DeeNeez | 394 comments Has anyone here played Roadtrip Challenge before?

Question…. On our spreadsheet tab “Rivendell” there are 8 lines
1. MPG Fantasy
2. Features a character who is 100+ years old
3. Blue cover
4. MC seeks help
5. MC attends a meeting
6. Character finds peace (your interpretation)
7. Injured character receives medicine/healing
8. Double consonant in title (e.g. The Immortals)

I guess these are our week 1 tasks.

DeeNeez | 394 comments Jessica, Trio, Do you want to do a Buddy Read with The Darkling Thrush? …or anyone who reads MM Romance can join in

(I’m using it in SH challenge for Spanish edition. It also qualifies for NATO and USA …possible 62pts)

It works here for Tasks 1 and 5 here for sure.

Welcome to the first week, adventurers! You begin your quest in RIVENDELL, one of the great elven cities. This city is protected by a magic river and ruled by the wise Elrond. As you drink and make merry with the elves, you encounter your first ALLY, a mortal man a long way from home named FARAMIR.

The cost to join with this ally is 150 pages. If you read the pages to accept Faramir's help you will earn a spin from the random wheel to win bonus points! There is no penalty if you choose not to read for this ally.

In the future, please make buddy-read thread requests here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

One of the moderators will create the thread and let you know when it's ready. All you have to do is let us know when you would like to start, who you are reading with, and we'll set it up.

If you don't have anyone to read with, you can also do a buddy read request to see if others want to read with you here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

If you have any questions, let one of us MODs know. :)

Congratulations adventurers! Through cunning acts of diplomacy, you have allied yourselves with FARAMIR.

Faramir's assistance has granted you 20 bonus points! These points will appear in your team's overall score next time points are updated.

I hope so. ;) I have been behind in everything all week, it seems. I have finished the book, I just need to write the review. :)

message 30: by Jessica (new)

Jessica S | 243 comments Jenn doesn't accept messages 😞 just finished The Darkling Thrush though so will get that reviewed for the buddy read bonus 😁

Stormie ~ Book Dragon ~ (stormiebookdragon) | 126 comments I am going to be reading The Women by Kristin Hannah for BOTM, and I think that counts for extra points, if it fits a task.

Congratulations adventurers! You have successfully navigated your way out of RIVENDELL and begun your journey to MOUNT DOOM. You follow the Misty Mountains south, traversing a great distance to arrive at MINAS TIRITH. The final shield between the forces of Sauron and the lands of men, this great city has both wisdom and challenges to offer you as you navigate its rocky politics and ancient streets.

As you travel beneath the watchful energy of the White Tree of Gondor, you encounter a welcome ALLY, the eldest son of the city's steward, a man named BOROMIR

The cost to join with this ally is 200 pages. If you win Boromir's help you will get a spin on the random wheel to determine bonus points! There is no penalty for failing to complete this ally.

Jenn (tellingmelies) | 3354 comments Hi guys, I am here. We had a pipe burst in our wall late last week so that's been taking a lot of my attention and I haven't really been online a lot. But I am reading and I have a few books to post. I'm going to take a look at the spreadsheet and see where they can go.

message 37: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (tellingmelies) | 3354 comments I just posted 2 books. My 2nd book didn't fit any of the tasks so I used it for the ally. I hope that's ok. Just let me know if I need to change anything :)

That sounds like a nightmare 😩. Hope it didn't cause too much water damage. Glad you're here!

That sounds good. I've asked Paige for clarification on if we can use a previous week's books for the following week's tasks. I think it should be fine and at least that's the bonus taken care of.

message 39: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (tellingmelies) | 3354 comments Yeah, just let me know! I would assume we can since we have a banked tab, but if anything has changed I can move stuff around or remove it :)

We currently have a giant part of our wall missing in my office/bookroom so it's been fun, but getting through it haha

message 40: by Jessica (new)

Jessica S | 243 comments This week's tasks are more difficult than last week's, for me at least. I do want to try and catch up to team Shire though. They are too far ahead! 😂

message 41: by Jessica (last edited Apr 07, 2025 09:11AM) (new)

Jessica S | 243 comments Saige responded. Good info for us newbies!

'You are welcome to use any book you read from April-June for any of the weeks. So if you read a book today and you don't use it until the final week of the challenge, that's ok!

The banked tab on the spreadsheet is not official - it's there for you and your team to use if you wish, but using it is not required. The only thing I look at "officially" is the review thread where you post books.

I hope that clears things up!'

message 46: by Trio (new)

Trio | 94 comments so for a book I read last week but want to use this week, I don't need to add it to the "banked books" tab, I just add it to the current week?

Trio | 94 comments one more question for you experienced guys, for page count, is it default edition or just the edition I read? Or should I pick the edition with the most pages? I see in the General Rules for the group something about using the one with the most reviews?

thanks :)

Default. The one that comes up first when you type the title. Unless that's an audio, in which case you use the first edition with page count listed.

Stormie ~ Book Dragon ~ (stormiebookdragon) | 126 comments I am still trying to figure out which of the 86 books I have from the library fits any of the tasks this week. I am reading one of the BOTM, but I also hope some of the borrowed books will fit.
