PattyMacDotComma | 272 comments Peter Carey is an interesting, award-winning (lots of awards) Aussie author who lives in New York but writes about his homeland. I'm a fan.

I have wanted to read Oscar and Lucinda for years because it sounded great - historical fiction, a pair of odd-bods, and a wild plot. Plus it won the 1988 Booker Prize and the 1989 Miles Franklin (Australia's most prestigious literary award), and I'm trying to read some awarded books. I'm happy I've done so, though this isn't my favourite Carey.

PattyMacDotComma | 272 comments On the other hand, I read A River Runs Through It and Other Stories by Norman Maclean and completely understand why it is often referred to as an American classic despite not winning a bunch of awards. Just stunning, and the lengthy foreword by Annie Proulx for the 25th anniversary edition is excellent.

PamG (lynguy1) | 735 comments Here is my 4.46 rounded to 4 stars review of Blind Date with a Werewolf by Patricia Briggs:

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Urban fantasy
Alpha & Omega-verse
Features deadly and reclusive werewolf
Gifted 5 blind dates by some anonymous and concerned friends.
Good vs. Evil
Some humor
Great characterization
Compelling storyline
Plenty of action and violence
My least favorite was date two which is written as the aftermath and cleanup of the date rather than the action date.
Five stories (2 newly published) and an Epilogue combined into a novelization.
