Glad you found Black Butterflies interesting - enjoyed is not the work for like that!

Margo | 11628 comments I finally got to the end of The White Hare. Another "meh" listen. I'm starting to wonder if it me and not the books that's "meh"! I had a couple of roughing days with covid but symptoms starting to abate today. I'm not sure which variant I had but it was minor compared to my original experience with delta!

Will start The Black Feathers later today.

Katrisa | 4460 comments Ok I added Pragya's and Lanelle's book. I was going to take the FRONT/BACK pair but realized that my front book was 2 pages too short. But I can still do BACK with Getting the Pretty Back: Friendship, Family, and Finding the Perfect Lipstick - another Brat Pack book :)
I'll see if I can find something to complete one of our pairs.

message 154: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Ok I will read All Quiet on the Western Front for FRONT

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Hi all. You are going wonderfully!

Week has been insane. 76% through my TOP book, that will be easily done. Only about 15 into my physical book though for BOTTOM. I will see how I go though. Hoping to get home early tomorrow due to working longer hours the past 4 days, and maybe a lazy Sat.

But may be worth thinking about a backup, or just counting my Top read as a single.

message 156: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Margo, ya Black Butterflies wasn't a fun read by any means but so well done. Scenes in that book will stick with me for sure.

Kristie | 19133 comments I'm about half way through Talking as Fast as I Can. I've seen the show, but I wasn't someone who watched the whole series. I feel like I would get more out of it if I was more of a fan, but I still think it's a pretty fun read.

There was a chapter that outlined the seasons of the Gilmore Girls show, so I feel like it was a bit of a spoiler if I decide to binge it now but I'm ok with that.

Kristie | 19133 comments I finished Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls. I thought it was good, but it was kind of like someone with ADHD telling you a long story. lol

I don't think I'll be able to finish another book, but I'll start Never Name the Dead and hope for the best. It all depends how much time I end up having tomorrow.

Lol! That's totally what that book is like!

Katrisa | 4460 comments Ok I read Cold Wind because I own it and I was out on the farm yesterday so I just picked something I already had.

To try to make a pair I can read The New New Rules: A Funny Look At How Everybody But Me Has Their Head Up Their Ass to complete the OLD/NEW pairing and I found an OPEN book too (Open House) since Beth said she only maybe will get to her OPEN book. And Off the Map can fill our OFF spot

message 161: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments I’m about halfway through my final book. I may make it after all! Fingers crossed!

message 162: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Go Kristie!

Kristie | 19133 comments We are expecting thunder storms this evening and my dog is scared so she'll want to sit with me. It gives me an excuse to sit and read more. I'm really glad I decided to try for one more even though I didn't think I'd make it. :)

message 164: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments I finished it today! I'm shocked. I thought if I finished it at all it would be cutting it close. Super happy about it.

message 165: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Ok I reported my books and updated the points in message #1. I found one more book to squeeze in! And it gave me some ideas for some summer cleaning that I really need to do.
I will be going to protests tomorrow morning/afternoon so I won't be able to update the points until I get back.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments I have finished my TOP book - Ayoade on Top.

It is exactly what it says on the blurb. Do not pick it up, like me, thinking that it was a funny blurb and the book would be about something completely different. It is a book about the 2003 Gwyneth Paltrow movie, View from the Top. And other things, but that is the premise of the book.

I am not going to finish my BOTTOM book however. I am sorry, just hasn't happened.

You guys have done amazingly though!

message 167: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Just reported my last 2 books, both 3 star reads.

Thanks Katrisa for your excellent organization and to the team for just being excellent!

Most of all thanks to Kristie for making the game fun and allowing my to topple 6 titles in 1 week!!!!

message 168: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments I've reported my last book, Old Lover's Ghost.

Katrisa, thank you so much for all your hard work at keeping us organized and motivated!

Team, we did good!

message 169: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments Stay safe, Katrisa! It's crazy out there lately. Thank you for keeping us all organized during the toppler. :)

message 170: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Thanks Kristie I will try! I have seen it get crazy on the news, but so far in Salt Lake things have been ok at protests, but I feel like I have to do my part to say that I don't think that what is happening is ok. I do have a lawyer friend though whose phone number I will write on my arm just in case.

I did one last update to our scores. Btw, am I scoring this correctly Kristie? You have to complete a pair a second time to get another bonus point, correct?
Thanks team for a fun week! You guys rock!
And extra thanks to you Kristie for bringing us the toppler!

message 171: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments We are headed to Baltimore for a show this evening and have to drive through DC to get there. We are going around, which will take forever, but I don't even want to attempt DC this afternoon. Even getting close is making me a little nervous. It should be fine, but you never know. You're smart to put their number on your arm even though it'll likely be ok where you are.

Scoring sounds right. I'll give everything a scan for both teams before I announce the winners.

message 172: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Ya I wouldn't go near DC today! Have fun in Baltimore!

message 173: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments Thanks!

message 174: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments I wasn't able to finish my ON book. As much as I love Susan Sontag, I think this book was not the right choice for a toppler. ;/

message 175: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Hopper | 2418 comments It was a fun Toppler. Thanks Karissa and Kristie!

message 176: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments Katrisa, it looks like you finalized the scoring. Just making sure everyone reported and it's good for me to review.

message 177: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Ya I updated it with everything that was reported by the end of the Toppler which I think is everything because everyone's pledged books got done except the ones that people reported they weren't going to finish

message 178: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments Perfect. That's what I thought, just wanted to confirm.

Katrisa, I just read that a man was killed in the Salt Lake City protests. I hope you weren't around that. Article was from a local NH news station: https://www.wmur.com/article/salt-lak...

message 179: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments I didn't go to the march which was later in the day because I had to help get ready for farmers market so thankfully I was not there for that but all my friends were (they were all safe though). It's so sad.

message 180: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments It really is. Seems like other than that it was a peaceful protest. That man may have saved many lives, but also must feel terrible about killing the bystander. Just heartbreaking.
