Pre-1930 Children's short story collection. One story maybe named "the helping hand."

I am looking for a book, probably published before 1930. A collection of stories for children. One of the stories is about a boy who dreams that he has a huge, strong " helping hand" which he uses to help his family. It was one of 2 books my mother had as a child (born in 1936) along with "the counterpane fairy". Unlike the counterpane fairy I dont remember it having a central character telling the story.
