Carolyn | 9892 comments The Café with No Name by Robert Seethaler The Café with No Name by Robert Seethaler is a literary novel, translated from German, about a man who dreams of re-opening a run down cafe in Vienna during the 1960s post WW2 redevelopment of the city. it's a gentle novel about ordinary people's lives centred around the café.

Carolyn | 9892 comments Best, First and Last by Amy T. Matthews Best, First and Last by AA Amy T. Matthews, a family drama (with a touch of romance) about three generations of women from one family travelling to Machu Picchu is not the type of book I normally read but I mostly enjoyed it.

Rosh ~catching up slowly~ (roshreviews) | 741 comments Two wonderful graphic novels, though each is quite different from the other.

1. Happy Endings by Lucie Bryon
Happy Endings by Lucie Bryon
A compilation of three witty "happy endings." Enjoyed this a lot!

2. God with Us: Bible Stories on the Road to Emmaus by Matt Mikalatos
God with Us Bible Stories on the Road to Emmaus by Matt Mikalatos
Uses the biblical story of the journey to Emmaus to present some interesting correlations between the Old and New Testaments. A bit tricky for the target age group of middle-graders, but could work for older readers.

Carolyn | 9892 comments Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy Wild Dark Shore by AA Charlotte McConaghy is destined to be one of my favourite books this year. Set on a ruggedly beautiful isolated island midway between Tasmania and Antarctica, it is a gripping tale of the family who have been its caretakers for the last eight years, but are now preparing to leave as climate change threatens to engulf it. A mystery woman washes up on the shore has come looking for answers to secrets that they are hiding from her.

The One Before The One by Emma Cooper
A timeslip romance-mystery that sounded better in the blurb.

PattyMacDotComma | 3317 comments Kate Atkinson is a favourite author and I love her Jackson Brodie series. In the latest, Death at the Sign of the Rook, I was surprised the focus was mainly on the strange, gathered assemblage, with much less on Jackson and Reggie (yes, she's back!) whom I really wanted to read about.

Black Woods, Blue Sky by Eowyn Ivey
Loved this Alaskan literary fiction. Don't read it as a 'Beauty & the Beast' retelling though some blurbs have tagged it as such.

Carolyn | 9892 comments Platform Seven by Louise Doughty Platform Seven by Louise Doughty is a different type of mystery, narrated in part by a ghost and by a woman being slowly subjected to gaslighting by her controlling partner.
