Nora | 1 comments I never read this book, but it was described to me briefly. This was one of the interesting parts of the book because it took up a few pages and it’s this boy who’s noticing this fly sitting on a train window (?) and is worried it will meet its death by the person sitting behind it. I don’t think it’s that old of a book, there was a video on the author talking about it, quoting the phrase “to be cared about is to be noticed,” which was the significance behind the whole scene. Similar to “cows” by Lydia davis, the message being how perceiving other life-forms through a human lens makes it relatable/expresses empathy through the observer, yet also acknowledging the fact that if they weren’t noticed, they would still continue to do their own things.
