Kristi N | 139 comments Hello team one! I'm so glad this is a weeklong toppler. I'll do some gophering tomorrow with my owned-not-read list and report back. We should aim for books that fill more than one slot, right?

message 6: by Katrisa (last edited Feb 17, 2025 08:18PM) (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments I thought the single letter book might be hard so I found one of those. I can do Y for that one
and if no one else finds a two letter title I can do Y/N. I have already read that one, so if someone else finds a two letter title I won't be sad about it

message 7: by Fee (new)

Fee | 318 comments Hallo Team. I’m also very happy that we’re having a weeklong toppler. I hope I’ll find some time to gopher a bit after work today.

message 8: by Alexandra (last edited Feb 18, 2025 05:27AM) (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 663 comments Hi everyone, I am so looking forward to doing this toppler. It’s nice to meet you. I am Alex, 40something, living in Germany with my husband and four kids so reading time is a true luxury ;-).
Thank you, Heather, for creating this list.

Title words: #2
Year of publication: #4 (2014)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19203 comments Hi teamies!

Not the best planning week for me, but hoping I can squeeze some time in the next couple of days WFH-ing to plan. But to help in the meantime I can commit to two books, but depending on my week can do 3-4. Ideas so far:

Absolutely would like to read -
This Is How You Lose the Time War
1. n/a
2. 8 words
3. 2019 - 9
4. 26 - n/a
5. If Goodreads is correct, which to be noted, it is not usually for books published outside the bubble of NA - 16 July 2019 - 6
6. 2July - 7
7. 201pp - 1

Others -
The 101 Dalmatians. I have my Mum's copy from when she was a kid in the 1950s, as my first dog was a dalmatian.
1. 1 in series apparently, who knew!
2. 5 words. My edition is the words written out.
3. 1956 - 6
4. 26 - n/a
5. 1 January 1956 - Too neat. But 1
6. January - 1
7. 204 pp - 4

The Martian (as long as no one else in my library logs it out in the next few days - *glares at Canberra*)
1. n/a
2. 2 words
3. 2011 - 1
4. 10 - not sure how that counts...
5. 27 September 2011 - 7
6. September - 9
7. 10 hours 60 minutes

Grave Ransom This one is a bit long, but if I read only two books... will look for other options...
1. 5 in series
2. 2 words
3. 2017 - 7
4. 11 - n/a
5. 4 July 2017 - 4
6. July - 7
7. 371 pp - 1

Heather | 202 comments So nice to have you all in the group! These are some great and flexible book choices, regarding all of the places they can fit in for the challenge. I'm going to go back and do the same type of reporting on my TBR list.

Let me know as you finish each book up next week, and I will do my best to slot it into the Finished list!! ✅
Are we feeling competitive?🤔
Let's have some fun!!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19203 comments I can probably do the spreadsheet if people don't mind it not being updated in real time for you all, but in Australian time.

I have a pretty good toppler spreadsheet that has formulas and stuff all there so I don't have to reinvent the wheel.

But to be clear there will be hours you guys are awake and reading when I am sleeping, so there are pros and cons :)

message 15: by Heather (new)

Heather | 202 comments That sounds good to me, Rusalka. I'm happy to add you to the message 2 as an editor if that is possible, update during the day US time, or delete it all together if it makes things confusing. Just let me know what would be the most helpful. :)

message 16: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19203 comments All good! You can't add me as an editor of the message, but that's okay. Let's plan here at the moment and if you can massage the message to work out where we are.

I'll prob need another 24+ hours or even until my Sat to do the spreadsheet anyways. So I'll then transpose your message into that.

message 17: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Feb 19, 2025 06:51AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19203 comments So I nominate Heather for team captain as she has already been motivating us, keeping us on track, and being our number 1 cheerleader (is that a thing?, it's a thing now)

Team name is an important thing though too. What we got?

My 2am thought as I fall into bed is "ONE List to Rule Them All". But want your ideas too! Will check in in 8 hours or so.

message 18: by Alexandra (last edited Feb 19, 2025 11:22AM) (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 663 comments ONE list to rule them all sounds very good to me, Rusalka!

I’m definitely not creative when it comes to creative names and was thinking of musketeers and „One for all, all for one“ but I guess that has been used in previous topples once or twice.

Or something like Formula One - Reading Fast and Furious

message 19: by Alexandra (last edited Feb 19, 2025 11:19AM) (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 663 comments Regarding the spreadsheet, I started already a list for the category „number of title words“ - oldfashioned on a sheet of paper. Maybe it’s still useful, I’ll write it down here - please check if I used the right book link:

Number of title words:
#1 Heather Solito, Kristi James, Alexandra Bride
#2 Heather Summer Romance, Rusalka The Martian Grave Ransom, Kristi The Favorites, Alexandra The Truth Factory
#3 Katrisa Blood on Snow Aged for Murder, Kristi Remarkably Bright Creatures The Reading List
#4 Alexandra The Little Paris Bookshop
#5 Fee We Used to Live Here The Curse of Braeburn Castle, Katrisa The Murder of King Tut Say Nice Things About Detroit, Rusalka One Hundred and One Dalmatians, Alexandra The Secret Life of Bees
#6
#7
#8 Rusalka This Is How You Lose the Time War
#9
#10

message 21: by Fee (new)

Fee | 318 comments I agree, it’s a great group name.

message 22: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19203 comments Alright, spreadsheet is ready. Here it is: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Putting this together, I have missed an important step.

There is no bonus for completing a grouping? Eg the Series from 1-10? I'm not sure if I am reading everything correctly, so after a sanity check.

message 23: by Kristi (new)

Kristi N | 139 comments This is so helpful, thank you! I'm definitely going to tackle some of those that are the only option for a slot first.

Rusalka wrote: "Alright, spreadsheet is ready. Here it is: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

message 24: by Heather (new)

Heather | 202 comments I don't see anything about a bonus Rusalka,
but the spreadsheet is 🔥
Thank you!
Do you think we should do a separate reporting thread or just use this one and we can fill in the blanks on Message 2 as we go?

message 25: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19203 comments Kristie usually likes a separate thread so she can keep track and not have to sift through our chatting. She can also see easily then with our reporting posts who has completed a book when it comes to badges.

message 26: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19203 comments Oh, I just got the tricky bit. My brain is really switching off at the moment when I am not at work to protect itself.

We can only complete the task once per toppler. So once that task is done, it's done.
Just for my future reference :)

I think Kristi has the best idea, we aim for those slots that only one book fits for, and we can move things around until the Toppler ends. There are 70 tasks and we have mentioned 25 books, so we should be fine!

message 27: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 663 comments The spreadsheet is perfect, thank you so much Rusalka!

I understood it the way that the team only gets 5 points if one task is completed (e.g. series 1-10). But I’m not sure if I got that right…

message 28: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 663 comments I can commit to another book for #4 title words: The Little Paris Bookshop

message 29: by Kristi (new)

Kristi N | 139 comments 30 minutes until go-time! Happy reading, friends.

message 30: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments I will be starting with Y because that's my longest book. Good luck team!

message 31: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Thanks for making that spreadsheet Rus! I can take #4 in series with People of Darkness

message 32: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments I can also do Running with the Kenyans: Passion, Adventure, and the Secrets of the Fastest People on Earth it will work for 4 title words or published in 2010.

message 33: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 663 comments Happy reading, everyone!

message 34: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments I finished Y and made us a reporting thread. It turned out to be a pretty good read which is always nice when you are just choosing a book to fit a task like I did for this one :)
My next read is Say Nice Things About Detroit

message 35: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Nice things about detroit was an ok book but not great. but it was for my yearly challenge too so I got to cross off a book from there too!

message 36: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Feb 22, 2025 07:13PM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19203 comments Smashing it, Katrisa!

I've hit two speed bumps with my toppler start.

One, I woke up with a stonking migraine so read a few pages but need my head to settle down a bit before I make proper progress.

Two, someone borrowed The Martian from the library. Pretty much from the due date, on the day I said I would read it. In a city of 500 000 people, what are the chances that some one with a library card wanted to listen to the exact same, older, audiobook in the same week as me. Back to the drawing board for an audiobook then... /sigh

Oh man! I feel so bad for migraine sufferers! My hubs gets them and he is a trooper and works through all kinds of pain (he's a farmer) but he gets taken out on the regular by migraines. I don't get them, but I know they must be awful because I see how debilitating they are.

message 38: by Alexandra (last edited Feb 23, 2025 03:07AM) (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 663 comments Oh wow, Katrisa, whenever I check in here, you‘ve finished another book. It’s amazing!

I’m rather having a slow start - the plan was to send my family away this morning to some playground or whatever but after just one hour they were already back again. 🙄

Rusalka, I am sorry to hear about your migraine. I hope it will be over very soon again!

message 39: by Heather (new)

Heather | 202 comments Oh, Rusalka, as someone who previously suffered migraines for years, I hope you feel better soon!

I'm 50% finished with my first book, The Pumpkin Spice Café! Hope to finish today and start Solito!

Wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday!

message 40: by Katrisa (last edited Feb 23, 2025 03:35PM) (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments People of Darkness was pretty good. I started the series because we watched the Netflix show Dark Winds and this book is part off what they cover in the show. It took me a couple books to get into the series, but I am really liking it now.
Next up is a cozy mystery - Aged for Murder

Brain is back on board some what. Enough that I am at work. Not enough to remember my password to the spreadsheet - which I also thought I set up so we could all edit. I will update our scoring when I get home in a couple of hours, after I read my own book for a bit :D

Fee | 318 comments I had a good reading weekend. I started both my books and I’m enjoying them. One is a horror, so I can only read it at day when the sun is out. Otherwise I would be too scared. But the other one is much lighter and good for the evenings. Hope you all are enjoying your books.
