Dominion areas are unexplored. Plenty of opportunities to visit strange new worlds and seek out new civilizations.
Like many others, I’ve created my own starship and populated it with a crew. I just need to get some artists to realize it for me. Then I can send it out where no one has gone before.

You might really like Peter David’s New Frontier series as it was basically a book original crew (with a couple exceptions) that were sent to a part of the galaxy with several new empires and species.
In all honesty I don’t know much about the details but that’s the series premise at least. Pretty popular but it’s definitely more action oriented

I did not know that. They’re tagged “The Next Generation” so I just assumed that was Picard et al.
Checking my ebooks… yep, looks like I own all those. Must’ve been a Humble Bundle or something. Thanks for the heads up!

I’m really late to the party but I’ve been reading through the Star Trek post-nemesis lit verse and I’m really bummed that we’re back to episodic novels.
I’m wondering what all the Trek fans here think about what they could do to reinvigorate Star Trek publishing now that the literary continuity is gone.
I’d love to see them do something like New Frontier where we could follow a new crew in a series of novels. I just can’t see what era they would do it in. TOS era is already pretty bloated at the moment with Discovery and Strange New Worlds having filled in a lot of the pre original series era. It would be awesome if we got something post Picard but then it’s probable that it will be contradicted if Paramount decides to do a show in that era. As much as I’m against the idea I wouldn’t be surprised if the 32nd century from Discovery is the new status quo, but a novel series in that era or covering the burn would flesh out a lot.
I think Paramount would be wise to do a publishing initiative of some kind to appeal to hard core Star Trek fans. With a lot of the new shows trying to cater to a much wider audience it would be nice if us old hats could get throne a literary bone.
Also with the 60th anniversary coming up it’s likely they’ll do something special even if it’s just a new trilogy a la Star Trek legacies.
Anyway those are my thoughts but I’d love to hear everyone else’s thoughts and recommendations. Also let me know if there are any Star Trek books coming out you are excited for!
