Kristine | 52 comments Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret? by Judy Blume Quick Guide Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. by College Guide World I loved this book. This was the late 1970’s, there weren’t books for Girls to read about Puberty or Growing Up. Her Books are Still Banned.

message 165: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 3 comments For me it was a book called THE BOOK OF LIVE DOLLS but I can't remember the author. I checked it out of the library so many times that they should have just given it to me. It concerned toys that came to life at night and their plight as they were played with. I remember one doll named Dinah, whose legs had been put on backwards and I remembered a garden where doll clothes grew on trees. Quite the tale for a fanciful girl like me.

Maxine (the_iron_maiden) | 15 comments I read all the time as a kid, zipping through big stacks of library books each week, but ran out that kind of time/energy sometime during high school.

After college, I decided to try reading for fun again, and the one that really got me back into it was the short story collection "Unnatural Creatures" (compiled by Neil Gaiman, but this ain't about him).

message 167: by East of Reality (new)

East of Reality (tamberleigh) | 23 comments Black Beauty. Because I was a kid I got hyperfocused on it, so my poor parents had to read it -- two chapters a day, bedtime and naptime -- over and over and over. I was able to read along as they narrated, and eventually had it memorized.

Shimmering.blue | 1 comments My first book, when I was 4, was "Kater Toto" (I'm from Germany), Die kleine Hexe, Der kleine Wassermann and there were also a lot of comics like Micky Maus.

message 172: by Squire (new)

Squire (srboone) | 21 comments The first novel I read was a Hardy Boys book in the 1st grade. I think it was Hunting for Hidden Gold. But the book that cemented my love of reading was The Sword of Shannara when I was eleven.

It's been mostly uphill from there. I've read a few stinkers in my time.
(I stay away from the current bestseller list. That helps.)

Alvia Abedin (alvia_abedin) | 1 comments Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bonte.

If you read it young, it reads one way: If you read it as an adult, it is an entirely different book! It is one of the few novels where the structure itself is actually revolutionary for the Victorian era AND is still relatable in the 21st century!

It definitely helped spearhead my love for reading which has evolved now into so many other genres.

message 180: by Bruna (new)

Bruna Galamba | 47 comments The book that got me into reading as a child was a science book about Space (can't really remember the name, but it is in my profile). I loved that book to death and I was able to understand even the most difficult themes. I loved books about fairytales and history/archaeology as well.

Then, my teens and early 20s were dedicated to fanfiction. We are talking about thousands and thousands of fanfictions across multiple fandoms, and I'm not really counting oneshots... I did start reading Harry Potter and a Song of Ice and Fire at this point, they were good, but just not enough.

My late teens and early 20s were also spent reading for college, but can't really say that it got me into reading.

A few years ago I decided to bring back my love to read. And I mean fairytales, fantasy, science fiction and even fiction. So 2023 was experimental, can't really say I was into it yet. In 2024 I started the year reading the Cruel Prince trilogy and that did it! I'm hooked, I rediscovered my love for reading, because I finaly felt the books I've always wanted to read were finally being published!

Ava (matching with the BAAAM fam) Keding | 36 comments please dont judge, but for me it was thea stilton when i was in 5k, and the only reason i was reading was to win the AR contest at my school. after that year, i won every contest and i still have the record or 1,400 points

❀ Tia ❀ (tiajoanne) | 13 comments I've always adored reading!

As a child I was always reading Jacqueline Wilson's books (the queen of girls' literature in the UK 🙌🏻), as well as Roald Dahl, and Michael Morpurgo.

In my teenage years I loved reading Harry Potter, and books by Jenny Han, Jennifer Niven, and John Green.

And since entering my 20s, I've loved reading books by Ana Huang, Sarah J Maas, Lauren Asher, Laurie Gilmore and Stephen King just to name a few of my fav authors!

Edie Graves 🖤 (haloyoustole) | 7 comments As a kid, around middle school age, I read all the major dystopian book series’s (the hunger games, divergent, the maze runner) and loved the selection series.

In high school, I read The Coldest Girl In Coldtown from Holly Black and it got me out of a huge reading slump. I devoured books until I graduated, and then college life became too busy and I lost the drive to read anything that wasn’t for my classes.

As an adult, the ACOTAR series respawned my love for reading, and it’s been downhill ever since 😂

message 196: by Emily (new)

Emily | 1 comments For me it was the Warriors by Erin Hunter books that got me really into reading! I had always been a reader but it wasn’t until that series that I knew what it was to really invested in a book and picture the world and characters and lose myself in it. I will always be grateful to those books!

Emily ☾⋆୨ৎ (emispaghetti) | 6 comments As a child I lowkey think it was The Boxcar Children (so nostalgic), but as an adult Twilight got me back into reading after a serious hiatus in high school and college!
