because society has decided that every year you become one year older. if you feel internally 80, i suppose then you are just a mature person. im sure that younger people out there feel older than they are due to their maturity levels, but that does not change their age bc age is something that changes by counting how many years you have been alive

Logar | 2364 comments How the hell can someone feel Chinese. Do you feel white? How does race and ethnicity make you feel different? Last I checked everyone is still a human

quynh~vi! ᯓ★ (s.ia) | 606 comments syd, i’m asian. there’s been so many people online fetishizing and stereotyping my culture, specifically korean culture. it’s because they see an idealized version of korea in k-dramas and k-pop idols, because they want to belong to an ‘aesthetic’ culture. it is so incredibly harmful to compare gender non conforming people, people who science has literally said cannot choose that, to people who are literally racists.

Ok? As I said you can ‘think’ whatever but that doesn’t make you that thing. A boy can think he is a girl but he’s not actually a girl. Sure in his mind he is but biologically he’s not. Why would I call a boy she her when biologically he’s still a boy? It has nothing to do with respect, it has to do with science and biology. If a person is biologically a boy then I will use male pronouns when referring to him.

quynh~vi! ᯓ★ (s.ia) | 606 comments they’re biologically a male, that’s their SEX. gender and sex are very different. sex is your body, gender is your MIND. lemme find a source

Ok you guys are taking my words out of proportion. Never meant to say anything about stereotypes. I said a person can say they are Chinese but that doesn’t mean they are. I don’t know where you guys got stereotypes and racism from? Sorry didnt mean to offend anybody.

It literally has everything to do with respect. How did you manage to convince yourself it doesnt

@nimbu I already answered that a little bit ago. I can repost it if you don’t find it, just lemme know

quynh~vi! ᯓ★ (s.ia) | 606 comments a person can obviously think they’re chinese and they will never be chinese. chinese is literally an ethnicity 😭, it’s your blood. gender is not your blood or dna or biology, that’s sex as someone explained.

message 163: by Logar (new)

Logar | 2364 comments If I ran up to someone and deliberately started talking about how stupid their god (or gods) was just because science has said something that in my mind contradicts their beliefs does that make it okay?

@logan because I’m not trying to be disrespectful. Yes someone can identify as a different gender but pronouns don’t correlate with gender they correlate with sex. I’m just speaking from a scientific/biological standpoint. A male is referred to with male pronouns, a female is referred to with female pronouns. When I don’t use preferred pronouns I’m not trying to be disrespectful.

quynh~vi! ᯓ★ (s.ia) | 606 comments and ik you didn’t want to offend anyone, but please never try and compare being trans or being of a gender you weren’t born as to trying to change your race. rcta has infected every part of my life atm, and it’s literally horrible. it’s stereotyping my culture and it makes me feel so gross sometimes, my culture is not an aesthetic.

Why does it matter what they were born as, that determines their sex not their gender. Why cant you have a different gender from your sex?

That doesnt stop it from being disrespectful. And science has next to nothing to do with pronouns given that they are a social construct

message 170: by Sydney (new)

Sydney | 950 comments Mod
@logan if you went up to me and just started ridiculing me to my face, yes I would kinda be sad but it’s called free speech you can do whatever you want as long as it’s in a public space. And I’m not here ridiculing you. It’s common sense, male pronouns go with the male sex, female pronouns go with the female sex.

actually pronouns correlate with gender, not sex. i believe that doctors when talking about a patient respect and use that patients pronouns and gender even if its not their sex.

Like Logan said though, pronouns describe gender and gender isn't equivalent to sex.

message 175: by Logar (new)

I've heard that nonbinary fits under the trans umbrella since you're identifying differently than the sex you were born with, but I'm not sure.

Regardless, biological sex has nothing to do with gender. Your sex is just some physical characteristics you have (which can be changed through hormonal therapy/surgery). Gender is your IDENTITY; it's who you are. The two are very different.

Yes, being transgender refers to any individual who does not correlate with their sex they were assigned at birth, which includes non-binary and gender fluid people. And I agree; this debate has definitely gone off topic.

alright. tbh i dont have a source. the only thing that defines my beliefs around gender and pronouns is health class, advisory/counseling class, and my overall community and how people talk about gender. i know that my beliefs around gender might not be correct, but in every situation ive ever been in people ask me "whats your pronouns?". If pronouns were just sex they would look at me and be like "ok long hair feminine face shes got boobs must be a she/her." Pronouns relates to gender in every social situation ive been in and also in all the classes ive taken in school.

I’m going to have to disagree with part of that. Sex can not be changed (with our current technology, I’m sure that will change in a decade or two) as it reflects what chromosomes someone has. Intersex is a gray area and refers to anything that falls outside the biological norm with chromosomes (as well as physical features but I’m just referring to chromosomes.

ashh ³³ ᵈᵘ ᵈᵘ ᵈᵘ (adiexe) | 440 comments your sex cannot be changed, i agree w logan, your genitalia can, but your assigned sex is a physical and biological aspect that at this point in time cannot be changed
