I'm not a mod or a captain, but I have done uno primarily from my phone several times. It can sometimes be a little tricky to put info in the tracking spreadsheet from your phone, but if you could log in to a computer once a week or maybe include a note on the registration form that entering into directly to a ss might be difficult for you...I feel like it would probably work(?). I'll let someone more official weigh in though.

Melindam | 4427 comments Hi Lindsay,

If you are using the GR website on your phone through a browser (and can log in to a laptop once a week as Denise suggests) then the challenge would be doable, but if it's through the App only then we don't recommend it.

as it's not only about sheet updates, but communicating with your team regularly in a dedicated thread, getting notifications and findig the right book editions.

Melanie (mvalente89) | 296 comments 📕 Name: Melanie

📕 Team Challenge experience: I've done a lot of challenges since my first one in 2018 (Wheelathon 3 in NBRC). I feel like at this point more of my reading is done in a challenge than not.

📕 Favorite genres: Romance (suspense, historical, contemporary, & paranormal mostly) as well as mystery thrillers with the occasional sci-fi. I don't read high/epic fantasy or christian fiction but I'm up for trying most other genres.

I do all my GR challenges almost exclusively from my phone and don’t have problems but I don’t use the app for many things. I use my internet browser and make sure GR shows me the desktop version and it’s pretty easy. I also have the Google sheets app so that is where I do spreadsheet things. I do normally try to check in on a computer once a week or so in case anything is too difficult. But if you can do the main things like posting in the thread and viewing and adding to the spreadsheet from your phone, normally teammates can help with tricky things, I have gotten lots of tips over the years 😃

message 66: by Frida (new)

Frida (butthenyouread) | 329 comments Hi all! I can’t wait for another year of uno. Uno being a gateway challenge to other reading games seems to be the trend here and I’m definitely a part of that demographic
I was thinking the other day that this must be my second or third uno, but alas, turns out it’s actually my 5th. A little insane how quickly time passes if you ask me
I have no genre preferences. My uno books tend to lean more towards romance and mystery just because I read them faster than I do other genres, but outside of uno I like reading a bit of everything. It’s always writing over everything for me, so as long as it’s a well written book nothing else really matters, I could read a book about different drying stages of paint and still enjoy it!

Really looking forward to another year of uno with everyone! Any hints on the theme this year? 👀

📕 Favorite genres: Hmmm, not sure I have one yet. Although I love reading, my schedule has made it VERY hard for me to read as often as I would like. BUT this year, I'm changing that!
📕 Books from 2024 you'd recommend or books you can't wait to read in 2025: I didn't get to read any books last year, sadly. I also don't have any to recommend. :-( I have been reading the previous comments and made a shelf for 2025 recs based off of your posts that I'm excited to dive in to! Happy reading everyone!!! :-)

message 78: by UNO Pixie, Our UNO Helper (last edited Jan 07, 2025 05:54AM) (new)

UNO Pixie | 1839 comments We are playing a game of common sense when it comes to cover colours :)

In theory yes, books must be over 50% to count for a colour.

If you have a book you think is a certain colour, post to your team thread or ask your captain/co-captain. If your team/Cap/Co-cap agrees you are good to go. If your team or captains aren’t sure they may take it to the Captains Group, where the result is binding.

BUT ...You are NOT REQUIRED to use tineye. It is linked here as it is usually the best place to check if you are unsure.

https://labs.tineye.com/color/

If in doubt, or you don't receive a majority answer, then don't use the book :)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Hello everyone! Sorry I am a bit late with my into ☺

📕 Karen
📕 I started joining team challenges in 2012 when I had a newborn and lots of time sitting and feeding. I had no idea this whole world existed before then. lol. Now every year is split into which reading challenge cycle I am in, and then other books just have to go into the gaps ;)
📕 I started UNO 11 years ago (time flys) as a relaxed social challenge. I still love the randomness and ease of the challenge compared to some of the others I have joined / help create
📕 I read everything but horror and not a lot of Romance. I was surprised to notice in my last GR yearly update that the majority of my books are Fantasy or Mystery/Thriller. So I guess they are my favourites. haha
📕 I'm currently reading the Way of Kings series so pretty keen for Sanderson to finish those so I don't have to wait for them ;) I am a huge fan of TJR so really keen on Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid being released this year.

📕 Team Challenge experience: I've done plenty of rounds of wheel and TT in the past few years!
📕 Have you joined UNO before? Nope, this is my first time! After years of hearing about it and observing all the fun from a distance, I've finally convinced myself I can handle another team challenge...
📕 Favourite genres: Anything but horror/thriller/mystery/crim or cozies, but I'm currently on a mission to actually love more of the books I'm reading so I'll focus on fantasy and litfic/classics for a bit
📕 Books from 2024 you'd recommend or books you can't wait to read in 2025: Chain-Gang All-Stars was one of my favorite books of 2024, as was ‎22 Bahnen and the first two Stormlight Archive books - really looking forward to continuing that series this year!

Melissa Watson | 7 comments I am Melissa. I am new to the UNO challenge. I have done other group challenges in other groups. My favorite genres seem to be historical fiction, magical realism, romance and psychological suspense. I have found joining challenges gets me out of my comfort zone and finding some real gems. My TBR list is constantly growing, I'm looking forward to so many books and still need to get to a bunch.

This is my first team challenge, and I'm happy I get to start UNO as my first Goodreads group challenge. I'm looking forward to starting this with you all!🤗 I will read anything, but some of my favorite genres are Fantasy, Romance, and Mystery. My top read from last year was the Once upon a broken heart series! I'm excited for Tahereh Mafi's new series, since i loved the Shatter me series
