How to Disappear was a good one I read in middle school (so about 7-8ish years ago) that I remembered had made me cry at one point. Definitely some trigger warnings involved with it, the big one would be suicidal thoughts and actions.
Read any Kristin Hannah book. They all are sad.

Try this out is real life pain and drama with romance but it's based off of a woman's life very raw very true. A must read if looking for an emotional read. It's called From darkness into the light by David Itchue on kindle
The way I SOBBED reading the four winds by Kristin Hannah. I also have heard binding 13 and the other books in that series have torn people up.

I second Five feet apart. I suggest the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas. The last book tore my heart out and stomped all over it. My Roman Empire series.
