This task is related to the months of the Summer challenge – June, July and August .

This is a two-book task. Choose two different options and read on book for each option.
No children's books allowed.
Each book must be a minimum of 250 pages.
Required: State the options.

Option 1
June, July and August are the 6th, 7th and 8th months of the year
Read a book with a variant of the number 6,7, or 8 in the TITLE ONLY. (subtitles are excluded)
It may appear as words or numbers; whole numbers or ordinals so 6: 7: 8 Six, Seven or Eight ; Sixth, Seventh or Eighth and 6th; 7th; or 8th all work.
Numerals should be Arabic numerals, not Roman numerals (i.e. not VI, VII, or VIII)

Kristen (kristenia) | 1119 comments Would The Eights work for Option 1? I just wanted to be sure it works as a plural. Thanks!

Kathy KS | 2378 comments Would you, please make a ruling on this for Option 1:
[bookover:
The additional information here is that the list titles show both "Mickey7" and "Mickey 7". Also, according to GR Librarian Manual rules, the cover is supposed to be used when adding records. Several of the cover look like they have a space OR are two different fonts.

So, does this one (any edition) work for "7"?

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 3940 comments Is this the book you are asking about? Mickey 7

my problem is that on the kindle it definitely looks like a separate 7 the number seems to have been run into the title on most copies but as you say not on the bookcovers. However the top rated PB it looks like 17

Have you asked a librarian to modify the entry?
I am minded to allow it but I will have to ask a mod for their opinion.

Just as an aside I only ever use the bookcover on completions if the task has something to do with the cover e.g. colours or objects.

Give me a bit of time to get a response from the mods

Kathy KS | 2378 comments That's fine, it's a difficult call. I'm a retired professional librarian (former cataloger), as well as a GR Librarian. Here's my findings:

WorldCat (international catalog) has between 100-150 records for the books in this series. Most of the English version use Mickey7, but not all. Most of the non-English version use "Mickey 7". The records entered into WorldCat are supposed to use standard library protocols, which begins with using the TITLE PAGE to determine the actual title. So, it depends on the particular copy of the book whether is is one word or two.

GoodReadsLibrarian Manual begins the instructions for adding titles. It states: "The title should match the title shown on the cover of the book, if that information is available. [emphasis added] Obviously, this is different from standard library practice; although there are many records in GR derived from both rules. This means that the books with the cover showing "Mickey" and "7" on different lines would definitely be "Mickey 7", according to GR rules.

Confused yet?

Mickey 17 was the title of the movie based on the novel. It appears publishers have issued some new versions with that title.

So, no easy answer to my original question. I guess I'd go with whatever the record for the exact copy you read says goes(?).

Publishers don't care much about cataloging their titles, so often change things up on both the title page and/or the cover for the sake of optics. So we get a lot of variations, at times. I wanted to ask, not only because this a title on my TBR, but it's something that probably be ruled on.

I await the decision.

After discussion with the moderator we think it will have to go on the version you read.

IF on the version you read there is a space between MIckey and 7 in the title it works IF there is no space in the title then it won't work.

Sorry we have to go with how the title is written on the GR record dor the book you read
