Review: Alex and Poppy meet Freshman year at U of Chicago and find they are from neighboring towns in Ohio. They share a car ride home at the end of the year, realize they are opposites, but over the summer find they are friends. This results in a decision to spend a summer week together each year in a new location. The book is told from Poppy’s pov and alternates between the current year’s trip and the trips from previous years. This one is to clear the air from the last one which caused them to not speak for 2 years. For some reason Henry’s books don’t really grab me until about halfway through. I find the first half bloated. She just seems to be working too hard to set the right stage for the climax and finale.

Beach Read by Emily Henry
Rating: 3 stars
Review: It started off promising, but this book didn't catch me like her other books have. I don't know if that was because I didn't believe the fake enemies to lovers trope in this book. I feel like this book should have been more about the relationship with the mother and daughter or father and daughter. Maybe that would have felt more real to me. Overall, I think I was slightly disappointed. It felt like there were a lot of things just kind of thrown in this book and not really fleshed out.

Review: This is a reread for me, and to a certain extent, a bit of a comfort read. You have two members of royalty in an arranged marriage. Ildico is human whereas Brishen is not. I've always liked that the two main characters built a relationship based on something other than looks and lust like I see in a lot of romance stories. There is some political intrigue and Ildico adjusting to her new role. Overall, the book is a favorite of mine.

Review: I liked this, it had good twists. Did find it a bit repetitive at times. Although the storyline was twisty it slow down a bit for me. I loved the main characters sister and wished we saw more of her. I wasn’t a fan of main character as she was very whiny. I’m looking forward to more books by this author.

Review: McCullough pulled together a collection of some of his magazines articles for this book. Most are aspects on the lives of various not so well known historical figures. My favorites dealt with Harriet Beecher Stowe before and after Uncle Tom’s Cabin; Theodore Roosevelt’s time in the Badlands of North Dakota neighboring the arrogant Marquis de Mores; a treasure trove of moldering architectural blueprints and drawings of the Brooklyn Bridge saved by the persistence of a public servant; and a look at the iconic depiction of the Wild West drawn and sculpted by Frederic Remington. He ends with two essays describing Washing, DC and the history of the Senate. Interesting collection.

Review: In this second and final book in Showalter’s duology Belle Jamison is still learning how to control her four natural elements superpowers while training as a PSI (Paranormal Studies & Investigations) agent and planning her wedding to Rome Masters, another agent. But when Rome comes back from a case with selective memory loss things change. He has completely lost his memory of Belle, treating her as a stranger. The person who stole his memory wants to use it to get Belle to fall for him. Rome’s ex makes a play to get him back and a new group of villains try to capture Belle.

Great side characters and plenty of action. However, at times the dialogue gets so snarky that its difficult to get a sense of some character’s true feelings because of the way things bounce back and forth. It took a while to get comfortable with the train of the story.

This is the second in the Comfort Food cafe series but other than a little backstory to the setting and characters this reads perfectly well as a standalone. Becca the ultimate wild child and loner is on her way to spend Christmas with her sister and her family and friends, which is her worst nightmare. She hates Christmas and being surrounded by people. As the story unfurls we slowly find out why and the magic of the comfort food cafe slowly works its magic to allow Becca to heal and to love. A sweet Xmas story.

This is the first in the Gods of Rock series which tells the story of Tessa and Presley. They spend the night together before Presley is launched into a successful music career. When he turns up after a potential catastrophic public scandal they start to explore the feelings that were not quite hidden so deep. Unfortunately the media circus that follows Presley puts additional pressure on the couple. This was a good romance with lots of angst and gave a true reflection of what the media and the public want from their idols.

We start the novel with Jet meeting her father’s best friend, Dane at a family dinner. The problem is not only is he her boss but they are having a secret affair. The novel goes back to their first meeting where Dane is interviewing Bridget for a position at his family’s company. This was a typical insta love falling for the boss romance and was fairly predictable. Not a bad read

Review: I am really not sure how this has such a high rating on goodreads. I found the characters to be entirely unreliable and Daphne was WAY too trusting of all the differences in her husband pre and post-accident. I think the entire idea of (view spoiler) is gross when only one person is "in on it". Also, her getting pregnant just to keep his psycho family from killing her...weird. I do not have any desire to continue this series. This was a miss for me.
