Huh. That is weird. It shouldn't be in the shelf for another two weeks. But I can't make head or tails of GRs folder system anyway, so I'm cool.

Started today! Through Chapter 3--(view spoiler)[I feel like we're seeing the start of Trent's previous evil deeds being completely ignored in favor of him being a mysterious elf. Grr. I want him to pay! Or at least apologize. Beg. Grovel.

Also Poor Jax having to deal with the first of his kids leaving the nest... He's still my favorite character, along with Ivy... I just love that Jax is a father and also a good friend... (hide spoiler)]

Yeah, I'd gotten that from your other spoilers... rather looking forward to that, but not the aftermath... seriously, (view spoiler)[ALL potential love interests are complete assholes!! Are there no decent men in this world? Jenx is like the only rather decent guy so far. (hide spoiler)]

Finished and I enjoyed the latter half of the book more than the first. I am still getting serious Stephanie Plum vibes--though I have to say, Morelli v. Ranger, though both have their down-sides, at least are both decent human beings. I imagine this will be a continuous complaint--that there are no decent men in this series. At least Rachel (many times) recognizes that she's drawn to the "bad boys"--but I really wish she weren't! I don't see anything appealing about bad men.

This book felt like a long ramble with some good action sequences... I'm still not entirely sure what the main plot was? Felt kinda like a series of unfortunate events. (view spoiler)[I'm really glad that the main aspect of the Familiar bonds are dealt with, even if Rachel still has unfinished business with the demon Asshole. I don't remember what his name is, except it starts with "A" so I'm going to call him that.

Definitely seems like the author's trying to redeem Trent. But like Rachel (for now) I'm not buying his excuses for running drugs. Nope. NOT sorry. His fiancee's an asshole too though--and that dinner scene was pretty satisfying.

And will people PLEASE stop trying to do things to Rachel "for her own good" when she says no thank you? Even things like throw clothing at her. Though I was glad that she actually got to choose her clothes for the ill-fated boat trip. Actually, I think it was about this point that I started being able to enjoy the story instead of hate-read it, lol. (hide spoiler)]

I got chapters 1 and 2 in last night and am starting chapter 3 now.

This familiar ordeal makes me uncomfortable, and I need to know how Rachel copes with it all.

I have this down as a reread, but I don't remember any details. And I don't know if the things I do remember happen in this book or the next:

1. At some point, Jenks learns that Rachel knows about Trent; they get into a big fight, and Jenks either leaves or stops talking to her for a while.

2. Kisten dies.

3. Nick either dies, Big Al gets his soul, or something else that is not good happens to him (and is well-deserved).

4. Rachel feels shame over the state of her aura.

5. Trent either dips into the Everafter or sees Rachel dip into the Everafter. (This memory is vague and should be taken with a grain of salt.) (hide spoiler)]

The Demons are Algaliarept (aka Big Al) and Newt. I'm curious where that whole storyline is going.


Rachel can't seem to get a break! But at least her circle is growing.

~When it comes to the issue with Jenks, both of them share some blame, and I hope they can communicate that to each other. They need to sort things out quickly.

~Ivy must overcome her jealousy over Rachel's other friendships and relationships.

~Kristen better not hurt her; I honestly can't remember if he does.

~ I fully support saying good riddance to Nick and want to know if Rachel will find closure. (hide spoiler)]

Question: If Witches and Elves can conceive with Humans, can other Inderlander species do the same?
If I remember correctly, Witches and Vampires can't. I assume Vampires and Werewolves can't. So, does that mean that Humans are the only compatible beings for interspecies couplings?

I haven't been following all your talk, but I popped in, and I assume the fertility is because of the worldbuilding that takes forever to be revealed in this series...

(view spoiler)[Witches are demon-blooded, like latent demons... demon ancestor/etc... and Elves were basically bred by Demons to be their familiars, before they rebelled and gained freedom, and eventually banished the demons to the demon realm... and THAT, and/or a curse from a demon, are why the Elves are having fertility issues and dying out... and demons are having fertility issues because they killed all their women, leaving only Newt and later Rachel to fix the situation... and that's not a very likely thing to happen... (hide spoiler)]

Spoilers galore in there, from what I remembered from my first readthrough, and spinning around the wiki months ago... more on an elf/witch/demon meta perspective than any specific plotline...

Just read the short about Rachel trying to summon her father's spirit and instead got a different dead witch's ghost. He was nice 🙂. A cute short about young Rachel and her brother.

Through Ch. 5... (view spoiler)[ So, this is what happened with the Elf princess Al abducted a thousand years ago... I feel for her! His throw away comment about how she started putting out without too much fuss after the first 100 years to his buddies, really upset me... I don't know how long if any time would help her heal, but I am glad she will be staying with the old witch Kinsley...

That goodbye scene between Rachel and Nick was really uncomfortable...

Jenx buying that vampire doll for Ivy was very sweet! Also, his getting all sad dad over his little girl leaving the nest, was so touching! He is so adorable! (hide spoiler)]
